Overview

KRK's Rokit G2 (Generation 2) powered studio monitor delivers amazing performance and accuracy for the home or project studio at a very accessible price. The G2 Rokit has radically curved edges which virtually eliminate diffraction and provides a wider sweet spot. The Rokit G2 also features a great looking cabinet with a front-firing bass port and KRK's trademark yellow glass-aramid composite woofer and soft-domed tweeters. Dual high-power amplifiers in each speaker and active crossovers provide smooth and accurate reproduction. The Rokit monitor has the most accurate response curve in its class ensuring that you hear all of the details in your mix.

The KRK RokitG2 Series takes value-priced monitors to a different performance level. All of the great stuff that Rokit monitors have been known for (front-firing bass port, soft-domed tweeter, glass aramid composite yellow cone) are still there, but the G2 Rokit studio monitors feature refined voicing and a curved baffle that looks great, reduces diffraction, and provides even better monitoring accuracy.

No Pain With Gain

Why compromise gain structure to achieve a comfortable listening level? As musicians and recording people themselves, KRK asked that question too. So each Generation 2 Rokit monitor comes with an Input Volume Control that provides an adjustable gain range from +6dB to -30dB. Just another way the Rokit lets you focus on your mix, and not on compatibility concerns.

Catch A Wave, For A 3D Mix

Recessed tweeters may look the same, but they don't perform the same. KRK has designed a superior tweeter wave guide for the Rokit monitor that provides optimal high frequency pattern control and focuses the sound outward, away from the cabinet. More conventional designs direct sound along the plane of the cabinet where waveform interaction can cause phase problems and increased diffraction. KRK knows a properly engineered high frequency wave guide is a critical component to great sound, and one key to KRK's award winning performance.

You've Got Connections

At KRK, the focus is your mix. But it doesn't stop at creating accurate monitors. KRK appreciates the need for monitors that not only sound great but work easily into your particular set up. That's why you'll find plenty of input options with your Rokit monitor, sure to accommodate any studio environment. So if it's RCA, quarter-Inch (balanced/unbalanced) or XLR inputs you require, Rockit has got you covered.

Even More Accurate Than Before

KRK took a great monitor series and made it better. KRK's engineers and listening panel took the Generation 2 Rokits' speaker voicing to even more accurate levels. What you hear is what you are intended to hear, coloration is not part of the spec. This performance is brought to you by drivers that are custom-designed by KRKs world-class studio monitor engineering team, for clear, low-distortion performance.

Take Control

While your Generation 2 Rokit leaves the factory voiced to demanding specs, KRK also knows that no two rooms "sound" the same. As such, each Rokit monitor comes equipped with a high-frequency level control. This feature provides specific adjustment of high frequency output most commonly affected by room acoustics. It's just one extra level of control that KRK gives you to ensure the most accurate mix for your particular room's acoustics.

Don't Be Square, Curves Ahead

The Gen 2 Rockit studio monitor looks different, so it can sound better, and in a wider "sweet spot". Traditional rectangular speakers suffer from diffraction as sounds leaving the edge of the cabinet are reflected back into the original sound field, and at different time intervals. This phase distortion creates a "narrow" or "boxy" sound. The Generation 2 Rokit series eliminates this issue with radically engineered curved surfaces, so diffraction is virtually eliminated. Simply put, you'll get better sound in a wider area.

Let's Be Up Front

Other monitors have ports on the back of the cabinet. These rear-firing ports tend to create bass coupling with walls and corners amplifying low frequency information which will color your mix. The KRK Generation 2 Rokit studio monitor's design includes front-firing ports, which are just the right shape and taper to reduce port turbulence. You'll appreciate the clean and accurate bass performance this approach delivers, even at high SPL's.

Power Up!

A great sounding monitor doesn't stop with a great cabinet and custom drivers. KRKs true bi-amplified amplifier system provides discrete low-distortion power for each driver. While the active crossover systems provide smooth and accurate frequency response, and again, accurate diffraction control.

Note: Price reflects a single unit.

I just bought these monitors from my local G/C store and I am in love with them. First of all, at the store I cranked these monitors to about 85% volume and these puppies are LOUD! Even at almost full volume they delivered top quality audio without any distortion. Second, the radical curved design on the front is not just for looks. The curve helps reduce diffraction and phasing issues, and it really works. These KRK's deliver perfectly crisp high end and punchy low-end. Third, if you plan on using these monitors to just listen to music you may have to do a little EQ-ing. These monitors give a very flat frequency response which is great for mastering, but not ideal for listening to music or movies. Over all, these monitors are very very good for their price. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a pair of studio monitors.

The very last thing that you should EVER do is buy a set of monitors based on reviews. That's what I did with the KRK Rokit 5's. I have a very good bit of recording/listening experience but I am far from being a "professional" sound engineer. So... I listened to the advice of many people who (are) fans of the KRK's. Typically, I add NOTHING to my home studio without fully experiencing it.

Don't get me wrong, there ARE a lot of people who really like these monitors. For me personally however, they're very muddy and add a lot of bass. I have A/B'ed them with 4 other listening devices and on every single mixdown, of many styles of music, the result was the same... muddy and bassy comparatively speaking.

Monitor choice is a HUGE deal when it comes to your home or professional studio for sure. You absolutely MUST spend the time and purchase what sounds good only to YOU. Everyone hears differently than everyone else. As for me, it's back to Sennheiser headphones until I find the right monitors for my ears.

Comments about KRK Rokit Powered 5 Generation 2 Powered Studio Monitor (Each):

I have read surprisingly good things about the Rokit series which lead me to this purchase.

First pair I ordered, one of the speakers stopped working after two uses. It was replaced hassle free by Musicians Friend; I didn't even have to pay the return shipping which was awesome.

After it was replaced, 30 days later another one started to break down. The volume pot in the back is really dirty and the signal drops +10 dB frequently. Never owned such an unreliable shoddy pair of monitors (except the Alesis MkII's - ha)

Sound does not translate well. There is a generous amount of false bass, due to the front ports (which I expected), but I was really surprised at how amplified the low frequencies are considering the size of the speakers and the size of the room.

Comments about KRK Rokit Powered 5 Generation 2 Powered Studio Monitor (Each):

I am mainly a videographer, but also compose/produce my own music, as well as work with other amateur musicians.

These monitors sound great! I realize you're not going to find them in an LA superstar studio, but man do they still sound goooood! Hi's mids and lo's are all there in there own place, rather than a mushy all-together sound. Serious volume too, without distortion.

On installation I had an issue with computer sounds coming through the monitors. I was about ready to send them back. After extensive Googling (and finding many others suffering the same issue with RokIt's) it turned out to be a BIOS setting. (Disable C1, EIST) Check this out if you have this issue: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/329790-28-processor-noise-coming-speakers

Now, if I hold my ear up to the speaker, I can hear some light hiss and an occasional PC blip, but from the chair, they are basically silent - except when blasting tunes.

Comments about KRK Rokit Powered 5 Generation 2 Powered Studio Monitor (Each):

The Rokit 5's have to be the best 5" monitors I've heard. Me and my drummer/audio-nut friend spent all afternoon listening to every 5" and 6" monitor in the store and these stood out. No other 5" unit had this much bass and most of the 6" units were no better...you really had to go to 8" units for appreciably better bass. The overall sound was excellent, very transparent. Multiple inputs, a gain control and HiFreq adjustment knob make it user-friendly. Unless you are starting a pro-level studio, these will serve you well, especially at the price.

Great to start with. I have it one feet away and it's LOUD. I have it in negative decibels and my music comes out a lot better. It's a please to use and hear... even for regular use in my laptop. Great for a small room... place them close to the wall and you'll get everything you need. No need for subwoofer if you place them close to the wall unless you want to blow your ears out. Remember you don't need to go bigger than this for louder or clearer sound if you know what you're doing ;)

Comments about KRK Rokit Powered 5 Generation 2 Powered Studio Monitor (Each):

I bought a new house so I've been building a new home studio. These speakers are great so far! Love the design and overall accuracy. They DO NOT color the low-end like some monitors in this price range. My test mixes have been very good and I'm about done building 6 diffuser panels and 4 traps for my main room. I expect to sound even better in a couple days :) I have demo'd these for friends of mine who are either musicians or radio guys. They had heard about them but not experienced a pair. Put it this way, they liked what they heard.

I returned the M-Audio BX-5's cause they were deficient in power (in my estimation). I sampled these & the KRK 6's & was pleased in the 5's ability to krank as well as the sale price! I have KRK headphones & they are great so I decided to keep it in the family. I still own my Event 20/20 bas's but they are in storage. I use my KRK 's to monitor my tracks in my writing studio as well as when I'm practicing.. Another 5 star purchase... Thx Roy Job (GC Kendall/Miami) 4 the recommend...

After long research and review reading I finally decided to give these a try. They sound awesome to be 5 inches. The bass response you get from these in your studio you get on cd/mp3 player for your car as well. I looked at similar models in this price range but I kept coming back to these. They are well built, no problems so far. I've used them to mix my hip-hop/r&b album plus a client's mixtape. They still sound as good as the first day. Great investment, wish I had bought sooner.
