I bought RP-5 about a year ago and they are working very well without any problem. Actually, there are better other monitor speakers, but for this price,,, it's amazing. Just to give you some advises... If you plan using it for the final mix-down or even mastering, you'd better to get YAMAHA HS-50 because RP-5's characteristic of the sound is more like audio speakers rather than monitor speakers and HS-50's sound is very flat which is good characteristic as monitor speakers. However, if you plan using it for pre-production or for listening too and if you are not sound engineer, go get them. By the way, don't forget to set HF Level Adjustment to -2db because without adjustment, RP-5 has little bit too much base. Have a nice deal!!

I went to GuitarCenter to check out monitors and was tempted to buy the pair, but ended up going with the Yamaha 5''. I just didn't hear the clarity out of these speakers that I did from the Yamahas. I don't think they're a bad pair of monitors by any means, but for an extra hundred I think you get a more true sound.

Loved 'em!

By Anonymous

from Kansas

Picked up a pair of these bad boys the other day for a home recording project. They are all I could ask for and more! For the money they can't be beat. GC here in KC gave me a great deal (2 for $225), so that in and of itself is a plus. Got them home and hooked them up to my Tascam mixer and Yamaha 16 track machine and the place came alive. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to get started on a "tight" budget! Sure, there are better monitors out there, but for this price? I doubt it!

Good monitors but lack bass.

By smudge

from Kansas City, MO

The KRK RP-5?s are solid, powered, studio monitors. I purchased a pair from Guitar Center because they were within my budget. They are quality monitors and produce accurate highs but lack efficient lows and bass response. Soon after I did return them and upgraded to the KRK RP-8?s.

Rokit - pros and cons

By DerekZ

from Detroit

The KRK RP-5 Rokit Monitors are nice. The sound is extremely clear and natural. When you crank it there is no white noise that creeps. Great low ends and the highs are heavenly. Frequency adjustments on the back for tuning perfectionists. Good bang for buck. However. . . If you're rockin out hiphop or rap or anything with a boom it'll distort when its loud. If you forget to turn them off after using them they'll pop when you reboot the PC. If you put your cell phone or any wireless device on top of them they pop and make weird noises. Other than that they've been a great addition to the studio. Pros definately out weigh the cons, but its good to know everything about them.

hard to beat for the price

By A2Video.com

from San Diego, CA

I just got a pair of these for my home studio. These are priced as an entry level monitor, but I have plans for a long relationship with these speakers. They are awesome. The only downside, they are so nice they show off the glaring problem with my sound card. I couldn't tell how bad the sound card was on standard computer speakers, I am now going crazy. I guess I'll have to get an M-Audio USB or Firewire interface, since I am using a laptop. Anyway, I have them downstream from a Yamaha 10/2. This is an awesome combination for just over $300. The preamps on the yamaha combinded with the sound quality on the KRK's is excellent, (I can check it using my iPod)

Love 'em, but my wife won't

By Jlouis

from Salem, MA

I just picked these up yesterday, so I can't speak for the quality of the RP-5 Rokit Monitors over time, but I am VERY impressed with them. I have a small studio, Zoom 1266 recorder, and some low end mic's and axes. I've been mixing using headphones (a nice set of Behringers) and it's been hit or miss. I've been going through cd's like crazy, tweaking and tweaking again. After buying these last night I mixed 4 songs, and It was sweet. I get more bass out of these than I expected from reading the reviews. I almost bought a set of M-Audio BX5a's because of that, but after listening side by side, these were the better set. I haven't been recording long, have a lot to learn, and I thought I would just spend and spend until I get a good sound, but after these RP-5 monitors, I think I can produce something cool. I may not have to re-record everything after hearing myself on these, and a nice FLAT response. Nice and flat. Things sound the same now wherever I play them. My wife is going to kill me though. I've spent about 3 grand since Christmas on gear (mostly at Guitar Center). She likes my sounds though, hope that gets me through.

Incredible Speakers for this price range.

By Cello Player

from Massachusetts

These speakers really are musically well balanced. So many monitors sound like garbage because they are balanced mathematically at the expense of the human ear. This whole series of monitors is made around the idea of striking a happy medium between sterile flat response and the more musical sounding EQ that these speakers have. My only complaint would be that these speakers need help in the bass dept since bass heavy music makes the heads shake a bit more than i'd like to see ( at least they have a heavy duty head that won't likely wear out any time soon). But what can you expect when using 5" speakers, get a decent sub woofer if you like to crank out more bass heavy music, but for the price, these are incredible.

For the money and sound, Rokit rocks!

By CER Texas

from Dallas, TX

I bought a pair of Rokit's RP-5 monitors a few months ago after listening and comparing several others in its class. GC had a great deal on 'em and threw in a huge case of Roominators acoustic wall treatment. I'm blown away by the range and clarity, and the addition of the Roominator package has given me the edge I've been looking for. My mixing has improved 100% and people have noticed the increased quality of the final product. I've gained confidence and my little home studio feels and sounds PRO! Choosing the KRK RP-5 Rockits was the best move I've made since starting my home studio. Thanks GC and KRK! CER Texas

Can't beat 'em for the price!

By T. B.

from CT

Before I purchased the Rokit 5's I previously mixed on M-Audio BX5a's, which are a bit bright, but a decent monitor overall. But when I switched to the KRK's, I noticed an immediate difference, and proceeded to go back and mix all my recent projects over again! Mixes done on these also translate well to the Genelecs at the mastering house we frequently use. You can't beat these monitors for the price.

Great for personal Use

By AYTF

from Denver, Co

These rockit monitors are good for studio work to hear minute details of play while capturing the bass and depth of an instrument at the same time. The best feature is their versatility. Our band can plug them in to our Mixer and within secons have them plugged into his turntables. The drawback of these is the volume. The sound gets shaky with a lot of bass at very high volumes; it kinda rattles a little, but that's the only drawback.

An excellent budget monitor

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

These are great monitors for the price. Out of all of the budget monitors that I have tested these would definitely be in my top 3. They have enough power to provide a good listen to the material at a decent volume, plus they provide a very accurate representation of the material. The monitors are built well and they do not make noise. The signature yellow woofer looks neat in a studio to add an element of flair. The monitors provide a tight and accurate low end response which is missing from many monitors in this price range.

Essential for a home studio!!

By WillyDavidK

from Dallas, TX

These monitors are great! Mixing in headphones just doesn't compare! Every home studio should have a pair of these. The bass isn't exceptional, but is definately more than you'd expect out of a 5" woofer. Reference on these is great, even though I'm not in the best accoustic environment. The xlr inputs are great, so swing for xlr st outs if you can, I actually noticed a difference when upgrading my mixer. The 1/4" wants a TRS balanced input but typical unbalanced works fine too in close range (tho you may get noise from nearby devices). I would definately reccomend these to anyone looking for a good set of reference monitors, but I might reccomend the rp10 sub if you need good bass response as well.

Wham, Bam, Thank You Mam

By Moss Parker

from Naples, FL

I have recently upgraded my studio for 5.1 surround production. In the course of moving to 5.1 I ended up selecting a Hsu Research VFT MK2 subwoofer that accurately delivers the goods down to 20Hz. Being that I am doing audio-specific mixes, I chose a rather pedestrian BIC Center channel speaker. When it came time to choose the front and back L/R speakers, after auditioning every member of the KRK family, Yamahas, Behringer Truths (yes, Behringers)and Mackies, I determined that for my application, given the excellent bass performance of the Hsu subwoofer, no speaker could beat the RP5 for surround imaging (the other KRKs were as good, but their added bottom did little for me). So, bottom line is tghat if you havce a decent sub, you won't do much better than the Rokit RP5.

nice. For the price, GREAT

By bryanonbass

from dover, nj

I went into GC looking for powered monitors and was actually looking at more expensive (mackie, alesis, etc). But I just liked what I heard from these. I am by no means a professional audio guru. I have played bass for 14 years but I have loved listening to music my whole life. This is what I based my review of these on. I brought some cd's with me of tunes that I feel could really put my choices to the test and suprisingly these came out on top. I am by no means saying that mackie or alesis were not good monitors. By all means they were awesome. I am just saying for the price, these are great. Plus I could spend the money I was saving on some good mics(which are key for recording). I think these are very flat sounding and have done some nice records on them. The sound they produce translates to other speaker setups really well. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a great deal on monitors.

right speakers for the right room

By 4Bidden

from Tempe, AZ

For a home studio in the bedroom, I couldn't recommend better speakers. The bass and volume response in my room is more than enough for a good mix. For the price They are equal to a high price monitor. They are just big enough to fit on my desk. The sound is really nice and since buying these I have gone back to some old mixes and realized that they could be better hanks o these speakers. The highs are clean, but if you think you need a little more, there is a knob on the back that you can use to get to what you think is pure. Again the bass is making my room vibrate, other than saying that you upgraded to the rp-6, I really don't see the need. I mix pop/r&b music and these give me a very good idea of what I'm putting out in reality. If you have a standard 12 x 12 room to mix in, I don't think you need anything bigger. these are perfect for the room.

A great alternative

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Just like any other review you have read previously, these babies pump out a lot of sound for there size. The low response is not top knotch at a higher volume but they do sound clear. Just get the KrK RP-10S Subwoofer along with them and you will be completely happy with the sound, and overall spending.

Recommend Highly....

By BigDog578

Although one of the pair that I bought would not power up (I checked the fuse), after exchanging it for another one I am thoroughly impressed. Sound quality is outstanding and true. They are much, much better than I expected for the price and quite a bit of low end for such a small woofer. I would recommend them to anyone for the price.

Must have

By 1p5

from Dayton, Ohio

These are must have for the computer producer who doesn't have big money. It has a nice flat responce for mixing and it also lets you hear a little bass. These speakers are great near field mixing speakers.
