      Comments about Jackson JS10 Dinky:

This is a good well balanced budget guitar. I play a top class Strat but needed something cheap for playing metal. The neck is phenomenal. Who cares about the hardware and electronics (easily replaceable). The pups are actually very nice and powerful. Anyone who says you can't gig this is vain. If you know how to maintain any guitar u can gig it. Plus who wants to take a $1000 plus guitar to some dive!

A Better Guitar than the Reviews Suggest

        Comments about Jackson JS10 Dinky:

I took a leap and ordered one sight unseen through guitarcenter.com. At this price point, you get what you pay for, but it's a much better guitar than the other reviews suggest. Can't speak for all of them, but the one delivered to me has a lot of tonal versatility for a double-humbucker metal-oriented guitar. Switch to the neck pickup, roll off the tone, and you've got a warm, jazz-like sound. Over to the bridge, roll on the tone, and it crunches like you'd expect a Jackson to crunch. Not superlative sound, and not necessarily up to the standards of more expensive guitars, but surprisingly good, especially considering the price point.

The neck is exceptionally fast, and is particularly suited to players with smaller hands. The electronics are solid, the pickups are actually quite good, and the tuners are reasonably reliable. The only complaints I have are the usual ones you'd have for an entry-level guitar: the frets are rough on the edges, and the plastic nut is downright sharp and edged (tough to catch your fingers on during fast runs).

Bottom Line is that this guitar, especially at +/- $100 is a perfectly good starter instrument or backup guitar. Other reviewers' issues might be a sign of inconsistent QC, but my guitar was fine out of the box. If you're looking for a starter metal machine with the option for versatility, this one truly surprised me. Perfect? Definitely not. Bang for the buck? Definitely.

            Comments about Jackson JS10 Dinky:

The employee helping me went to try on the whammy bar to make sure it was the right fit. Just putting tension on the tremolo bridge popped the spring on the high G. Figured I could fix it at home. COULD NOT get the fret buzz to go away on the high G string. Took it back the same day. Not worth it when you can get a quality ready to play guitar for a few bucks more from Ibanez. Sure could get a luthier to fix it... but that's like buying a new car that comes already broken... would expect issues from a used guitar... not one fresh out of the box.

Nice Finnish, nothing else nice to say. horrible factory set up. Fret buzz truss rod in need of attention, will not hold tune if you touch whammy bar. Don't buy unless you know how to set up a guitar or are a luthier.

                Comments about Jackson JS10 Dinky:

Great starter guitar! Inexpensive & affordable. Great tones, especially at the middle and neck pickup selections. The only con was some fret buzzing and that's normally from the neck being really flat. A little truss rod adjustment and the right gauge strings should take care of that. Otherwise the guitar is solid and feels good during playing. Watch out for the pickups, their high output is "hot"!
