I bought a Silvertone Twin Twelve 1484 and it had a pair of Celestion Vintage 30's which were 16 ohms each. First off they were the wrong load for the amp and second they made it ultra heavy. After I had these installed I was able to turn the amp up and get tube saturation. They are bright and clear in the mid range, not too bassy.
Excellent speakers. Great tone for my Fender Bassman 2 x 12 speaker box, driven by Bandmaster amp.
Over 35 yrs. of playing time, I had become quite tired of the "covered with a wet blanket" tone coming out of most modern mass produced speakers. I mostly play Blues with some Country & Classic rock now, and bought the JENSEN C12Q 35w "Vintage Series" ceramic magnet speaker to attempt to get the "wide open" sound that mid-late '60s Fender amps had from my recording amp. This speaker does this, and more....I play it through a "Botique" all tube head, and the lows are nice & tight, the mids actually SING, and the highs are beyond bright......"explosive" is the best description. My amp now sounds so much like a '66 Deluxe Twin, that I just can't believe it's not. I'm definitely buying more of these speakers soon, for my larger amps, because the quality (made in Italy NOT China) is top notch, and Guitar Centers "standard" shipping had it at my door in 4 days........GOOD JOB GC! Buy the Jensen "Vintage Ceramic" speakers, you'll never look back !
I dropped this speaker into an old Fender tube amp. The original Fender speaker was very heavy, so this cut several pounds off of the overall weight of the amp. I've only been playing through it for a couple of weeks, and it sounds better each time I play through it. I'm sure it will continue to sound better as it gets broken in. Good price too!
