  • Nice Inexpensive Uke

As reviewed by Grace Eck on 4/9/2014

Ukulele snobs insist you pay +$100 for your starter uke. It?s not fair to compare a Kohala with a Kamaka. Here is a nice inexpensive soprano. After playing awhile and you decide you want a better one, by all means go and shell out the big bucks. But this one is OK for the novice - why pay a lot just to try out the uke? I?m fine with my great-sounding Kine-O. I got it for $30 on sale here at GC. Yes, nylon strings take some time to stretch out, so it will be going out of tune lot for the first week. The Kohala catalog say the Kine-O has GHS strings which are decent. Good metal geared tuners. The body is Eastern Mahogany (Nato), probably laminate. It?s painted a wood-brown color - a little sloppy in some places tho. The frets are metal and the fretboard is wood. The action was a bit high initially, so I pried the plastic saddle out of the nice-looking wooden bridge and filed the bottom of the saddle down a bit. Sweet Hawaiian sound you will enjoy.

  • Pretty Good!

As reviewed by Dylan on 6/8/2014

I wanted a Ukulele because I have Poly friends and wanted to play with them. I got this Ukulele on sale for $30 and I have been very happy with it. Yes, it does get out of tune but you have to work in the strings for it to stay in tune. I have just put on some Aquila strings and it does sound better and stay in tune better. I have learned a lot and now apart of this society of Ukulele players. I don't have any real complaints except for the Ukulele does look cheap when closely inspected, but I am sure as I grow as a player I will buy a nicer Ukulele. I recommend this ukulele because if it gets harmed you didn't spend too much and its sounds great!

  • EHHHH :/

As reviewed by Hayley Barger on 1/2/2012

I got this for Christmas as a gift from my parents I honestly like it but at the same time get annoyed sometimes with it. when i first got it, it got it came out of tune very easily but now it's doing better. GREAT for a beginner uke. Also as i put it away at night and get up the next day it's outta tune again but worse than it gets while playing it (doesn't get outta tune as often after a while when your playing i think all it needs is a little break in). Other than that no complaints just buy new strings for the uke because the set of 4 aren't that great but still produce a nice sound. Hope this helps
