Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

This is a simple, sturdy bar to mic a stereo amp. Strong enough not to bend easily. About 12" of separation between the mic capsules on the two SM57's when you angle them away from each other. The bar itself is strong enough not to bend, but the whole thing is only as stable as the mic stand you mount it on.

    Replying to Paul C.

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

I agree on the usefulness. You mentioned dual mic cable. I have used 'starquad' cable to make my own dual cables. I have even made a 'micro-snake' with shielded cat5 LAN cable. Works great for those times when you need 2 or 3 mics in a close group and want to minimize floor clutter. Since it tends to be a bit stiff, it stays put pretty well, and there's alway gaffer tape or duct tape to keep it clean. I'm also a believer in Velcro(r) to keep cables tamed. Besides X-Y mode, I have also used these to keep wireless mics handy, without trying to find a table or having a huge clutter of stands. You can even use three to get 4 mics on one stand (think the letter H).

Great Design, Very Flexible, Needs a Bit of Help

    By Charles Henderson

    from Edmonton, KY

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

An excellent means of getting a pair of mics positioned just where you want them, but the mounting systems need careful attention to assembly or mics might not stay in place. I installed K&M bar at the end of a boom to be used in X-Y config for recording acoustic guitar. I used an adjustable swivel adapter at the end of the boom (On-Stage Stands Posi-Lok Clutch) to adjust the angle of the K&M bar, and can now point these mics exactly how I want them. The first problem is, neither the Posi-Lok Clutch nor the K&M bar come with a knurled lock nut like we find at the end of every mic stand. This lock nut is necessary to tighten the K&M bar mount while still being able to adjust it's angle on the boom. I solved this issue by swiping a lock nut from another mic stand. It's a fairly thick nut, though, so I've only got a couple threads holding the K&M bar onto the Posi-Lok Clutch. You'll need to find a thin mic stand lock nut. Second, most mic holders and shock mounts come threaded with the standard 5/8" female mic stand mount, and also include a screw-in adapter to fit the 3/8" threads on the K&M mic mount knobs. You'll need to make sure this adapter is screwed in TIGHT to your mic holder. Use pliers. I didn't at first, and my mics keep coming loose there with very little pressure. Tighten those 3/8" adapters! And finally, the mic mount knobs on the K&M bar need nylon washers to create a firm, smooth, positive, position lock. Without washers, the knobs go from loose to instantly tight, with no gradual transition. Bump them, and they're loose again. Unless you use pliers to tighten the knobs, which will mean you'll need pliers whenever you want to reposition mics or put things away. Nylon washers between the bottom of the K&M bar and the mic holder adapters will solve this problem nicely, and "finger tight" will hold fast. All in all, I'm very happy with the quality, value, and flexibility of the K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder. The thing is bullet proof, and with just a little TLC - the addition of a mic stand locknut and a pair of nylon washers - it can be used with confidence for a lifetime.

    Stereo Mike Bar

    By 1327510

    from Merritt Island, FL

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

The Stereo Bar is very sturdy and holds two mikes very well. It solved my problem of not having to use two mike stands with booms. The locking using locking nut technique is very good.

Very well made, great quality. I use this so I can have my singing mic and talk box mic hooked up on the same stand. This works perfect for this set up.

BEST remedy for stereo microphones on an overhead boom

    By Emery

    from Pflugerville Texas

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

As a retired radio/tv engineer and D.J., I decided to build an internet radio station in my home studio. I was amazed to discover just how inexpensive it is, EXCEPT..a very expensive tool would normally be an overhead mike boom. The K&M mic. bar allowed me to use a regular (cheap) floor mic. stand by mounting it utilizing 2 U bolts on the top of the bookcase behind the control board. The K&M bar allows you to mount mics on either the top or under the bar, so you can hang it from the ceiling or mount it to a floor stand and get great results for stereo applications. This little guy saved me several hundred dollars!

    Very Cool

    By Paul C

    from Memphis, Tn

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

Anyone running live sound or doing recording should have one or two of these laying around. Why use two mic stands to get those condenser mics in a nice X-Y for recording drums when you can use this? It takes some fooling with, but one less stand in a crowded room is worth the cash. Now, if I could only find a 2 in 1 XLR cable...

    Great Utility

    By Dave

    from Portland, OR

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

I use this under a grand piano with two medium goosenecks and some great condenser mics. With my configuration I pick up the full range of the piano. I rarely give 5 stars, this piece is an exception that is built sturdy with good quality! P.S. I did NOT need a wrench to set this up.

A Good Stereo Bar, but You'll Likely Need a Wrench

    By Geoff Knorr

    from Baltimore, MD

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

This stereo bar is good because of the flexibility it offers for getting your near-coincident stereo mic setups right. Only one issue (so far) - The part that mounts to the microphone shock mount can be difficult to remove from the shock mount once you've tightened it. Its a little hard to explain why without having a picture - the screw for attaching your shock mounts can be completely unscrewed from the bar, and when this happens, you can't get a good grip on the screw to unscrew it. Its not a big deal, you'll just have to make sure you carry along a wrench or pair of pliers in case its too tight to loosen by hand.

K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder

    By Rick

    from Colorado Springs, CO

Comments about K&M Microphone Bar Dual Mic Holder:

It's a great idea and cheap. I use this as a hand held boom for paranormal investigations and my problem with this is that the screws loosen up and the mics will slide along the bar. I have to use duc tape to keep them from sliding. Another small problem is that the chrome screws stick in the mic mount and have to be removed using plyers. That's more of a pain in the butt more than anything else. It is lightweight and cheap and until something better comes along I will be using it.
