Jet City Amplification JetStream 12 ISO 1x12 Isolation Guitar Speaker Cabinet (430430)
Availability:

Jet City's isolation cab is a great solution for recording, controlling stage volume, and a variety of other sound applications.

Wanna crank your tube amp in a home recording environment? Need to manage your stage volume and feed the mains in a club? Jet City turned to its allies at Eminence Speaker for expertise in creating the JetStream 12 guitar speaker. Eminence designed the isolation cabinet to exact specifications, and handled the super-smart stuff in the acoustic design too. Then it was loaded with a custom Eminence Jet City 12? driver.

For recording, the Jet City JetStream cabinet's isolation lets you record your amp full out, reflecting your true tone without waking the neighbors or inviting visits from the cops.

Plug your tube amp into the JetStream speaker input, and set up your amp tones—go ahead and turn it up. Clip in your favorite guitar-recording mic and position it how you prefer. Then close up the JetStream guitar speaker's front door, greatly reducing the sound level in the room.

After a week of messing with this, I'm generally pretty satisfied with it, save for a few issues that may be deal breakers for some. The noise reduction is great, and at mid to low (that is to say 1-5 on my Valveking 112) it's quiet enough to not be a bother to others in the house. (being right next to it is like hearing a loud TV through a wall.) Past that, it's bearable, but it's got a little bit of volume and the lower frequencies like to vibrate the floor that would probably not do well with roommates or other tenants in an apartment. The mic jack on the back put out boatloads of undesirable noise, making clean recordings impossible. The gooseneck is a tad sketchy too, perhaps too long. I removed the mic jack and just fished the mic cable through the hole. The sound dampening seems to be the same, and I can now fit two microphone's inside. Provided I had two fixtures, that is. (Two cables fit through the hole.) Prevents all (reasonable) outside noise from bleeding into the mic, too, which is fantastic for recording in rooms with a lot of through traffic, talking, or pets. I'm fairly inexperienced with things other than amp sims, but I find the speaker to be well enough. The recordings I'm getting out of this far surpass anything I've done in the past with simulators. I certainly think it's worth the price, and as such it's worth considering if you're in the market for an isolation cab. Even with it's flaws, I am beyond happy with it, finally being able to get decent recordings out of my amps without fear of waking the neighborhood. Between the isolation (both in and out of the box) and it's sturdy build quality, I think this is a good place to go for a reasonably priced isolation cab.

  • essential piece of gear for home studios

Let me first say that there is a lot of conflicting information floating around out there with regards to specs. This does not have a USB connection on it, this was a feature Jet City displayed at NAMM, but have since scrapped. I was amused when I read a review of the ISO Cab from another site and the reviewer was discussing the pros and cons of having a USB connection on his...I wonder if he even knows what one would look like...on to the review. If you need to record guitars at home and you are concerned about disturbing the neighbors or family members, buy this! If you want to make sure your guitar is the only thing your microphone is picking up, buy this! Eminence and Jet City did an amazing job capturing the resonance and air/speaker interaction that you would get out of a nice 4x12. Clip in your favorite mic, position it and go. A couple of things to consider, 1. the speaker is rated for 70 watts which means you do not need to crank your amp to get good sounds out of this. 2. the gooseneck is absurdly long, do yourself a favor and order a 6" gooseneck when you order this, it's like $1.99 on here. The sound reduction you get from this is ridiculous! With the door closed and my amp set to 12:00 I can have a conversation at normal speaking volume, but open that door up and you will hear just how much this things does its job. The speaker inside is a very nice custom designed Eminence and it sounds good for everything I throw at it (clean, rock, metal, death metal, whatever). I really wasn't sure what to expect out of this thing, but when it arrived I knew within 5 minutes it was going to be an essential piece in my home studio. Like all the other Jet City products I own the fit and finish is outstanding, solidly built and an insane value. I hate doing reviews, but I feel the need to share my experience with this product in the hopes that anyone who is on the fence about getting one will take the plunge...I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
