As reviewed by Steve Smith on 12/9/2013

First of all, I am biased, as I am a longtime Jackson player. I love Jacksons because they are basically playable right out of the box, with very few adjustments needed. That, and the mid-priced guitars are simply awesome. Since I am not enough an expert to justify the purchase of a $1000+ guitar, I have been pleased with guitars in this range. This guitar was no exception. Specific to this guitar, the first thing I noticed was the light feel and playability. The neck is fast and comfortable. I actually checked Jackson's website to be sure it was a mahogany body (it was), it is just that light. The EMGs growl and scream (as one would expect from the 81/85 combination). Tone in the neck position was surprisingly fat for the 81- I generally use Seymours but have an LP with EMGs, and the 81 is not as thick on that guitar. Anyhow, the 85 screams like it should. The finish was flawless. The electronics were tight and responsive, kind of a big deal when you have active pickups without dedicated volume. Right out of the package, this became my main guitar. I have two other Soloists and a Dinky, so I have to give this guitar credit for moving the others to the bottom of the pile. I ran it through a Marshall JVM210 at (at high and lower gain setting)s and a Randall RT100 at the highest gain setting, and was impressed with the guitar's tone and clarity on both. Simply, if you play anything from hard rock to thrash metal, I found this to be an awesome axe, whether you are a beginner or have been playing for years. Regardless of your skill level, prepare to shred faces with this beast. BUY IT NOW!!
