Very Nice Instrument

By Pete Smothers

from Woodstock, IL

Comments about Jackson DK2MQ Dinky Quilt Top Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar mainly due to the availability of the maple neck. This is the second Jackson I have purchased with this neck. It is fast, responsive and comfortable to play. The finish on this guitar is excellent (I got the Transparent Black). The quality is what you would expect from higher end Jackson instruments. It plays well at all volumes and will make a nice addition to the gig arsenal.

Absolute top-notch guitar for the money

By Bart

Comments about Jackson DK2MQ Dinky Quilt Top Electric Guitar:

In my search for a guitar that does equally well handling shred duties AND jazz/funk/blues sounds, I originally ordered the Greg Howe Laguna model from Guitar Center. After trying it for a couple of hours, I returned it for various reasons and did more research...which led me to stumble across this absolute gem of a guitar. This is a seriously versatile guitar. PICKUPS: The 5-way pickup selector contributes greatly to its ability to handle a diversity of styles. In full humbucker settings, the Seymour Duncan pickups deliver delicious shred sounds rich in sustain and harmonics. The single coil settings provide very good strat-style sounds for playing blues and funk, especially position 2. (outer coil of the neck pickup) Either setting of the neck pickup delivers a pretty solid jazz sound as well. Obviously it doesn't sound like a 335, but for a guitar with full shred capabilities, it has a very good jazz sound NECK: The action was PERFECT right out of the box. Buttery smooth, plays like a dream. And the maple fretboard enhances the upper harmonics, working with the pickups to provide rich Satriani-esque sustain sounds as well as gorgeous blues sounds. TREMOLO: Perfect Floyd Rose performance. Stays in tune great, and the bar stays tight in position if you tighten it enough. (I hate trems on which the bar flops around all of the time) Also notable is that Jackson includes a little allen wrench holder attached to the back of the headstock, which makes adjusting the nut super-convenient for a double locking system. DESIGN: This is one absolutely GORGEOUS guitar. I got the chlorine burst, which looks incredible over the quilted maple. My fiance (a talented visionary artist) commented that the finish feels like staring into the clear blue sea. If you're looking for a straight-up metal/shred guitar, this will absolutely fulfill your needs, and look amazing doing it. But the true depth of this guitar lies in its ability to handle multiple styles with differing sound needs. A very inspiring instrument. If you're on the fence, buy it. You will be happy with your decision.
