Disappointed

About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Jackson SLATXMGQ3-6 Soloist X Series Quilt Maple Top Electric Guitar:

I bought a SLATHXMG3-6 on June 1,2016 and I'm very happy with this guitar and I wanted to upgrade to the SLATXMGQ3-6 with tremolo which I ordered online & received June 8 & returned June 9. I gave up after 2 hours of retuning it because it kept going flat because the factory apparently doesn't adjust the tension on the tremolo & expect the consumer to spend additional money to have it set up. That isn't going to happen after over 40 years of experience.

Comments about Jackson SLATXMGQ3-6 Soloist X Series Quilt Maple Top Electric Guitar:

When I started looking for my next guitar, my gotta-haves were pretty basic: Floyd Rose tremolo, and EMG active pickups. Turns out those things are a little less common than I would think.

For one thing, people seem to steer clear of floating tremolos these days. As far as I can tell, it's because they don't know how to set them up properly, or to play an instrument with one, even when it is set up properly. I know I've never seen a guitar in a guitar store with a properly set-up tremolo, let alone one that's in tune. And the tech who set mine up when I bought it blew chunks. Some things you just have to do yourself.

For another thing, people seem to be enamored of this-or-that pickups with this-or-that combination of magnets and windings. To me, EMGs are light years ahead of all that nonsense. You get a pure, sweet, strong signal, no noise, no microphoning, no string tug, no bull. And best of all, you can bend a string from one side of the fingerboard to the other and never hear the slightest variation in signal strength. What's not to love?

So this guitar has both of those things. And a through-the-body neck. And 24 jumbo frets. It also has (to my liking) only one volume knob and one tone knob, and an "AT" head stock with one very nice feature: The strings go straight through the locking nut with zero lateral angle. Oh, and it has a few nice cosmetics: a quilted maple top and piranha tooth fret markers.

The only other guitar I seriously considered was an ESP. It had the Floyd Rose and the EMGs, but here's the thing: When I evaluate a guitar, I listen to what it sounds like unplugged. I'll touch one of my teeth to the body and strum it, just to hear the raw sound, before the pickups even get it. Sorry, ESP.

Now don't get me wrong, this guitar has its flaws, as do all. I spent hours setting this guitar up to my liking. But in the end, I had the best guitar I've ever had. Buy one, if you can still find one.

Comments about Jackson SLATXMGQ3-6 Soloist X Series Quilt Maple Top Electric Guitar:

This guitar since i got it three months ago has been my what I judge the other guitars in my collection too. I do have a Jap warrior Blue Burst from 1994 and it has one emg 81 in the bridge and its wired with a duncan design in the neck that will be out soon and a 85 put in. I just love the high output of these pickups in this guitar quality is great as well my favorite Jackson I have ever owned and by far the best in my collection currently.
