Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller:

Great little keyboard, very expressive and versatile, and it has CV/Gate! Using it now to create sounds with my soft instruments and to create MIDI tracks in my DAW. It will be part of my live rig which includes a Push2 and Vortex controllers; it fits well right in front of the Push2 without getting in the way (it's not as wide or as tall as the Push2). I also have a KMI SoftStep2, KMI products deliver and they are worth a look

      Endless Possibilities

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller:

I love using KMI products. There's a bit of a learning curve to it, but only because there is such a plethora of ways you can put this product to work! I am currently using it as both a MIDI keyboard in Garageband and Ableton Live, and as a MIDI controller in Ableton Live. It serves both functions very well. Extremely well built, this thing can handle being thrown in my backpack when i'm on the go. Very reliable, haven't ever experienced any issues with it not responding as well as it did day one out of the box. Looks and Feels like a high-level piece of equipment. Strong, sturdy, reliable, but playable.

      Average mini controller

      By MATTHEW

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller:

I was in need of a mini keyboard controller and thought I'd give the qunexus a chance even though I knew it had key pads. However, it is just an average pad controller in my opinion. It does have some great things going for like having MIDI, CV, and iPad compatibility allowing to work with just about any music app along with other great features such as pressure sensitivity, tilt action, LED feedback, and polyphonic aftertouch and great build quality which are admittedly hard to find in a controller this size. However it does have its downsides in that the tiny pitch bend button at the left end of the device is pretty useless. Also, I didn't find the channel rotation feature to be all that particularly useful though I could see how some might find it fun to experiment with. Plus even though it offers a lot in terms of modulation, it would have been nice to have a proper modulation control of some sort even if it was just a mod button as well as other cool features such as a built-in arpeggiator and step sequencer. (Sorry it just has LED feedback, don't let the some of the videos out there fool you into thinking it does, especially some of the NAMM videos.) Also, I don't feel as if these pads are well suited for playing melodic lines and chords. A great controller with great potential but kind of lacking in some respects with regard to performance features. Also, bear in mind that in order to use this with an external MIDI devices and CV devices you need to buy additional accessories. Plus it would have been nice if it came with some software/sound content to help get you started. For the price I just found it to not be worth my time. If you don't mind playing melodic material and chords with a pad controller then this may be for you. If not, I recommend you look at some of Akai's latest offerings. Again, not a bad MIDI/CV controller, but kind of an average one.

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller:

I replaced a Qx25 with the QuNexus, and I'm pretty happy with it. I compose and perform ambient and experimental music, and with this controller I can run my VST instruments and effects from a single controller.

The good: AMAZINGLY powerful. With tilt, pressure, and velocity I can control several parts of my soft synths and effect at once. Great for playing tracks in and getting some feel into them.

The bad: out of the box presets needed some tweaking, especially on pressure and tilt. The editor is pretty decent, though, and inside an hour I had 4 presets perfect for various purposes
      (percussion, synths, toggle).

The ugly: if you don't understand MIDI well, you're going to have to learn it. For an old midiot like me, it was easy, but if you don't know the innards of MIDI you're going to suffer.

Bottom line: for electronic music, this thing rocks!

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller:

This is probably the best portable computer-based midi controller out there. Pressure and tilt sensitivity on each key, in such a way that each note can have modulation, pitch bend and other effects independent of effects on all other notes. Also, this board, by basically being made up of drum pads, is much more well suited to keyboard drumming.

However, buyer beware. When an octave key is pressed, the shift occurs immediately, not on the next note pressed. So if you currently have a note pressed and press the octave up button, that note will switch to the next octave up. Every other controller I know does not change notes that are already playing when the octave key is pressed. This is difficult for performance.

Also, by their own admission, the master pitch bend button as well as the tilt controllers on each button are unreliable.

Overall, I really like this piece, and I find the pressure sensitivity exciting enough to keep it, but many of its features don't quite seem ready for prime time. The octave button issue is particularly crippling.
