Kanstul's Model 1662i has independent CR rotors mounted on the neckpipe that allow a myriad of alternative positions for the technically astute player. To aid neck clearance, the 1662i is offered with a wider hand slide. A standard width hand slide, which weighs slightly less, is available by request. Many commercial players prefer this inline option, as the bell branch taper starts a bit later, and the player can compress the airwave against this a bit, to manipulate the tone and dynamics with less effort. Phil Keen won the Long Beach, California symphony position on his 1662i.

Comments about Kanstul 1662i Series Bass Trombone:
This horn was for my daughter who is a music education major, bass trombone is her main instrument and of all the ones she tested this was the best. She is shorter so has adjusted arms, some bones were just very difficult for her to utilize both rotors on. She loves the sound quality and everything about it. The only issue was that we had to wait since it was a backorder and guitar center took two weeks to ship it after the manufacturer sent it to them. We had paid for fat shipping and the manufacturer went out of their way to get her the horn quickly and then it sat in the warehouse for two weeks. College has already started and she needed the horn. We understood the manufacturers issue but not the wait in the guitar center warehouse.
