Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

The following review is not meant to reflect on Musicians Friend as they are top notch.

First I would like to say that this is a lower end guitar and expectations were not super high to begin with. This is the second guitar that I have had my hands on which looks like a elementary school student did the finish work, I'm talking terrible. Painted over dirt/debris, total of 4 dents on the fretboard, cuts in the neck trim, neck trim shaved down with a carpet knife, knobs falling off, paint coming off the bridge and to top it all off the 24th fret not finished/leveled/dressed.

The guitar plays awesome and if Jackson would knock four hundred off of this guitar it would be worth it. The trem is junk and the pickups are junk. If you don't care about the oh so many flaws and don't mind changing the pickups and the trem then it would be a mighty fine guitar in terms of playability.

I wrote Jackson (Fender) to let them know about their quality control issues and expected an answer along the lines of " We will look into that ASAP" or "We will get to the bottom of this". The answer i got after he agreed that the pictures i sent to him were of terrible workman ship, " Buy a custom shop" and " Or keep trying until you get a guitar that suites your expectations. All i can say is the bloodline is dead. Dave Mustaine if you are listening Jackson needs you more than ever. Fender if you are listening sell it to Dave as you do not deserve it. Fender Squire is of better quality than this guitar. Go with an ESP/LTD if this is your price range, my ec1000 is near flawless

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

Condition two blemish was damage on the fretboard. Hasn't affected playing so I can't complain. But the factory shipped the wrong guitar the first time. I feel like that's a little ridiculous, especially seeing as how they called me two days after I ordered it to confirm my shipping address. You couldn't confirm the actual guitar?

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

I bought this axe in 2014 and it was my first neck-through guitar. After playing novice jackson guitars for 7 years this was a big upgrade for me. The first issue i had outta the box was setting the floyd rose but it was a quick and easy fix after watching some online tutorials. The first thing I noticed was the amount of sustaine this axe was giving. Every note was ringing for days compared to my old string through jackson JS series. I own a line 6 flextone III amp and it sounds like it's stage ready. The Duncan Design stock pickups are decent hence why I only gave it a 4 star rating but I prefer a little extra output on my gear so I upgraded the neck to an EMG H4 passive pickup and I tell you this baby screams Bloody Murder on my non-tube amp. The Floyd Rose is perfect for getting those high pitch piggy squeals. I've yet to purchase a full tube head amp but i can only imagine the difference in sound quality this beast will produce. The neck profile in this axe is insane. It was clearly made for shred. In a nutshell this guitar is perfect for all styles of Rock and Blues. My Child's college fund well spent.

A Great Buy for the Price...

        By Roland

        from San Antonio, TX.

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

Friends, I own 1 vintage Jackson Soloist (1984) and 3 Charvel Model 6's (1989, 1990, 1991), thus I am very aware of what this Jackson SLX guitar has to live up too. Being made in India places a negative stamp on it, but I must assure you, pound for pound this guitar delivers on a dime. The only draw backs are (1) the neck pick up used and a 3 blade pick up selector, AND (2) a Floyd Rose special tremolo system. The bridge pick up is fine, plenty of heavy chunk served up, BUT the neck pick up is useless for softer stuff. I'll be dropping in a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pick up this week, as well as a 5 way selector switch to split the coils and give it the sound of my Jackson & Charvel's. The Floyd Rose special??? What's that? We'll its not the primo but I don't think I'm gonna' mess with it as it works okay. But the guitar it's self is PRIMO. It feels great, its construction is great, its solid and is everything I've hoped it would be. This is going to remain in my collection of axes forever. If you have any hesitations about this guitar, get rid of them. A little investment in 1 new pick up and a 5 way blade selector switch is the only thing this puppy would ever need as an upgrade. Happy Jammin!

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

I ordered this guitar on December 21st and got it on the 24th. A lot sooner than I expected! The guitar has a great feel to it. It screams with tone and holds tune pretty well with the Floyd Rose tremolo. This by far the best guitar I've had in a awhile. I've had Srats, Ibanez, and Epiphone guitars and this one beats them all hands down. The only thing that I can call negative on this was I wanted the white version but that was on back order till January so I got the black instead. Still looks great in the black. Excellent guitar for the price.

            Pickups=Problem

            By Robert Nicoletti

            from Vancleave, MS

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

Well, I got this Jackson shipped to my store and It was absolutely stunning. I took it home and I tried it out. I must sat for about an hour trying to figure out the problem with the pickups. They are weak. Duncan-Designed doesen't mean Seymour-Duncan. I drive into a Fender Princeton Chorus 125w and I have got to say that the pickups were sooo weak. I have an Ibanez RG with stock G7 and G8 pickups and they screamed. I honestly don't know what the problem with Jackson Pickups are. They never cut through the mix. I have to use a pedal to get the sound that I wanted. I never used a pedal for my Ibanez(Same Amp). I had a Jackson Rhoads and the pickups were the same only I didn't have the pedal at the time, It did the same thing. And by the way, the pedal was a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone. It works great, but I like the Amp sound too, just not with these pickups. I'm going to get some Seymour Duncan's and see if I can't fix the problem, but I needed to tell you guys before you bought the product and became dissapointed. And by the way, you will have no issues with the Floyd. It is amazing. When I dive and squeal, I can come back in and do a clean song with chords and have no tuning issues. I don't have to retune when I dive either. So, be ready to have some issues when you buy the guitar, unless you have one of those Line 6 Spider 4 amps, or a Peavey Vyper, because they're mainly for Metal, I play all kinds. Later.

            Go green

            By michael garrido

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

I'll keep this short since I agree whole heartedly with the previous reviewer. I'll just add that I have several MIJ Jacksons. The workmanship on the made in India ones is on a par with the Japanese. I got the Kawasabi green which pairs up with my surf green strat. My example had a very small chip in the paint on the lower bout and some scuffs on the end of the headstock. I took a look under the cover plates and the wiring is neatly routed and bundled. Solder joints are clean and solid. Equal to newer MIJ ones.I have a probably 2005ish MIJ DK2 were the cavity looked like a rats nest. The tremolo springs on my example had a lot of tension on them. So it took some fiddling when I put new strings on. These guitars are not just good for the money- there good guitars. I just wish they had a few more finish options.
