If subtle and tasteful is your thing—you'd better move on.

The Jackson KE3 Kelly Electric Guitar has an edgy body design and shark fin inlays that make a bold statement with looks alone. But this rocker is a sonic flamethrower too. Its sculpted edges make it comfortable to play and the overall balance of the instrument is excellent. It is powered by genuine Seymour Duncan humbucker pickups: a Jazz SH2N at the neck and a JB TB4 at the bridge for lots of firepower and sustain. The JT580LP tremolo lets you bend and twist notes to the max while staying in tune. The Jackson Kelly also has an alder body for plenty of warm, chunky tone; a rock maple neck with a bound compound-radius maple fretboard; and a scalloped heel, which means uninhibited access to the upper frets.

Jackson's compound-radius fingerboard curves more dramatically at the nut (12") for easy chording and flattens out (16") as it approaches the neck joint for low-action bends without fretting out. With a more relaxed hand, you'll play better!

  • Metal guitar suitable for almost everything

As reviewed by Alex on 8/19/2009

I got this guitar in the skull finish for Christmas this year and I've stuck by it ever since. this guitar gives a full thick sound for every style of heavy music and even a bit of blues despite its obvious heavy looks. The Floyd Rose pro adds to this guitar with fine tuners and the ability to divebomb insanely. Since i got this guitar all of my band members have got a Jackson each. this guitar is brilliant for beginners and pros. However, the sharp edges of the body easily chip and paint falls off quickly, perfect if you like a vintage look or a slight price to pay for this guitars insane looks, tone and likability.

  • The looks are only surpassed by the sound

As reviewed by Danny on 1/9/2010

I bought the one with the skull finish, and boy the picture here doesnt do it justice, it is a beauty in person. Once you find the right settings on your amp, you can make the guitar sound amazing. A lot of people say that the pick ups should be replaced, now i dont think so. The pick ups might sound as if they are bad but just adjust your amp's settings correctly and you can make it sound perfect, but thats your choice, you just gotta experiment. Dive Bombs are amazing, Whammy Bar is really nice on it and it doesnt untune the guitar at all, it stays tune for like ever. great guitar, and if ur used to the neck already, it'll even make u play better: it did for me. i totally recommend the guitar, and the skull finish doesnt change the soudn but trust me, it makes it look so beautiful and hot. 5 star guitar, its a metal machine, and even softer songs with fingerpicking or simple chord progressions sound great on it.

  • Very versatile guitar, worth every penny.

As reviewed by James Clark on 2/2/2011

Got this guitar as an early Christmas present and WOW! This thing is perfect for me. I mostly play metal but also often venture into rock, blues and some "acoustic"/finger-style stuff and this guitar handles it all. The SD Jazz neck pickup makes for clean, crisp solos when playing metal, rock and blues and makes for a great clean tones during finger-style pieces or clean sections in songs of the other genres. The JB makes a fantastic crunch for punchy rhythms in metal, rock and blues songs. I will say I was quite concerned about the lack of a tone knob/2nd volume knob. However, I can honestly say that it's no big deal. If you don't need the tone knob or independent volume knobs for each pickup and were considering a Jackson in this price range, GET THIS MOFO! You will not regret it!
