Whether you are listening to some tracks, or tracking your next recording, the KNS 6400 gives you the famous KRK sound independent of your monitors. This closed-back around-the-ear design brings you closer to your music, and the highly isolated surround pads give you the freedom to immerse yourself in the sound without having your monitor mix "escape" into open microphones — and keeps live instruments out of what you are monitoring. Having "One Voice" that consistently gives you accurate reproduction of your music or mix will help you achieve just what the artist intended — especially if the artist is you.
KRK headphones provide a precise listening experience that takes you from personal studio to commercial studio to on-the-go track evaluations — and they allow you to accurately enjoy your music with the consistent voicing philosophy and honest reproduction top producers, studio musicians, performers and engineers have come to trust.
The KNS 6400 offer an incredibly natural frequency response that gives you a reference standard unaffected by your location. Day or night. Studio or home. Without disturbing others. Without compromising your tracks.

I've had these for over a month. These are NOT ?Beats by Dr. Dre?. If your looking for headphones to color the music to make it sound better, then get those or some Bose headphones. If you are looking for accurate headphones that have none of that ?Half the sound in one ear, half in the other and a missing phantom center?. Then these are great. There is a smooth panning field with a well defined phantom center. They are like near field monitors for your ears. The bass is deep and well defined and will vibrate your headphones. The bass is not an overpowering driving force. These are for hearing the music as it really is. If you want to be able to mix a track so it sounds good on any equipment it's played on, then you want these. I will admit that if you are playing these just through your ?PC headphones out? jack they will sound like they are missing bass and the highs will sound brittle. Do yourself a favor and get a good headphone amp. You should have one anyway if you plan on mixing accurately. And by the way, these get REALLY LOUD without distorting with a good amp. Yet are very accurate at low levels. I have different headphones (BeatsByDre Pro, AKG K99, Audio-Technica ATH-M35, Shure SRH240) and I find these the best for mixing on due to how flat they are.I also like the fact that the cord is replaceable. I have had to replace headphones due to a ruined cord. Also I recommend burning these for about 3 days before they are really ready. I used a sine wave sweep generator while playing different styles of music (Dance/Hip Hop/Rock/Classical) for over 75 hours. In this price range these are the one of the best headphones you can get. Just don't expect much if playing through a weak amp like the ones built into laptops and PC's
Got the KRKs, I heard people saying that they dont have good bass, TRUE they dont, but they do. THEY"RE JUST FLAT! Everything depends on you mixes. Ill recomend this headphones for Hip-Hop/R&B producer.

Great Reference Headphones from a great audio company... BURN-IN first!
As with every pair of QUALITY headphones, you should always burn-in (at least 100hrs, some times 200hrs depending on your cans.)
I bought these after reading many reviews and doing my research on www.headphone.com and found these will be comparable to my Etymotic ER-6i's. The Ety's were among my first pair of pro headphones/earphones, and I like their accurate/flat sound.
If you're looking for headphones to color your music/sound, then go for some Monster Beats or Bose Headphones. Do note though, those are high-end CONSUMER headphones are not recommended, nor are used by audio professionals. I myself am no audio engineer (still working on my degree) but love listening to music.
These cans out of the box are very bright, almost harsh. It was SUPER clear, but too harsh to enjoy, so after a few days of burn-in, (as of right now, they only have 25hrs of burn in) they seem to balance out, and the bass/lows are coming out. The mids were very prominent and well defined from the beginning, but now they seem more lively and natural. The highs are fine, seemed to have rolled-off a bit, but still very clear. Compared to my Sennheiser HD428's, these are VERY clear and accurate. The HD428's are still very clear, bassy and lively, without the muddy over powered bass of Beats. These are so far my BEST pair of headphones, with great isolation, great comfort (the KNS-8400 is probably worlds more comfy due to memory foam pads) and the sound is phenomenal. I've recently gotten into making short films, so I'll be using these for audio editing in post production.
These are great for musicians, engineers, and other audio professionals as well as general music listening.
PROS
- Clean, Accurate, Lively Proffesional Sound (after burn in)
- Comfortable and Lightweight
- Durable
- VERY Competitive Price
- User Replaceable Parts
CONS:
- Lacking Memory Foam Pads of KNS-8400 (but you can probably install those yourself)
- Out of the Box - Sound is very bright, but balances out after burn in
- Didn't come out sooner!
Bottom Line:
I would DEFINITELY recommend these to a friend, if I didn't want to keep these among the best kept secrets of audio professionals.
MY BACKGROUND:
I like music, but after getting a pair of Sennheiser PX100's for my 15th birthday, I realized I now LOVE music. I then set on a venture to find (and review) the best headphones (I can afford). Unfortunately I've never owned any amps for these, but most of them are 36ohms, 32ohms, and 16ohms. I'm 20 now, and have been through more headphones than the average music listener will go through in their lifetime.
Headphones I've owned/currently own:
Sennheiser
- PX100 black
- PX100 white
- HD205
- HD428
- IE8
Sony
- MDR-EX56LP
- MDR-V150
Klipsch
- Image S2
- Image One
Koss
- PortaPro (25th Anniversary Edition)
Etymotic
- ER-6i
KRK Systems
- KNS-6400
Audio Sources
I've used a few mp3 players
iPods
- original 4th Gen
- Video/5th Gen
- iPod Touch 1st gen, 2nd, and 3rd gen
Zunes
- original 30gb Zune
- Zune HD (16gb) - GREAT audio. Made for music, not 'apps'
Creative Labs
- X-fi2 (8gb) - Best audio so far. Very adjustable.
Love 'Crystalizer' and 'Expand' settings. Gives you better soundstage, and livelier sound.
Right now, I'm running my music from a Creative Labs X-fi2, which is among the best music players in terms of great audio quality and very adjustable musical experience.
