The PRX618S 18" Portable Subwoofer System is a high performance self powered compact subwoofer system. The PRX618S is comprised of a 268G 460 mm (18") Differential Drive dual voice-coil and magnetic gap, neodymium woofer driven by a Crown Class-D power amplifier. The amplifier input panel offers stereo or mono line level inputs via balanced XLR connectors as well as a single channel speaker level input via a ¼ inch TS phone jack. Signal processing, crossover functionality and limiting for the system is integrated into the input section functionality. Overall subwoofer input sensitivity is controlled by a single easy grip knob and a simple switch enables polarity reversal for sub/satellite system optimization. Signal present and limit lights indicate performance status.
Compact and powerful, the PRX618S offers the performance of an 18" subwoofer in a package not much larger than a typical 15" sub. With a pole receptacle (that accepts a SS3-BK or SS3-BK24) on the top panel and integrated stereo pass-thru, with selectable HP filter, this is the perfect compliment to the PRX600 full-range systems. Configured with a PRX612M or PRX615M the result is a highly transportable, high performance subs/satellite system. The addition of a polarity reverse options further enables integration with any top cabinet.
All PRX600 cabinets are built from a combination of 1" (25mm) on the top and bottom for added rigidity, and ¾" (18mm), strong, light-weight poplar plywood made structurally sound with tongue and groove joints. All PRX600 Series cabinets are protected by JBL's tour proven DuraFlex finish. Grilles are made from dent-resistant 16 gauge steel and handles are made from light-weight glass-filled nylon for added strength and durability.
JBL is also proud that PRX600's have been certified "Green Edge" compliant by Harman Professional. They've reduced the weight and size from the PRX500 Series and is using only renewable materials in the packaging. JBL has not only lowered their Carbon Footprint, but the CF of any one who purchases them.
SPECIAL NOTE: JBL highly recommends that no more than 70 lbs of weight be placed on a speaker pole that is mounted to a PRX618S¨or PRX618S-XLF.

Bought 2 of these at a local store last week to use in tandem with our PRX718s. Right out of the box I could tell that it was a lesser quality speaker. The rear plate is very cheezy compaired to the older 718. During our show (rock band) one speaker totally died and other other one sounded so bad that I had to turn it off. I took them back and bought the 618XLF. Although I haven't tried the XLFs yet they look to be build simular to the older PRX718.
JBL is the best product out there for MID to High end PA gear. Do yourself a favor and go with all PRX. This will save you having to lug around amps, crossovers, EQs. I have 2 of the PRX618s subs, and 2 each of the JBL MRX speakers on top of each subwoofer. I wish I bought the PRX tops instead. Makes setup and breakdown so much easier. Still everything sounds great together.
I just finished a 24 hour gig for RELAY FOR LIFE, and used the system constantly. Live music, DJ music," and announcements galore. The speakers sounded excellent.
""YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!""
Easy to move (70lbs)", easy to set up, easy to link.
It's JBL, winning ....duh!!!
On the higher end of the powered subs," but I always agree....""YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!""
I originally went to GC to buy the JBL EON518s (as it's nice and portable and I want a powered, self contained unit) and ended up listening to the EON518s, JBL PRX618s, B-52 ACT-18X, Mackie HD1801, and a cheap Gemini. The PRX618 was by far the best sounding sub in the group, putting out solid SPL without fluttering or sounding boomy. The PRX sounds even better when coupled with a DriveRack PX, although the firmware in the PX does not have factory settings for the PRX (guess it's still too new). Overall, the PRX provides a lot of solid bass for most styles of music (it's a bit weak on the extreme lows; I wish they had the 618s-XLF in stock when I was there), and while pushing the weight limit for a portable sub, it's still mobile enough to lug around.
This JBL sub is perfect for any application. Mobile, install, and anything else in between. This Sub is light!! Thanks to the Cass D amp used. The 600 watts is plenty of power to drive an 18" speaker. This sound beuatiful with the PRX Wedge cabinets, or QSC K series. This help get the missing thump, and sub bass that the KSub lacks. This speaker is loud, and you feel it from all different areas when used at a venue. You can use this part of a speaker stack/array for live sound as well as DJing. Again, this sub is SUPER LIGHT compared to the other powered subs on the market right now. The design of the cabinet is perfect, you do not lose any freqeuncy from the back or sides, it is a front loaded cabinet, so you get perfect bass in every sort of genre you may be using. I recommend this sub for anyone who wants pure clean super tight sub-bass, definetley worth the money!!!
I purchased this recently and it sounds fantastic. after adjusting the gain and getting it perfect i am thoroughly happy with it. With dance music and hip hop it is perfect. Although it does not have the power to handle the super low frequencies of dub step it is perfect for about 90% of application.
