Overview

If a simple set-up is required and full bandwidth output at high levels is a must, then the PRX625 is most likely the optimum solution. With the same footprint as the PRX515M, the dual 15 in woofer design creates enough low frequency content to serve most live music or music playback situations.

When coupled with a PRX subwoofer (or multiple subwoofers) the system becomes a high volume sound reinforcement solution, perfect for regional tour companies and AV rental companies looking for a scalable, easy to employ audio solution. JBL recommends using the PRX618S-XLF in conjunction with the PRX625 as the extended low frequency capabilities of the subwoofer complement the frequency response of the PRX625.

For live music, recorded music playback and speech, the user has the option of tailoring the EQ, 'flat' for speech intelligibility and 'boost' for enhanced bass and crisp highs in recorded music playback. A microphone can be directly connected to the speaker input for quick on-the-fly PA applications.

The PRX625 is a self-powered, lightweight two- way loudspeaker system capable of delivering a very high level of performance over a broad bandwidth. The PRX625 consusts of two 380 mm (15 in) 265F-1 Differential Drive woofers, a 2408H-1, 37.5 mm (1.5 in) annular polymer diaphragm, neodymium compression driver mounted to a 90 by 50 horn, all driven by a multi-channel Crown Class-D power amplifier.

A proprietary DSP chip is at the core of a fully featured input section, providing user selectable system EQ, protection, input sensitivity selection, cross-over functionality, dynamic limiting and discrete component optimization.

The amplifier input panel offers XLR or 1„4 in jack compatibility and a sensitivity switch provides extra flexibility, making it possible to connect literally any sound source without using a mixer. Signal present and overload lights indicate the system status and assist in setting the optimum level, via the level control knob.

All PRX600 cabinets are built from a combination of 25 mm (on the top and bottom for added rigidity) and 18 mm, strong, lightweight poplar plywood made structurally sound with tongue and groove joints. All PRX600 Series cabinets are protected by JBL's tour proven DuraFlexTM finish. Grilles are made from dent- resistant 16 gauge steel and handles are made from lightweight, glass-filled nylon for added strength and durability. All M10 suspension points are constructed from 14 gauge steel and have been tested with a yield-strength of 1000 lbs. each.

good drivers bad amp

By

Comments about JBL PRX625 Dual 15" 2-Way Active Speaker System:

I bought these in 2011. They sounded great, until your playing longer than a couple of hours. They shut down and sometimes don't turn back on. I was lucky to live near JBL northridge, ca. I must of sent them there for about 5 amp replacements. drivers are excellent. amp is no good. gets extremely hot. so hot that i can't put my hand on the amp for more than 5 sec. Crown cant keep up with the jbl power demand. did alot of gigs worrying if they where going to do well or not. so i started to use a fan for each prx. this helped. but they would still fail. had a very bad experiance with them. I used to own the Jbl eon g2's before i got these. I never used to have any problems with those, and I ran those really hard with no problems. I got lucky to find the eon's again. no more prx for me.

Unreal For The Price!

Comments about JBL PRX625 Dual 15" 2-Way Active Speaker System:

These speaker cabinets are nothing short of amazing. I paired them up with the 18" 1000/W Sub Woofers and WOW! I work in a music Pro Shop, and I have heard all of the cabinets that would try and match up to these, and they don't even come close. When you pair them up with the subs you have 2500 watts per side running true stereo. If that doesn't satisfy you, I don't know what will. The other perk I have to mention is NO AMP RACK! These cabinets only weigh 67 lbs with the amp (Crown by the way) in the back. I haven't had any problems with over heating at all, and I ran these cabinets with no 3 octave E.Q. and had the board E.Q. with everything straight up at 12 o'clock and everything; (Vocals, Bass, Guitar, and drums) sounded amazing! The kick drums and bass will absolutely blow your mind! I could write on and on about these cabinets, but I will sum it all up with this... I bought the matching 6 series 15" monitors, and I have never heard a cleaner, more powerful PA for a band touring clubs, and I have been doing this for 30 years. This PA has it all, and enough head room to blow your mind!

WOW!!!!!!!!!

Comments about JBL PRX625 Dual 15" 2-Way Active Speaker System:

I was gonna buy the qsc kw line but boy 80 somethin pounds for their 3way...can't do that... at close to max jbl actually outshines the qsc...i'm a big fan of qsc but this was a surprise... to summarize my reasons, jbl did us mobile dj's a favor with a 60 pound 3way speaker.we are usually a 2 man crew so i weighed all the factors and it all worked out in jbl's favor. plus the 139 max spl means i never have to really push the speaker my event's are never more than 250 people. I'm using 2 jbl 635 and 2 qsc KW181 subs.(I'd have loved 2 horn loaded subs but they are too big and heavy and require more space/man power) The first review wrongly judges this speakers...i'd say it was user error.i've used the older prx500 line before and actually was impressed by the fact that the amp only gets warm not hot...so even without a fan...this is a non issue... use the short pole to have these over your 18" subs and you'll have a killer 4 way system

Good Price, Light Weight, Needs an EQ

By

Comments about JBL PRX625 Dual 15" 2-Way Active Speaker System:

I bought a pair of these because i had heard they were easy on the back and had plenty of boom for the buck. While this speaker has a decent quality and really is light weight, it has a few annoying features that you should know about. The amps don't seem to have a fan, and when the heat sink gets really hot, they turn off (happened when pushed past +4db). This speaker is really bright. I had to run them through an EQ with full kills on some of the highs, and HP x-over at 12k just to get them to a balanced volume. JBL, If your going to make a self powered speaker, at least put a parametric eq on the back so these things can be mobile, or at least put low cuts and high cuts like the QSC kw series... As for the lows, this thing has no shortage of bass. What kills me again is the lack of an EQ. If I want to bring these to a house party and use them as floor mains without bins, they do a pretty good job, but there's no way to eq them unless i bring my rack or a second mixer... And if I press the "Boost" button (which i would never recommend) people immediately notice that the highs are too bright, even with the cabinets sitting on the floor. Also, they are a little short, so the tweeter blasts anyone approaching 6 foot with excessive highs when they're on a single 15" or 18". If you can get them to an appropriate height, they really chug, hitting you right in the chest with driving lows and lots of punch. These are great for Techno and bass heavy Dance music, though I can't speak for bands. Downtempo sounds rather flat though, if that helps. Go with the QSC if your a band or into accurate acoustic reproduction at high volume. If your a club DJ on a budget, these are a decent option for the price point.
