Being a long time Jackson enthusiast I bought this guitar about three years ago and it's been my main guitar ever since. This guitar is built for players that like to play fast and hard. The quality parallels the USA soloist and it weighs a bit less. Mine came with stock EMG-HZ's and the thing screams. One of the best guitar purchases I've ever made.

I bought this model with the active pickups. The sound was too dirty and I play nothing but metal. Once I switched to the passives it was 100% better.

Excellent Guitar for the $$ straight out of the bo

By John-t46T4

from Wiesbaden Germany

I just got this guitar delivered a couple days ago. First the good. It was set up excellently straight from the factory. I literally had to do nothing to this guitar but tune it up and plug it in. The finish is beautiful and thick. The neck thru body feels wonderful as you access the upper frets. Although this is advertised as a lightweight guitar, it feels about the same as your average strat. Not nearly as heavy as a LP, but average. The body is nice and thin, and feels great to play standing up. The bad. This guitar gets shipped in a cardboard box. Normally for a guitar in this price range I would expect a case, I suppose I should learn to read more carefully. The 2 bad parts on the guitar are;1) The volume pot is very loose and required tightening the nut inside the body of the guitar.2) There is a large drop of fretboard finish on the fretboard around the 3rd fret. This does not affect playability at all, but is unsightly and should have been caught by QAQC at the factory.Overall I am highly satisfied with this shredtastic axe and recommend it to anyone wanting a mid range guitar that plays like it's 2-3 thousand Dollar counterparts.

My Baby

By Wilson

from Toledo, OH

First I have to comment that I saw another review saying that if you like heavy guitars to buy this one because it is heavy. I would like to state that the SL in SLSMG stands for super-light. This baby weighs nothing. I got this guitar about 4 years ago when it came equipped with EMG-HZ's. I wish I would have been able to have the 81 and 85 but take what you can get right? I did get it for about half of what it is selling for here anyway. This baby has the fastest fretboard of any guitar I have ever touched. Since I upgraded to a pair of hot rodded seymour duncan's (yes I know odd choice for such a metal oriented guitar) the guitar just sings. Tuning machines are perfect in my opinion. They came a little loose, but you can tighten the tension on them to your liking. The satin finish is beautiful and stays pristine through years of hard play. The ebony fretboard is incredibly smooth, although I recently noticed 3 small (1/4" cracks in it up near the 18th fret. They have not hurt the sound or playability at all but still mad me sad. Make sure to get a fitted case for this as it is so thin.

Kick A** Guitar

By JacksonMan-YzS2K

from Cali

So I've been playing for 5 years and a pretty solid 2 years and I'm pushing the limits with my shredding and death metal. Before this guitar I had a Les Paul Studio. This guitar kicks the Les Paul's a** without even trying and supposedly Les Pauls are "the best". The neck is rediculously perfect sized for shredding or for any playing IMO, the neck is made of beautiful ebony that you almost never find on guitar so low prices, the newere model SLSMG's come with the Active EMG pickups that scream and sound great for metal. The body rests nicely for playing and is incredibly light (but not too light! just right) Nice Tuno-o-matic bridge and very nice neck through design. Those are basically all the main essentials needed for a guitar that plays well. Not only that but it looks sexy and metal as all hell. Because I plan on keeping this guitar forever because it's that nice I've already ordered new tuning machines which I thought were a little cheap. Later I will probably install some nicer volume pots. If you're looking for a metal guitar just buy this one, just do it, I went searching comparing metal guitars for like 2 weeks non-stop and this is it for a guitar in the thousand dollar range. I can shred and I know what I'm talking about so unless you wanna wammy, trust me and get this guitar, but honestly, would you rather wammy your notes or be able to tune your guitar? That's basically the trade off. BUY THIS! I already named mine Zoey <3

Alright, too heavy

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

If you like Heavy guitars this one is for you. The thru neck design with mohogany body, and neck makes this thing heavy. The neck is sort of skinny, but not like an ibanez. The EMG-HZ pickups, in my opinion, aeren't a very good combo in this guitar. I think its a let down, but go for it if you want to spend the money, nd be disapointed when an ibanez will do you a lot better.

Jackson SLSMG is all you need!

By John Hate Ramos

from Houston,Tx

Yes, this is the guitar you want if you like shredding, moshing, country pickin, jazz fusioning, blues jammin or just being a lazy noodler and still wanting to sound good with ease!I own bout 3 USA Jackson guitars and a Custom Shop Jackson also, but when it is time to hit the road the SLSMG is what I rely on the most. This guitar has been knocked over, dropped, had beer spilt on it several times and anything else you can imagine but has never been damaged through it all and has always kept its great sound and surprisingly has never aquired any cosmetic damage!Get one,it is all you'll need in an affordable guitar!

Sounds Amazing

By Mike Closs

from In my house

This gutiar is amazing, its very light, it sounds very nice. When you drop tune it to C, it has a very heavy crunch. I used this at the local music store with a small 50 watt marshall amp. It sounded nice. The solos i should say would be astounding on this guitar. The only bad thing about this guitar is the knob below the bridge pick up. It gets in the way alot. I dont like it, i would have to say that is the only flaw to this beauty.

SLSMG! Get the best *&^$ the rest!

By Matt-kg6i1

from St Louis

I bought this guitar a couple months ago and i love it! The neck is super fast, the active EMGs scream, but also sound pretty good clean (i either switch to the 85 or to both). The 85 is great for solos and sweeping while the 81 is great for riffing. I usually don't like headstocks that don't have all the keys on one side but this one looks really good. It stays in tune like a champ with any tuning i try. The guitar is also super light and thin, really easy on your shoulder. The only thing i was a little sad about is an overall volume knob instead of two separate, but no big deal. This is the guitar for you!

shred machine

By j0sh_d

from idaho

Bought this guitar last year and love it. Play metal on it, play clean on it, it will sound good. The weight of this guitar is a big advantage especially if you gig or play a ton. One of the frets from the factory was a little high, had to pay 25 bucks to fix that but other than that it has had no troubles. If you are looking for a quality instrument that is crafted like some of the higher end hand made american models, look no further. I was impressed when I saw the quality of this instrument.

Own it, love it

This is metal machine. Smooth, fast neck. The bridge is fully adjustable. It stays in tune like a champ and it has never given me any trouble. Also, It sounds great, what more could you ask for?

Metal Machine

By sweeper107

This guitar is perfect for me. The EMG active PUs scream with authority, but can be modulated via guitar volume knob to purr like kittens. The gloss black finish is beautiful and mirror-like. The Ivoroid binding is very well done and contrasts the jet black ebony fretboard nicely. I love the string through body set-up b/c it is much easier to palm mute than a Floyd Rose and setting up the intonation is a snap. The neck-thru construction also allows supreme access to the upper frets and sustain goes on for hours. The neck is thin, but not overly done and is very very fast. Overall, this guitar rocks. It is very close to American quality for nearly half the price. Honestly, I haven't touched any of my fenders since I got this SLSMG. If you love Metal, buy it.
