The Deco-Block fingerboard inlays on the Kentucky KM-805 make a bold statement. The KM-805 punctuates that statement with power that will cut through in any band or festival situation. Complete sound transmission though the instrument is assured by a split-lip dovetail neck/body joint. You'll feel the difference as the mandolin jumps to life against your chest with every chop. Twenty-two precisely positioned German silver frets assure accurate intonation in every register and the abbreviated fingerboard extension allows you to attack the strings in the upper sweet spot without digging the pick into the fretboard.

Accurate top and back carving brings out the maximum tonal capabilities of the select spruce and maple tone wood that is used in the construction of these remarkable instruments. Pick a Kentucky!

Comments about Kentucky KM-805 Artist F-model Mandolin:

I got this mandolin to serve as a decent "beater" and it seems to be adequate for that role. A few things to note about this mandolin: The neck is a bit more substantial than most mandolins that I have used (this might be a good thing if you don't mind a larger neck) so it ends up being a bit more head-heavy than other mandolins. There's not much in the way of figuring on the woods that compose my mandolin (not a big deal for a beater mandolin, but maybe a disappointment if you want this as a "nicer" mandolin). Some of the appointments on it are not all that great considering the price (e.g. tuners, bridge, etc.) There is no pickguard in case you didn't notice from the photos (or didn't trust the photos). Of course it comes with garbage strings, but that's to be expected. The frets seem to be positioned okay and leveled okay though their surfaces are a teeny bit rough. All in all, depending on what your goals for this mandolin are it is a moderately good mandolin. If you are just going to get this as a beginner mandolin, or just as a novelty, I probably wouldn't recommend it due to the price. There are some substantially cheaper mandolins that you would probably be just as happy with for that purpose. If you are looking to get this mandolin as a REALLY nice mandolin like you are going to be an ultra serious player and only planning on having one mandolin I would pass on it as well. It's definitely not what I would consider a NICE mandolin. Mainly the role I would recommend this mandolin for is as an extra instrument. Like you need a backup mandolin and don't want another really expensive one, or you want one you can use a lot but don't want to feel like you have to guard it with your life.

    Sound - 7.5/10
    Playability - 7.5/10
    Fit and finish - 7/10
    Appearance - 7/10
Durability - Haven't had long. Can't say really.

I probably would give it a higher star-rating except for the price. For an instrument from China at this price range I am not exceedingly impressed.

Comments about Kentucky KM-805 Artist F-model Mandolin:

this mando doesn't have the crazy elaborate inlay work of the 850, but inlays don't make anything sound better...and this mandolin sounds GOOD. easily better than anything in it's own price range... and the radiused fretboard makes playing for several hours much less uncomfortable... (why can't the other guys figure this out?!) and i really think that i can pick better and quicker on this than any flat fingerboard. just my opinion...

    Great Mandolin, poor hardware

    By Todd McKernan

Comments about Kentucky KM-805 Artist F-model Mandolin:

So this is one fine crafted instrument. Its amazing that these are made in China, my hats off to whoever built this. Gorgeous, plays great. But I expected better hardware on a Mandolin in this price point. The tuners are really cheap. So just go ahead and order some grovers or waverly?s when you order this mandolin. You might want to order an extra bridge just in case. Mine came cracked, although that I put more on UPS than Kentucky. I would say this plays as well as most Eastman?s. Just wish they put better hardware on.
