The Katana guitar pedal by Robert Keeley is a fat, harmonically rich boost. It operates in pure clean and high gain modes. With the speedo knob pushed in, it's a volume control that goes to 20. With the knob out, it's a cutting boost with just a touch of gritty edge.
This pedal is awesome because it has two very cool features. It is either a normal clean boost which you'd use if you like your tone. As well as a boost which gives the tone a bigger sound. It is great and loud. Also the blue LED is easy to see on stage!! I have owned the Katana for a month and it continues to perform!
This pedal works great if you're happy with your tone and need that extra volume boost for solos. My main setup is a Les Paul Custom with the Keeley Fuzz Head. When it's time for a solo, you just stomp on this box and you get the volume you need. I keep the speedo knob pushed in, set at "10". When it's pulled out, it adds a nasty tone that doesn't work for me, but it might be great for someone else. It's got a good, solid design, but my only complaint is that you have to use a screwdriver to change the battery. So I solved that problem by using a DC adaptor.
This pedal is great because it does multiple things. 1) You can turn it on and turn the dial to about 7 and you get a boost clean that won't dirty up your chords with distortion. 2) Turn it to 10 and pull the knob out and it boosts your lead very similar to a good tube screamer. 3) Also works as a volume boost if you get it right on the dial. Great pedal, I recommend using a AC Adapter not just the battery. And get it if you don't have any pedal for your clean other than your amps default clean! BORING!
