Though the 2-way 15" is the most recognizable form of portable PA loudspeakers, offering the perfect balance between size and performance, the PRX615M is an exception because it is smaller, powerful, versatile, and more lightweight than most of its peers.

The performance and asymmetrical design make the PRX615M a perfect choice for musicians, entertainers, and DJs when portability is key, or when hung by the suspension points, an exceptional light-duty installation speaker. All PRX600 Series speakers were designed to excel in sound reinforcement where challenging audio environments and loud volumes are the norm. For applications requiring full bandwidth sound reproduction, the PRX615M delivers the optimum balance. For live music, recorded music playback, and speech, the user has the option of tailoring the EQ, 'flat' for speech intelligibility, and 'boost' for enhanced bass and crisp highs in recorded music playback. A microphone can be directly connected to the speaker input for quick PA applications. Coupled with a PRX600 sub-woofer (sold separately) the system becomes an efficient, full-range sound system.

The PRX615M is comprised of a 380mm (15") 265F Differential Drive dual voice-coil and magnetic gap, neodymium woofer, a 2408H-1 37.5mm (1.5") annular polymer diaphragm, neodymium compression driver mounted to a 90 by 50 horn, all driven by 1000W (dual 500W) Crown Class-D power amplifier. A propriety DSP chip is at the core of a fully featured input section, providing user selectable system EQ, protection, input sensitivity selection, crossover functionality, dynamic limiting, and discrete component optimization.

All PRX600 cabinets are built from a combination of 25mm (on the top and bottom for added rigidity) and 18mm, strong, lightweight poplar plywood made structurally sound with tongue and groove joints. All PRX600 Series cabinets are protected by JBL's tour-proven DuraFlex finish. Grilles are made from dent-resistant 16-gauge steel and handles are made from lightweight glass-filled nylon for added strength and durability. All M10 suspension points are constructed from 14-gauge steel and have been tested with a yield-strength of 1000 pounds each.

The amplifier input panel offers XLR or 1/4" jack compatibility and a sensitivity switch provides extra flexibility, making it possible to connect literally any sound source without using a mixer. Signal present and overload lights indicate the system status and assist in setting the optimum level, via the level control knob.

PRX 615 is perfect

By Ken F.

from Branchburg, NJ

The JBL PRX 615M is the perfect speker for any mobile application, and installation for small to medium sized rooms. The people at JBL took everything that was kind of wrong with the PRX 500 Series, and fixed it for this series. First off, these are super light for a 15" speaker, thanks to class D Amp Technology. These speakers sound fantastic, bass is tight, and not sub-bass, but highs are fantastic alone. For a full range powered speakers this is top of the line. If you want or need sub bass, get the XLF version of the PRX 600 Subwoofer. These are fine for meium and small rooms, for bass, becasue it's punchy bass down to around 42 Hz, but get one or two subs for big rooms, paired with these, you will be set. I use these for DJing, and live sound for a band. They are the best powered speaker from JBL. Go listen to these compared to Mackie, QSC, and enayone else, you will not be dissapinted with these, well worth the money.

Brings out lots of detail!!

By DJ Kirk

from Newington CT

Recently upgraded to a pair of these from a B-52 Matrix 1000V2 and wow what a sonic difference!! brings out lots of information in the material I play. It didn't have the low end I was expecting, so I fixed that with a MRX518s and a XTI 1000. This is a perfect combo!! This is lightweight and attractive!!

bad for monitors

By jeff

from oklahoma

the angle of the monitor is so bad i have to put wood under them to raise them almost a foot high. when sitting flat, the aim almost at your knees. they also lack the clear midrange most jbl products dont have.

what they are.

By Will Edwards

from Dallas TX

These front of house/stage monitor speakers are what they are and no more. If you really truly need individual spectral band pronunciation get an array. These are generally for medium spaced venues and can be "stacked" approx every 50ft square (50 down and 50 across), depending on the outputs of your mixer. Although they are DSP powered D-class amplified, the wattage is respectable and the sound pressure level sufficient to deliver a pretty clean sound. The 625's would have more mid range because they are three way, but they would lose the distinct highs and lows that a 2-way speaker set provides. I've used many speakers and honestly I find JBL superior for PA applications, studio applications, and home applications Honestly if you need more speaker then this you need an array anyway. Start saving up!

I've been using two Mackie SRM 450's with JBL 518 EON subs and thought I had a good system but it just never sounded right. I bought two PRX615's and without even testing them, went to a gig that same night and had the BEST night I've ever had! These things are amazing! Well built, rock solid construction, and paired with JBL subs are awesome! I cant wait to DJ again, thank you JBL!

I love the limiters they have my back I tried the 715prx this one beats it i tryed the srx815p thats also a great speaker but for the weight all keep working with this one i guess this speaker has me spoiled. But it works for me and i tried qsck12 and evs.

Not bad for the price after some EQ

    By Nate Duerksen

    from Manhattan, KS

I bought these speakers to use at a Kansas State University campus ministry every week. They play in an auditorium with probably 800-1000 people and never break a sweat. We've got some EAW subs for the low end, so these are just for mains. These speakers have a little awkward spot right at 4K, so I had to drop that a couple dB. I boosted the 2.6K range a bit for vocal clarity. I think I dipped some of the 800Hz range a tad to reduce muddiness. If you're using these without subs, you're going to have to CRANK the low end EQ to get a good bass sound out of the front (keep your room acoustics in mind since that will also affect it). JBL stuck the port on the back of the speaker 'to keep it as compact as possible'. Stupid move IMO. Why would you ever want sound coming out of the back of your speaker? These speakers have a little bigger problems feeding back than the previous pair of ancient EV-something 12". I'm going to clog up the port on the back with a towel to see if that keeps sound from going out of the back end and helps with the feedback. Once you get these guys dialed in, they can sound pretty good. Other than those couple points, these are pretty darn good little speakers for the price and sound pretty good with a bit of EQing. 1000w 135dB peak self-powered for $900. It gets hard to beat that. However, if I were a legit pro audio guy with a beefy budget, I'd definitely opt for some SRX series with an amp over these, but that's almost twice the price. Basically, if you're on a budget, have an EQ rack, and know your EQing; these are pretty good speakers, but if you're a pro feller wanting the best out of everything, you might be better off saving your pennies for an SRX or VP series.

Sounds good - when it works

    By Nate Duerksen

    from Manhattan, KS

These speakers sound pretty good if you've got a sub under them. They have the ports shooting out backwards "to save space" - which is a rather dumb compromise. Anyways, with some subs under there, these speakers are nice and crisp with plenty of punch and power. On the negative side, I've had the internal Crown amp die on me twice in less than 2 years. Perhaps I just got a lemon, but having the amp die so often is completely unacceptable for a speaker that gets used probably 20-30% of its potential once a week. Next time, I may go for some QSC's or EV's. Crown used to be the best name in the business. I'm not sure what went wrong.
