Near perfect amp

By Eric D.

from Phila, PA

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Been playing this for a couple of weeks now and am very pleased with the dynamics and tone from the Jet City 50 watter. Pure, no BS signal. Loud as hell (if you want it to be), but still retains a nice saturation at lower volumes. Oh, and you cant beat the price. Reverb would have been nice.

WOW!

By Dingus

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Finally an amp that doesn't cost a fortune and actually sounds great without any of those "gimmick" controls that are there to fall apart and neuter your tone. I feel sorry for the boutique guys, but hey, the economy will recover one day.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is by far the best all-tube amp head at this price point on the market today. The gain on this amp is outstanding. I only have two issues with this amp, neither of which is enough to take away the 5 star rating. My first quib, there's no reverb. With that said, there are a lot of awesome verb pedals on the market to choose from. My choice is the Hall of Fame (or Mini HOF), which brings me to the second issue. The FX loop is LINE LEVEL ONLY. +4db. This means 98% of the guitar pedals on the market won't work with it. TC Electronic's TonePrint series pedals will take a line level input though so they are your go-to guys for effects pedals with this head. Again, I love TC Electronic and I think paired with this Jet City JCA50H, the tone will be smokin'!!!!!

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm a giging musician who bought the JCA50h to replace my Randal RH200. The JCA50 has all the power you'll ever need, it's super loud, but for as loud as this amp goes it has zero low end. You can't get any low end punch out of it. The gain structure on the overdrive channel is super fizzy and almost sounds as if it's sitting on top of your notes rather than saturated threw your tone. The JCA50H is not a good amp for hard rock/heavy metal, it would probably be better for a soft rock/blues player.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've been using the JCA50H for over a year now at our weekly band rehearsals, paired with a Jetcity jca24s+ cab. Over the last month I've been playing thru a Marshall 1960A. I play in a cover band, mostly hard rock and metal.

Overall I love the amp and would purchase again if something ever happen to the one I own now. It's an amazing sounding amp for the price.

The pro's are pretty straight forward, its a beast. The tone is impressive. I've played it thru a 2x12 cab and a 4x12 cab and can't believe how loud this beast gets. I often play with the volume at 2-3, just scratching the surface of the gain channel. Any louder and my band mates give me a hard time. It's always a balance to get the right level because its so easy to go too loud.

The cons, I don't think these are bad but they were concerning learning about them after trial and error.
-The EQ is just before the power amp in the circuit board, typical to some of the Soldano designs. This means anything in the effects loop is colored by the EQ. I've found this to be frustrating. I don't run anything into the effects loop since its a rehearsal amp for me, but this would be a huge issue for my live rig. I don't think I would use it for live use.
-There is a audible noise when the gain channel is engaged. Seems typical for high gain amps and common among this model.
-The crunch channel isn't that clean. Keeping it under 3 on the gain will give you a usable clean sound, but it's not anything amazing in that regard. But it does great for using this as a crunch/high gain amp.

Overall I'm very happy with the amp for the purposes I need. But I wouldn't want it if it was my only amp. However its hard to beat at its price point and for entry level players, or people searching for high gain monsters, this amp is amazing.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This thing sounds awesome and very big. The head isn't easy to lug around but its not too heavy. Its great for moden metal with an od pedal and the gain is very versatile. Does clean up but nothing spectacular like the lead channel. I play it in a bedroom for the most part while it can get loud, its also very controllable. I was sceptical that 50watts of tube would break all the windows in a house. I returned a peavey 6505 micro 20w for this and even keeping both amps around the same volume level this does just blow it out of the water. If you want good sound for practice and have the capability of playing shows get this amp. You won't regret it.
