I have tried various NOS 6V6 tubes in my champs and super champs: RCA Silvertone, RCA, Sylvania, Tung Sol... Also many new production tubes: EH, Ruby, Tung Sol and the variation/selections of these from: TAD, GT, Mesa etc... The simple truth is that the JJ tubes sound better and are more consistent tube to tube with less noise than all of the tubes I have tried. I did find a single RCA Silvertobe Tube that was just magical but the other two of the same tube were no good even worse than the EH GT tubes I had. So I now whole heartedly recommend the JJ 6V6S tubes ( note JJ tubes of other kinds may not works well for you; for example I do like the Tung Sol new production 12AX7 tubes better than the JJ 12AX7 tubes). Also life and resilience has been very good with these tubes. Give these big bottles a try. They do have more headroom so that may not be your thing but worth a try in my book as it is the only 6V6 tube I now use.
My Fender Super Champ amp's power tubes did not last 15 hrs. before they were fried. If I were Fender, I would spend a few more bucks and put better tubes like these in the amp. The factory tubes become so hot they will put a blister on your finger with a touch. The new jj tubes are just very warm but get the job done. I don't know yet how long they will last but looking good so far. Back in the day tubes did not burn out in a matter of hours or months..it took years. I hope the jj's do the same. It was cheaper to buy these tubes to get the bad amp going than to pay shipping for warranty work. If you use a lower end tube amp I highly advise buying some extra tubes to keep the show going. Just looking at the jj's compared to the factory installed tubes will tell you there's much more beef to the jj's. Funny that a set of tubes for this little amp cost about 25% of what the whole amp cost but if you want it to work...get some good tubes.
