Purity of tone.

By bandeeto

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Just bought this combo. Background: Used to play through a Fender Pro Jr. and the various pedals i needed to get my sound. Gear: All Mogami cables. Gibson LP Studio (stock). Like: The sound, the sound, the sound! Crystal clean is nice, but Don't use it much. Warm/dirty/bluesy clean, crunches of all shades, rhythm rock, rock lead, and heavy(-ish) rock are all there and they are beautiful. The depth and range of tones in this amp impress me every time I plug in. From my experience with other amps tone controlls were set and forget. These tone controlls are so rewarding and effective that I find myself playing genras and using tones that were a chore to find in the past. The reverb built into the combo adds to my sound without getting in the way or sounding like a gimmick. This amp is touch sensitive. It does what I want, when I want, how I want, with no fuss. Don't know what else to say about that. Ironically, switching to this single channel amp and removing all pedals from my signal chain, the range of tones that I use on a regular basis has increased! Ha! Build quality is great (except for...) Bummer: The pilot light is spotty. Shuts off after about an hour. Since my sessions can last 6-8 hours at a time it is MIA more than not. Not that big a deal really. I can see the tubs glow through the top grill on the amp so I know it's on anyway. Contacted Jet City Customer support and got a reply that same day. My only concern is that this might be a harbinger of issues to come... yes i'm biased against supposedly poor Chinese quality... but the pilot LED is completely off the PCB so hopefully this is an exception and not the rule. Fin: Scetchy LED aside the internals look solid. The exterior build quality is impressive as well, and the sound is whatever I want it to be. I always mic now adays (having seperat amps for practice/recording and performance is a waste of time and money to me) so it's plenty loud... too loud more often than not. Might spring for the 2 channel if/when jet city comes out with one, but am glad i didn't wait. I'd be missing out right now. Don't know why people pay $66 less to miss out on a custom eminence speaker and sweet reverb. If I feel the need for more speaker cones i can... oh i don't know... connect them too. Then again as a guitarist I've always cared more about how I sound than how my rig looks. Bottom line is purity of tone, irregardless of the price... the JCA2112RC has it so i'm keeping it.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I dont own this :yet: but its not going to be long maybe a couple more days. I got to check this out yesterday at the local guitar store. I was so impressed with the tone of this amp. I have always had two channel amps so this was a concern untill we turned up the gain it was like a light coming on. To me it sounded better than all of the others I had just listened to. The tube reverb well that was great it was like someone put real butter all over it :sweet: it was the best reverb I had ever heard. The distortion is the best I have ever heard I have been looking for a tube amp that I could afford this is it for me. I simply love the tone of this amp.

Blown Away

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Ok I am going to review this without sounding like a Jet City fan boy. I tried out many tube amps in the 400-1000 dollar range. After hearing about Jet City I had to try them for myself. I tried the 20Watt head with the 1x12 cabinet first. Sounded great. Loud, crunchy breakup and nice cleans with tones of tone. Then I tried the Combo. I liked it better because it has true tube and spring reverb and you can add the 1x12 cabinet for even more sound and lower end. Again cleans are good but not as good as Fender. So if you want that nice clean fender sound, this probably isn't the best for you. This guy will do a nice blues break up with a little dirt all the way up to a metal sound. Handles pedals very well. If you're like me, go in and try one and you'll be sold.

Best of the best

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I recently purchased this amp. I am a professional of 48 years. I am a musician who plays mostly small clubs. I have owned every amp under the sun but comparing this amp to anything in it's class is easy. It hands down is better than fender blues jr, vox, marshal or any tube amp in it's class. It gives you everything from clean to crunch to heavy metal. More than enough power for any venue and if in a stadium you can always mic it. The presence knob is extremely good and even though the reverb is not over the top it is more than enough with a very warm or bright tone depending on your settings. It is built solid and because it is plywood instead of MDF it is light weight and easy to carry even for a 60 year old dog like me. I really can't say enough about how good this amp is. Another thing I like about it, This amp does not have all the cheesy sounding effects in it. No hums at all and no modifications are necessary. This is the only review I have ever written about any product and it is well deserved. The only draw back is easily overcome. This amp will start to break up early maybe just a bit to soon. If you use a compressor you can ad more volume and get the clean tone you are after. Again I have owned them all since 1963. If you are looking for amp to do it all this one comes the closest of any amp I have ever owned. Absolutely no problems, great construction, great versatile tones, light weight, good for any venue and power can be increased if needed by using compressor. The greatest part of all it is only $300.00 US. Compared to amps at $499 and $599 that are not as good the price has to make you feel great. My Congratulations to Jet city and Soldano the designer. Job more than well done at a price anyone can afford.

Great tone, where's the Reverb?

By DetroitBlues

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I recently purchased this amp. It has some of the best tones for the money. Headroom for playing clean is a little less than I'd like, but a clean boost helps just fine. This amp is very sensitive to picking attack, so if you play it lightly, its really clean. Strum it hard and there's the gain! Get used to using your volume control because that's all you'll need to go from clean to dirty on this amp. The only isssue I've got with this amp is the Reverb. I went from a Fender Superchamp XD to a Bugera V22 to this. By far, this reverb is the weakest. I'm starting to suspect that I may just have a dud reverb. I'm waiting for JCA to let me know. I can't check this at my local GC because they don't carry the combo's.

This Is Tone

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Mike Soldano, the creator of argueably the greatest amps ever has personally designed this amp. That should give you satisfaction that this amp is legite. And it is. Awesome cleans and good reverb. The volume can be cranked with the gain higher up to give you some nice chug chug tones. I seriously love this amp, and for the price its unbeatable. The only flaw is the pilot light mentioned earlier. But its a light, not a big deal at all.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have been playing guitar for 48 years, a recording engineer for 30 years and I repair amps as well. So speaking from experience and having owned amps from the 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's 00's, & now 2011 here are my thoughts: I am playing a Fender Stratocaster with 54 pups in it. POWER: Simply put more power than you will ever need. Perfect for any venue unless you are playing in a stadium then you might need to mic it. TONE: all three tone controls do there job just fine and in using them in conjunction with the very "MAGICAL PRESENCE KNOB" you can dial into just about any tone you will ever need from Bach to Rock and Over The Top. GAIN & MASTER VOLUME: I agree with most reviews that the amp breaks up very soon. Master on 10 and gain on 4 is when mine starts to break up. However, If clean is what you want, It is easily taken care of by using a compression pedal with the volume up. This cleans it up a lot. REVERB: It has a hint of reverb at lower volumes and adjust to good old surf reverb sounds of the early 60's as you increase it. I prefer just a hint of any effects when using them and I rely mostly on the amps capabilities when I play. CONSTRUCTION: Very Solid, Made of wood and this also ads to the mid range tone giving it a warm sound more pleasing to my ear, Yet again I say the PRESENCE KNOB works magic if you desire less of a mid range tone and more highs or lows they are in the magical presence knob. I am telling you straight up the presence knob is the key to dialing into any tone you need from Stevie Ray to Hendrix, Page, Beck, Clapton, Satriani, whoever and whatever tone you want is there even heavy metal buzz ballads. The Speaker is a 12" Eminence which lends to a mid range tone but if you want brighter try the Jensen ceramic speaker. I am leaving this stock as it is great for me the way it is. Also very light weight to carry even for this 60 year old man. DESIGN: BY Soldano, what can I say, Incredible design comes to mind, congratulations. NOISE: My amp does not make any extra noises until you turn both the gain and the master volume all the way up, At this point I get good old natural feed back. Over all the amp sounds just a bit mid range but again depending on what you use with it and that MAGICAL PRESENCE KNOB make this amp the best in it's class for power and sound with a lot of tone variety. PRICE: Considering others in its class for twice the money, I have to say this is as good as anything out there and for only $299. I think it is an unbelievable bang for the buck. This amp is a great place to start for the tone fanatic and it is easy to build off of what it offers to create even more tones as you experiment with different effects, tubes, speakers etc. Overall for me, It is the beginning of a long meaningful relationship. I am more than pleased for my money. The only thing better would be two of them for stereo.

I love this amp

By Thomas

from Portland, OR

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

It's my first tube amp. I never got the whole "tube" thing until I played an old fender frontman with tubes...then it made sense. I decided I needed that sound, so I did a little research and found this amp which is essentially a clone of Michael Soldano's "Atomic 16." So you can drop over a grand looking for one of those or you can bust out 3 bills and picked this thing up. It's loud, sounds amazing, and I love it. On the down side, it's heavy, and it doesn't have a lot of bells and whistle. Just straight up awesome tube tone. If this thing had an FX loop I would hack the guitar center website so I could give this thing 6 stars. Regardless, if you want a combo that can keep up with a drumset, won't break the bank and gives you that awesome overdriven tube tone, look no further.

Clarity and Balls

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I like how this amp allows one to really use finger pressure + pick attack to really play with the tone. This amp has really allowed me to explore new territory sound-wise, where I have the ability to now obtain tone dynamics that I never knew existed [my previous amps]. I think anyone trying this amp will be a bit surprised how easily this amp allows you to make sounds from your existing guitar/pedalboard that will absolutely open up new doors to your playing. As for the reviews that said it's not the cleanest amp, I don't know what they're talking about - it can get as clean as you want it to be. But, max out the pre-amp, and hold on - this baby will roar, yet you'll still be able to hear one string if you want to....Don't know how they achieved this, but I love it! That said - it's dead simple, no fancy stuff. It doesn't go up to 11~!, but only 9 [inverse Spinal Tap]. Nit's include: I wish the reverb had more punch when maxed out to 9, but it's a small nit, since most of the songs I play are overdriven and pedal boosted. The Amp's reverb will not even remotely take the place of a reverb pedal. Maybe I was expecting too much from the reverb, but it's nice to have when playing clean, just bluesing it up. And, it's a lot bigger sized than I expected. It's not a small compact shoebox amp, and it's (barely) manageable for transportation duties. I wouldn't want it any bigger or heavier, but hey, there you go!

Well Worth the $$$

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I got back into playing about 2 years ago after a 10 year layoff. I purchased a used Crate 65W combo because I wasn't sure if I would stay with playing again. After two years I proved to myself that I did love playing and would not stop again. I started looking for a small tube amp because I craved the tube sound. I played most, if not all, the low wattage heads and combo's out there. Two weeks ago, I walked into a GC and they had this "used" 20W Jet City combo. I didn't plan on making an amp purchase that day but quickly changed my mind. This thing beat every other head and combo I had played. The only one I may have purchased instead is the Vox Night Train. The Jet City offers a fantastic tube sound for an almost obscenely low price. I can't think of another amp in it's class that can stand up to it. It's made like a tank and sounds fantastic. I can't recommend this amp enough. It's single channel tube heaven that won't damage your bank account.

Tone Monster

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

If you're a fan of slightly gritty, warm and powerful tone, then you will love this Amp. Nothing fancy, just pure simplicity. When played without any pedals, you'll quickly see how finger pressure + pick attack are clearly transmitted via this Amp. The JCA2112RC is very sensitive to these inputs, and it's amazing how much more you can get out of your sound, when you have such a sensitive amp - it really allows your creativity to tap into new areas you didn't know existed. FYI, it is a BIG BOX COMBO AMP. Compared to my buddy's Fender Blues Jr., its almost twice as big. Not as portable as I expected. So take that into consideration when you plan on lugging it's chunky 36lbs from place to place. I recently sold this Amp to a friend, since I prefer the portablility of JCA's J20H head - purely for convenience. I can put a cabinet anywhere, but the JCA's tone is coming with me. Either the J20H or the JCA2112RC are identical tonewise, and both are WINNERS!

Awesome AMP

from London, Kentucky

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA2112RC 20W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've owned this beauty for threes months and I absolutely love it! I use to own a Peavey 212 Classic 50 and this baby out performs it anyday of the week. It's a very simple but versitle AMP. Although the AMP only has one channel, the tones this AMP produces are variable and astonishing. The cleans are crystal clear and when you crank up the gain you get a great distortion. The cabinet is well built with thick multiply hardwood, and the tolex is durable. All controls are easily adusted and well marked. The AMP is super heavy like most larger tube amps and is easily transported. I also love the blue on black design. This amp is very loud for its size and would be great for any venue. I have played venues that encompasses an area equivalent to 0.5 an acre in size and this baby can really throw it out without having to mic. However, if you need more volume you can always mic it like most professional artists perfer. I love this product and would recommend it to anyone.
