Overview

Keeley's most popular pedal, the Keeley compressor has become an industry standard for stomp box compression. The sound will inspire, and your music will flow freely-just plug the compressor pedal in and let your head, heart, and fingers fly. The sound quality of the Keeley compressor is rarely heard in the stompbox arena and is only seen in very expensive rackmount or tube equipment.

It is a true audiophile and studio-grade compressor, with exotic rackmount-quality in a stomp box. The Keeley compressor pedal ships with the 9V DC jack at the top end of the guitar pedal and use the same type of power supply used by nearly all guitar effect manufacturers.

Internal Attack Control
The compressor pedal has an Internal Attack control, designed for bass players with high-output active pickups or active pedal boards with buffers.

Sensitivity Control
The Keeley compressor pedal also has an Input Sensitivity Control, meaning you can use this in your studio to run keyboards, drum machines, drum mics, even master recordings and other line-level uses. You'll raise your signal to a new level of sonic awesomeness.

True bypass switching circuit
True bypass means that when the effect is off your guitar tone will not be affected at all. The true bypass circuit makes sure you have absolutely no tone loss or signal reduction through the compressor pedal in the off/bypass mode.

Triple-pole double-throw switch
This switch makes sure you have absolutely no tone loss or signal reduction through the Keeley 4-knob compressor even in the off mode. Other compressors use a cheap switch and design that runs down your signal even when off or if the battery goes weak.

The Sustain Control
The 9 O'clock position should be barely noticeable. It will just take out really loud sudden peaks, this is great for protecting your speakers and the like. The 12 O'clock position provides the right presence for using the Keeley compressor pedal continuously while performing. The 3 O'clock position is great for solos. It really adds some cool effects to your playing dynamics. Only when really cranked do you get the pluck sound of your pick emphasized.

Tone-tested components
The Keeley compressor effect has nothing but tone-tested components and has true bypass switching. Effect switching incorporates a triple pole-double throw switch. You will have clean unaffected sound when in the bypass mode, with an LED for effect indication. Metal film resistors and capacitors ensure the cleanest compressor on the market. Hand matched transistors to less than 1% tolerance ensure you get a perfectly compressed signal, no chance for unwanted distortions. For those wanting a better tone than that of Trey Anastasio from Phish or David Gilmore of Pink Floyd or the Edge of U2 this is it.

Power supply
The DC jack is the standard type fitting just about every power supply out there. The Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, MXR DC Brick, Boss, Ibanez, etc. power supplies work perfectly with the compressor

Keeley's compressors are completely hand built and tested to ensure that there are no failures. The guitar pedal is "semi-abused" to make sure there is nothing but bliss when you install your new compressor. Since each compressor pedal is hand made there might be small differences as improvements are made. Every attempt is made to make sure your Keeley pedal looks perfect and sounds better than you imagined.

This pedal is amazing. It has the best of vintage and modern qualities. It is the same as the 2 knob except the attack and clipping controls are given knobs, so you do not need to open up the case to adjust them. I went from using an MXR Dynacomp, which is an awesome pedal, but this pedal is by far a better product. There is no noise or volume loss when in use. It is easy to use and dial in tones. You can get a Santana-like sustain, James Gang rock sound, and tight country tones easily. I leave it on for about 75% of my showtime at gigs. If I could find one negative it is only this, the foot switch is very close to the knobs. Fortunately this has not been a problem in any of my performance situations. The pedal is built like a tank. Great American quality from an amazing American company. I have had to contact the Keeley company for other purchases and they are a great company to deal with they truly care for their customers and their tone. This pedal is a must have for any serious players. Your tone will improve by leaps and bounds. It works well with any type of guitar, even acoustic-electric. Buy this pedal!!

I bought this several years ago. I have always found it to be so subtle that I was not sure what was the point. I have another compressor on my board that I find to be quieter and more robust (visual sound Comp 66). The time may be coming to get rid of this, it does work OK, but for a gigging player it is a pain to adjust and it just lacks any real effect...maybe for recording it works?? The real problems with this unit are:
1. The pots have gotten very noisy (also true with pots on a moded BD-2 from keeley i have but that might be the Boss pots; and BTW I am not knocked over by the mod on the BD-2...pretty minimal change/improvement in a live environment)
2. It died after 2 yrs and I had to get it repaired at my cost
3. The pedal switch is pretty stiff and can be hard to hit when you are doing that one foot dance at a show!
4. It is way too pricey for the durability and the utility.
5. I hate the blue light as it is so bright I cannot see the knobs to adjust them on a dark stage floor.
So I know everyone loves this thing...I don't hate it, I just do not see what is so great about it. My choice would be a Visual Sound compressor, or just go with the Boss, in a noisy place it's all the same, and you got 180 extra in your pocket!! So I know lots disagree…..flame away…I can take it!

Comments about Keeley 4-Knob Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I'm still a novice player so learning how to dial in the sound I want is somewhat annoying, but that is more my lack of experience than the compressor. When I do finally nail the sound it is pretty awesome!

Comments about Keeley 4-Knob Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

Awesome pedal. Get the job done. Sustain is beautiful on this thing. Only thing is I didn receive the silver knobbed keeley pictured. Looks to be a cheaper version. With little black knobs and a different keeley logo on the bottom. Still. Amazing pedal.

Very, very nice enhancement to overall tone without that squashed compressed sound. Sustain fully adjustable from subtle to forever. Default internal switch settings seem fine to me so although there are many options available it took no time to dial in a great tone.

we average about three shows a month for the last 10 years. usually in small bars and restaurants. this pedal makes a loud hisssing noise. i sent it back to keekey and they said that the noise was normal. i run it as the first pedal in my string. as you dial up the level or the compression you also dial up hiss. i seldom have more than 4 effects on the stage. mostly blues, no super high gain. usually playing through small 10 to 15 watt amps. wish it was more quiet.

Comments about Keeley 4-Knob Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is the miracle every guitarist needs. I call it my "always on" pedal, because I never have a reason to turn it off. If you're playing a gig and haven't sound checked, worry not, this pedal will provide a miraculous crystal clear tone, no matter what you're playing through. I have personally tested this pedal playing through various amps and guitars, and it never fails to create a clear sound many guitarists try to create. The only down side is when you turn it on it generates a pretty massive volume increase, which can be a good thing too I suppose, but is not ideal if you plan on turning it on and off during a song. I play primarily jazz ,blues, and funk, so this pedal is ideal for creating a usable clean sound, with enough high end and clipping to make fast, clean soloing a breeze. However when used in tandem with an overdrive pedal, this pedal can be a monster, creating distortion levels thought unreachable. So when using overdrive, I recommend proceeding with caution. But overall, buy this. Every guitar player would benefit greatly from it.

Comments about Keeley 4-Knob Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play a Telecaster American Deluxe through a Vox AC15 in a live setting every other week for about 400 people at our church. I have been pretty happy with the sound of the tube amp and a few pedals. I've just been stacking a custom Drive/Fuzz with a second Drive/Boost pedal, into a Line 6 Delay, using the modded spring 'verb and tremolo of the amp. Very basic. But when I would try to go clean the sound was thin and didn't have much push or sustain.
A friend of mine recommended compression so I started shopping and researching. I always try to go high-end, because you get what you pay for in gear. After reading all the reviews and watching tons of videos it was a toss-up between this and the Electro-Harmonix tube Black Finger compressor. I flipped a coin and went with the Keeley. I put it in line after my rhythm Drive, just before my Lead Drive pedal and Delay and couldn't be happier. The sound stays big when I cut the drives and the clean leads and chords are just as thick as I need them to be with excellent sustain. I found a setting that works beautifully with my single coils and now I just leave it on all the time.
Well worth the money to get the sound I wanted.

Man this thing is expensive but it does sound good. You can use it as a boost, drive other pedals or smooth out your sound. I got a limited one that keeley signed which i thought was rad. I gave it 4 stars cause the price is a bit high.

Comments about Keeley 4-Knob Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

Like one of the other reviewer, I don't understand all the excitement about this pedal. IMHO, it does extremely well with clean tones but it is really noisy with higher gain.
I thought maybe I got a bad one but the light burned out after about a month and I sent it back to Keeley and asked them to check out the noise when they fixed the light. They said that they put in another wire to limit radio frequency problems and told me it was working fine. When I got it back, I felt it was worse so I sent it back again and I think they replaced the whole board and took out the extra wire. It was still as noisy as it was in the beginning when I got it back the second time but I was tired of messing with it at that point so I just use it with clean tones now.
The service people at Keeley are very friendly and were ready to help get the pedal fixed right away but I think the design of this pedal just isn't for me.
              I wouldn't buy another one.

I have this device and I use it throughout most of my live work. Its very clear, very musical and very easy to dial in. I have a GCP\GCX system and its earned its place as button 1 on the ground control. Do I recommend it - heck yes. Would I buy it again - of course.
