I've had my JCA20H for about a month now, and I've been waiting to get some JJ tubes to throw in it before I review, but decided it would be better to do it with the stock amp. A lot of players complain about the lack of clean headroom, and if you want a super super loud clean then this might not suit you. Despite the lack of headroom, I must say that the clean sound is great. I really couldn't be happier with it. On the neck pickup it is bassey and punchy and perfectly compressed in the highs. The crunch and lead is the real reason you buy this amp though. There is not a bad sound in the amp(except maybe when you run the presence above noon), and it will do everything up to hard rock. My favorite setting is gain about 2:30 and master at 12:00. This gives you enough gain for solos, but still requires you to "dig in," giving you a super expressive feel but with enough gain to not feel like it is lacking. It responds fantastically to difference in pick attack. It also distorts very naturally... meaning lower notes distort first and more than higher notes. This amp sounds best with master above 1:00. With a 2x12 cab you can feel the bass in your chest, which is awesome! All and all I love this amp. Soldano did an amazing job with the quality of the components and the sound. Everything you dream about when buying a tube amp the JCA20H does well. I did a lot of research before choosing a low watt all tube amp, and I believe that this is the best bang for the buck, and sounds better than most amps twice as much. Even cranked the JCA20H is quiet. I never even run a noise gate. Cleans up great when you roll the volume down. Live I only put a Electro Harmonix Power Boost and a Crybaby Wah in front. Run it crunchy, boost for solo, roll down the volume for clean. Sounds great. I don't miss having an effects loop at all. I prefer having an all tube signal path than trying to run a loop. I prefer no loop instead of a "series" style loop, a huge potential tone sucker. Those are my thoughts. My review sounds pretty "rave," but I figure to give credit where credit is do. I think Jet City is a great company. On their facebook you can find the whole story of the JCA20H from design to production. I also recommend checking out their facebook to see the new baffles they are coming out with for these. They look amazing. Buy it and don't look back!

I bought this amp and played the heck out of it. It had good tone and, for a real tube amp, it was easy to sneak into the family budget. I got together with an old friend, to play and reminisce. and he brought along an amp from a manufacturer I'd never heard of. It was a TAF14R from Tube Amp Factory. My amp put out a little more volume, but we actually had to measure it in order to tell. Besides, when have you ever had good reason for cranking it up to 11? The sound quality was the REAL difference. I don't know how they're making this amp weigh so little, but put out so much high quality sound. I looked for one on the used market, but they're not there. As it turns out, a new TAF is a little less expensive than the JC. If you look them up on line and call them, you can talk to the guy who will build the amp and, if you buy one, he will sign it for you as well. These little amps are going to be a big deal when the rest of the country finds out about them.

An Affordable Tiny Terror

By Garrett Zimmerman

from Cincinnati, OH

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

As Im writing this review I am in the studio recording and using the JCA20H. I was originally in a metal band and loved the distortion on this head. But that band has broken up and I have since joined a more folk rock band as their bassist so I haven't touched this head in months. Today I decided to bring it to recording with my new band just incase someone needed it. As it turns out we did and I just listened to two different recordings (clean tone) one using a Tiny Terror and the other with the JCA20H. The tones are almost Identical. The only difference is the JCA20H is slightly less bright by an almost unnoticeable level. Literally we bled the two different recordings together and could barley notice the difference if at all. Im here to say that this head is amazing and is by far unbeatable for the price. Only drawback is that it only has one channel but beyond that its nothing short of perfection and by far the best bang for the buck.

Lots of Bang for the Bucks

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

The controls on this head are easy to use ,you dont have to learn how to play the amp .Just turn it up and go could not be easer .If you want real clean turn the gain down,if you went dirty turn the gain up .It could use a onboard reverb but that would make it cost more.I got a stomp box for reverb anyway.O did I say its loud too, good for jammin, small clubs ,real quiet for recording and that kinda stuff . Looks well built good for the long haul.

It could get better?

By Bill

from Lake Alfred, Fl

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

1st off I also have a fender blues JR. which is an amazing amp. I bought the JCA20 head over a month ago, traded in my Marshall MG100 head kept the cab and what a great match sounds rich and full. For the 1st couple weeks played it dry then hooked up my line 6 X3 live to it and was blown away. The blues Jr never got these sounds. This head is very versatile up to classic rock without pedals. To think this has stock tubes and the speakers in the cab can still be upgraded is unreal. The tones you can get with this without spending a fortune on a cab makes it an exceptional value, I haven't tried egnator or blackstar but I challenge you to find a better sound for less. Finally I want to give kudos to the staff at Lakeland G.C always helpful and professional Thanks!.

Small Amp Big Sound

By Jesus M

from Pompano Beach FL

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

For the given price you really cant ask much from this amp, but when u plug it in all you can really say is WOW.... i have this head running thru a Marshall MG 412 Cab, the tone to me is very Randy Rhoads like, so if your in a cover band looking for the Crazy Train sound buy this amp, but for me its not exactly my kind of tone... yet, the amp offers alot of treble, especially when i run my Epi LP with EMGs thru an SD-1 into it. altough i have been reading around and it seems to me that the main cause of this is the tubes, so i plan to chage those asap, the amp looks pretty simple, simple knobs the pre amp, bass mids treb master and presence, with the presense, if you turn it it past three your really setting your ears up for pain.. its seems to me this little amp has a lot of potential, it really depends on how you look at it and what you plan to do with it, but again given the price theres really not much u can complain about, its simple things one has to fix before you can like it, but its still a great amp

What a Steal!

By Nicholas

from Redlands, CA

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

ok, I'm not the type of person to sit and write a review on gear... Honestly the second I think of how much I like whatever it is I've got, I go into the next room and play it. I played this head about a month ago and could not stop thinking about it, so this weekend I finally went and picked one up. Man am I glad I did, this is honestly the best 250 bucks I have spent on gear. I mean I just picked up a Boss DD20 and that thing nearly cost the same price as this head! The gain on it is great and for the price you can't go wrong. It's not going to replace my Orange, but for jamming, practices heck I'd even gig with it, it gets the job done and it does it WELL! I'm still wondering why the cost is so low, even if it is made in China who cares? It's a tone monster! People are going to hate on it because it costs $250 and not $2500. Soldano and the guys at Jet City have hit a homerun with their line of amps, I'm now thinking of getting the 50watt head or the even 100 watt head and who knows, maybe one of those will replace my Orange AD30 as my main amp!

Perfect.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

i got this amp and the matching cab (jca12s) just after christmas and it is simply amazing. it has a very unique sound, with great clean tones and amazing overdrive. the eq section is very usable, and makes this amp extremely versatile. the 20 watt power rating makes it quiet enough for bedroom use with a 112 cabinet, but it's easily loud enough for a small club or band practice with a 412. the amp is solidly constructed, and pretty light for its size. i definitely reccommend it.

unbelievable amp, unbelievable price

By jc

from terre haute, IN

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

i bought this after my ac30 was struck by lightning and rendered useless. i needed an amp, and quick, so i bought this head to perch atop my 5150 cabinet. i figured it'd be good enough to get me through til tax time when i'd buy a bigger, better head, but i've grown so attached to this amp that i don't even want to replace it. twenty watts is probably louder than you think, and most if not all of the venues i play at mic guitar cabs- thus rendering a 100 watt head to be overkill anyway. i get to crank this baby up loud to get some serious power tube overdrive that sounds absolutely killer. sometimes i turn this thing on just to bang out a couple of chords (way too loud for my neighborhood) just so i can bask in the tone... its only drawbacks are lack of multiple channels and lack of an effects loop, but at this price point i'm not complaining about it. i like this amp as much as my old amp, which cost many times as much. i kind of wish this amp wouldn't get popular so i could keep it as my secret weapon...

SWEET!!!!!

By Jackster

from Vidor Texas

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have waited to write my review because I wanted to put some different tubes in it and see if there was any difference in the tone. I looked for quite a while before I bought some tubes, and I beleave that I got some good tubes. I went with the Ruby tubes all the way they are the same tubes that Santana uses in his amp. At first when I turned it on there was tube breakup right away. After about an hour the tube's settled down and got very warm sounding. The EQ was more responcive and the presence was also quite a bit more responcive. It did sound better with new tubes the stock tubes are very cheep I guess they had to cut some cost some where to keep the price down. Anyway I'm very happy with the amp I have it setting on top of a half stack with 4 12's at 16 olms. I havent had a chance to crank yet with the new tubes my old lady would have a fit , you guys know what I'm talking about. But sooner or later she will have to go out and then watch out baby cause it's on then loud and proud. I have a Fender Strat Plus with Samarian Cobalt Pickups that I installed it rocks ,and the I have a Gibson SG it has some real attitude. I recently got a Fender Thin line Telecaster its got one of the best necks that I have ever held, and they sound amazing through this JET CITY AMP 20 watts of thunder just amazing I couldn't be more happy than I am with this little amp.
