Overview

Whether you are listening to some tracks, or tracking your next recording, the KNS 6400 gives you the famous KRK sound independent of your monitors. This closed-back around-the-ear design brings you closer to your music, and the highly isolated surround pads give you the freedom to immerse yourself in the sound without having your monitor mix "escape" into open microphones - and keeps live instruments out of what you are monitoring. Having "One Voice" that consistently gives you accurate reproduction of your music or mix will help you achieve just what the artist intended - especially if the artist is you.

KRK headphones provide a precise listening experience that takes you from personal studio to commercial studio to on-the-go track evaluations - and they allow you to accurately enjoy your music with the consistent voicing philosophy and honest reproduction top producers, studio musicians, performers and engineers have come to trust.

The KNS 6400 offer an incredibly natural frequency response that gives you a reference standard unaffected by your location. Day or night. Studio or home. Without disturbing others. Without compromising your tracks.

I've had these for over a month. These are NOT ۡ̏Beats by Dr. Dreۡݕ_. If your looking for headphones to color the music to make it sound better, then get those or some Bose headphones. If you are looking for accurate headphones that have none of that ۡ̏Half the sound in one ear, half in the other and a missing phantom centerۡݕ_. Then these are great. There is a smooth panning field with a well defined phantom center. They are like near field monitors for your ears. The bass is deep and well defined and will vibrate your headphones. The bass is not an overpowering driving force. These are for hearing the music as it really is. If you want to be able to mix a track so it sounds good on any equipment it's played on, then you want these. I will admit that if you are playing these just through your ۡ̏PC headphones outۡݕ_ jack they will sound like they are missing bass and the highs will sound brittle. Do yourself a favor and get a good headphone amp. You should have one anyway if you plan on mixing accurately. And by the way, these get REALLY LOUD without distorting with a good amp. Yet are very accurate at low levels. I have different headphones (BeatsByDre Pro, AKG K99, Audio-Technica ATH-M35, Shure SRH240) and I find these the best for mixing on due to how flat they are.I also like the fact that the cord is replaceable. I have had to replace headphones due to a ruined cord. Also I recommend burning these for about 3 days before they are really ready. I used a sine wave sweep generator while playing different styles of music (Dance/Hip Hop/Rock/Classical) for over 75 hours. In this price range these are the one of the best headphones you can get. Just don't expect much if playing through a weak amp like the ones built into laptops and PC's

I wanted to like these, the specs sounded good and they're very comfortable and lightweight, but in reality they have very weak bass output to the point I thought something might be wrong, especially in comparison to my 5 year old Koss PortaPro headphones. I tried them on my PC and Onkyo HT receiver with the same results. They do sound very clean and I could easily notice a lower quality mp3 vs. high quality but the lack of bass is very distracting and turning up the bass only makes them distort. I also noticed the mid-range is a little lacking in comparison to my PortaPro's. Unfortunately ive decided to return them for something else.

I received these as a gift and wanted to like them, but unfortunately they lack deep lows, high treble, and clarity. They aren't useful for reference.

Great Reference Headphones from a great audio company... BURN-IN first!

By Daniel Nebab

from Daly City, CA

Comments about KRK KNS-6400 Studio Headphones:

As with every pair of QUALITY headphones, you should always burn-in (at least 100hrs, some times 200hrs depending on your cans.) I bought these after reading many reviews and doing my research on www.headphone.com and found these will be comparable to my Etymotic ER-6i's. The Ety's were among my first pair of pro headphones/earphones, and I like their accurate/flat sound. If you're looking for headphones to color your music/sound, then go for some Monster Beats or Bose Headphones. Do note though, those are high-end CONSUMER headphones are not recommended, nor are used by audio professionals. I myself am no audio engineer (still working on my degree) but love listening to music. These cans out of the box are very bright, almost harsh. It was SUPER clear, but too harsh to enjoy, so after a few days of burn-in, (as of right now, they only have 25hrs of burn in) they seem to balance out, and the bass/lows are coming out. The mids were very prominent and well defined from the beginning, but now they seem more lively and natural. The highs are fine, seemed to have rolled-off a bit, but still very clear. Compared to my Sennheiser HD428's, these are VERY clear and accurate. The HD428's are still very clear, bassy and lively, without the muddy over powered bass of Beats. These are so far my BEST pair of headphones, with great isolation, great comfort (the KNS-8400 is probably worlds more comfy due to memory foam pads) and the sound is phenomenal. I've recently gotten into making short films, so I'll be using these for audio editing in post production. These are great for musicians, engineers, and other audio professionals as well as general music listening. PROS - Clean, Accurate, Lively Proffesional Sound (after burn in) - Comfortable and Lightweight - Durable - VERY Competitive Price - User Replaceable Parts CONS: - Lacking Memory Foam Pads of KNS-8400 (but you can probably install those yourself) - Out of the Box - Sound is very bright, but balances out after burn in - Didn't come out sooner! Bottom Line: I would DEFINITELY recommend these to a friend, if I didn't want to keep these among the best kept secrets of audio professionals. MY BACKGROUND: I like music, but after getting a pair of Sennheiser PX100's for my 15th birthday, I realized I now LOVE music. I then set on a venture to find (and review) the best headphones (I can afford). Unfortunately I've never owned any amps for these, but most of them are 36ohms, 32ohms, and 16ohms. I'm 20 now, and have been through more headphones than the average music listener will go through in their lifetime. Headphones I've owned/currently own: Sennheiser - PX100 black - PX100 white - HD205 - HD428 - IE8 Sony - MDR-EX56LP - MDR-V150 Klipsch - Image S2 - Image One Koss - PortaPro (25th Anniversary Edition) Etymotic - ER-6i KRK Systems - KNS-6400 Audio Sources I've used a few mp3 players iPods - original 4th Gen - Video/5th Gen - iPod Touch 1st gen, 2nd, and 3rd gen Zunes - original 30gb Zune - Zune HD (16gb) - GREAT audio. Made for music, not 'apps' Creative Labs - X-fi2 (8gb) - Best audio so far. Very adjustable. Love 'Crystalizer' and 'Expand' settings. Gives you better soundstage, and livelier sound. Right now, I'm running my music from a Creative Labs X-fi2, which is among the best music players in terms of great audio quality and very adjustable musical experience.

Excellent sound in the purest form...

By babair

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about KRK KNS-6400 Studio Headphones:

True to their claim, with the KNS 6400 KRK has created a studio headphone for the audiophile. Excellent dynamic range allows music to be reproduced in it's purest form without coloration or distortion. And the 90 dB drivers provide tonal clarity that is spot on, having enough headroom to push individual frequencies without distortion or muddying. I have listened with these for hours on end. It's lightweight and wide headband contribute to a comfort and fit on par with much more higher end units. One minor squawk: the earpads produced a rubbing sound against my eyeglasses, but did not detract against the listening experience. Do your ears a favor, listen for yourself...

Great monitoring Headphones!!

By Alejandro Garza Paredes

from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Comments about KRK KNS-6400 Studio Headphones:

This are the best for the price! They are flat as a headphones could be, we know that for professional mixing you̴ll need good studio monitors and a suitable room, but if you don̴t have any of it at the time you are making music, this does the job very well. The isolation of the outside is fine, as well to the mics when recording vocals. This gives you the sense of hearing the music from speaker monitoring. The low end is good, I actually hear the electronic kick sub-bass pretty fine (you can clean the bass sounds very well) and mids are in place. My reason to not giving them 5 stars, is that I didn̴t like the support of the separated headpads, I would have liked one piece head-pad. The ear support is very good, and you can work with them long sessions. They are not fancy, the prices is for resistant materials and audio quality

Great Headphones !!!!!!!!

By Chris

from Birmingham, AL

Comments about KRK KNS-6400 Studio Headphones:

First let me say that I tried the following headphones: Beats by Dr. Dre (To much Bass), Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (They sound amazing but they are uncomfortable, you can only wear them for about 1 1/2 hours before they will get on your nerves), Sony MDR - 7506 (They sound very good, but I was concerned about the duribilty), Shure SRH 440 (They're good but it seems like something was lacking and they are big and heavy on your head) Before i bought the KRK I researched the internet for reviews about the product, then I looked at some youtube clips and I based my choice on the things I for out when comparing them to more expensive studio monitors. You will see a lot of reviews saying that there is no bass. I will tell those people to blame it on the engineers who mixed the cd, because what you hear out these headphones is exactly how the knobs were adjusted on the board. As a musician I can not afford to have headphones that's going to color everything I listen to, then after a certain point all your music will start sounding the same because the headphones are coloring the music instead of allowing you to hear what the artist want you to hear. The KNS 6400 feels great and they do not feel cheap and you can wear these more multiply hours. Do yourself a favor and invest in quality and sound instead of a name brand.

Better than I expected. Flat and good for reference, comfortable, and great price.

By Michael

from Anaheim, CA

Comments about KRK KNS-6400 Studio Headphones:

I purchased these as backup headphones, and for hard use during my travels. As it turns out, I'm impressed and have been using them constantly in my home studio. The sound is flat as others have mentioned and so they work quite well for reference and mixing. For the price I don't think they can be beat. The design isn't anything fancy, but they look professional. I think KRK's focus was function over fashion, and keeping the price-point down. With respect to comfort and extended wear, I've worn them for 6 hours straight without pain or fatigue. For my late-night sessions I wouldn't use anything else.
