The JBL PRX612M 12" 2-Way Active Stage Monitor is the most compact and versatile speaker in the PRX600 Series. It has been designed to deliver maximum performance for its weight and size as both a stage monitor and a front-of-house main PA. Two user selectable EQ settings are provided to optimize the system for either application.
With a dual socket pole mount, the PRX612M is a perfect match with a PRX618S subwoofer, offering a high performance self-powered sub/sat system.
The PRX615M is comprised of a 305 mm (12 in) 262F-1 Differential Drive® woofer, a 2408H-1, 37.5 mm (1.5 in) annular polymer diaphragm, neodymium compression driver mounted to a 90 by 50 horn, all driven by 1000 watt (dual 500 watt) Crown® Class-D digital power amplifier.
A proprietary DSP chip is at the core of a fully featured input section, providing user selectable system EQ, protection, input sensitivity selection, cross-over functionality, dynamic limiting and discrete component optimization.
The amplifier input panel offers XLR or 1„4 in jack compatibility and a sensitivity switch provides extra flexibility, making it possible to connect literally any sound source without using a mixer. Signal present and limiter lights indicate the system status and assist in setting the optimum level, via the level control knob.
All PRX600 cabinets are built from a combination of 25 mm (on the top and bottom for added rigidity) and 18 mm, strong, lightweight poplar plywood made structurally sound with tongue and groove joints.
All PRX600 Series cabinets are protected by JBL's tour proven DuraFlexTM finish. Grilles are made from dent-resistant 16 gauge steel and handles are made from lightweight, glass-filled nylon for added strength and durability. All M10 suspension points are constructed from 14 gauge steel and have been tested with a yield-strength of 1000 lbs. each.

I'm a keyboard player fortunate to work 65-75 gigs a year doing local bars, and some special public and private events doing dance rock covers locally. That's pretty hard on equipment, without the advantage of a label-sponsored keyboard tech to make sure things are always up to par. I've been blessed with ability to replace my equipment on a rolling schedule about every 3-4 years, before issues occur. Durability and dependability have always been my first priority; you get what you pay for. I recently purchased two PRX612M. One in the local GC store, because I valued the guy's time and input answering my questions; he has to eat too. The second one I ordered immediately after, online, to get a greatly reduced sales tax rate. I've been spoiled into using stereo floor monitors for onstage keyboard monitors (thank you, Greg Phillinganes!), running through a Mackie 1402,and then to FOH. Coming from passive cabs and power (Peavey PV12M abd QSC GX5, which lasted 3 yrs, and were still going strong), I wasn't sure what to expect....under live conditions. Store and home demo's are one thing. Live outdoors, is the ultimate test. FYI, I also bought a pair of OnStage RX4000 amp stands; one for each cabinet. The PRX612M fits nicely into the stand...vertically, which allows one or two to fit under my lowest keyboard, for tight-spaced stages. I usually prefer them in the typical horizontal monitor position. I've found the RS4000 not only protects them from damange, but also greatly reduces unwanted LF grounding. The sound quality, despite their light weight and compact construction is beyond expectations. The richness and clarity of tone, is akin to an upscale birchwood cabinet on a wooden floor stage with a medium crowd...and this was OUTDOORS on an open stage. Since I only use them as keyboard monitors, I'm only tapping 50% of cabinet power, each side, and my board is at 30% both channels, with channel gains at 50%. We're a faily loud group, onstage-sound-wise, despite having a killer FOH system. That said, I have more than ample headroom on these to use them conventionally behind me, or as a mini PA. These are not cheap, but since music is my second income, they are an investment. I may have to amend my policy....and keep them 2-3 years longer than I normallt would, because I can't imagine what could be better...at this price range. Just remember....you get what you pay for. Spend the extra moolah...work a few extra gigs....and make THIS investment.

These monitors need to be about 10 feet away to do any good. I was ready to buy these here at Musicians Friend, and happened to go to a club where the band was using them. They had them propped up to work! I talked with the sound guy and he said the band loves the way they sound, for for setting up they are a pain in the butt because of the propping they need.Looking for something that sounds as good as a JBL but is actually made to be a monitor.

I purchased 2 PRX612m in April 2013, and I have never been happier. I have received numerous compliments on the quality of the sound that these things put out. I plan on adding a sub or two to complete the system in the next month or so.
These monitors are excelent!!!! We have 3 of these one for myself bassist and each guitarist in my band "It Is What It Is" facebook.iiwiipr.com They are portable enough to carry around, deliver exquisite sound, very powerful, clear and full. HIGHLY Recommend them great investment!
We are a professional bluegrass band who play 70 to 100 shows a year inside and outside. This was an upgrade from the passive JBL 15" Eons. Wow!!!What a difference in clarity. Everyone in the audience came up after the shows and said how they could hear every word and every instrument with these new speakers. However, with the old passive Eons that we had before the sound was good but just a mix. These little light weight speakers can really do the job outside too. We even pump the upright bass through the system with no conflict to the vocals. Plenty of power for a concert in the park, but yet suttle enough for a show in a small log cabin. This new system can allow us to put everything in a car instead of a pick-up truck and still have three times more power and clarity.
One draw back is that the amplifier built into the back of the speakers gets hot and the covers can not be put on quickly until it cools for a few minutes. However, we work around this small problem when we have two or three shows in one day. I highly recommend this product and Musicans Friend.
As the other reviews note, these speakers sound great. Plenty of power and clarity. I've been using the PRX612M as my guitar amp for a little over a year now, and it does exactly what I want it to - which is to accurately reproduce the sound of my guitar processing pedal, loud and clear. It looks/sounds so good and weighs so little that last month I bought a PRX615M (essentially the same package but with a 15" speaker) to pair with it as a small-venue PA (along with a 12-channel Bheringer mixer). The first time I used them together for vocals it was amazing how much better it sounded than my old small-venue system (which was a Mackie 808 driving two JBL JRX100s and a Yamaha S115IV). The clarity and power was astonishing; it's actually noticeably less work to sing through these.
The biggest problem is the angle when using them as floor monitors; they do aim at your shins unless you can get about ten feet away from them. I fixed that (and probably voided my warrantee) by installing a heavy-duty door handle on the side to prop it up at a better angle... which also gives me a handle on the other side of the original handle. It's an easy fix that's been working fine for me for over a year.
The best feature (after the great sound and power) is how lightweight these things are. I've been roadying equipment for forty years now; these old bones sincerely appreciate how much easier it is to hoist these up onto speaker stands than the 80 lb QSCs in my large-venue system.
This is the third PRX612 monitor I have purchased and it now completes my JBL PA package to include 2 PRX615 and 2 PRX618S SUBS this PA gives our band the sound we were looking for. The price was a little high but is easily made up with the quality sound we are getting. I play bass in the three piece band and this PA helps us get the big sound that's hard to pull off with a three piece band thanks JBL and Musician's Friend
I'll make it short & sweet!! If you don't buy these you're an idiot!! I torture tested these against every other 12" powered speaker at a local store and it was no contest. Plus, at 34.5 lbs. I can easily lift them and have downsized to a station wagon!! No more loser cruiser mini-van and I save on gas and space!! No overheating like my old powered speakers and I don't even need a sub woofer on smaller gigs. Buy these and thank me later!!
I researched powered speakers for quite some time. After going to GC and listening to these I made my choice. (Thanks Matt/GC Briantree, MA) These speakers sound GREAT! When I got home and hooked them up, my 10 year old said "Wow dad they sound real good!". I've used these for crowds up to 150 people with with no sub and no problems. You will not be disapointed. Pros:Light weight, GREAT sound, very loud AND clear, competitive price. Look online and take advantage of GC's low price guarantee. Cons: None yet and none expected.
I bought this for our drummer who uses this speaker for our electric drum set. It projects better then we expected and saved the life of our electric drum set that we were going to trash cause we couldn't enough sound out of what we had. It has good bass and is very clear.
Bought 2 for a single DJ gig, but sound quality/quantity so good decided not to sell them. Thinking of integrating them into my hard-core listening room.
Enough, but not a lot.
Typical JBL high quality - both physical and aural.
Lots of "bang for the buck" as far as power, smoothness, audio accuracy/detail, and low weight. The total audio listening experience is Very Very Good.
Bought 2 of these new a couple weeks ago. Set up in 40' X 80' venue the day before a private party and played around for 4 hours learning what they could do. (Another fellow was bringing in his own mixer/DJ eqipment and CDs from Canada but wasn't shipping his speakers/amps) Used with a single 15" Behringer B1500D-PRO powered sub and a Behringer CX3400 SUPER-X PRO active crossover. Was pleasantly suprised at very smooth, high quality sound after little tweaking: All speaker gains= 0dB; Active X-over: everything below 110Hz to sub - all else to '612s. Testing done with laptop playing .wav files thru NUMARK DJ|iO USB-to-24bit/44KHz DAC. EQ= FLAT!. No harshness whatsoever. ALL of my EQ setup (benchmark) recordings sounded extremely good at all volume levels (with the least variability I have ever experienced). I worried a little that when the room was full it might not be enough to provide the SPL the DJ expected, but found out after the event (I had to be out of town that day) that many positive comments from the 100+ partygoers listening to an extremely wide variety of music were made, and the DJ was "shocked" at the room-filling quality sound from such a portable package. He said he would be buying a duplicate of my setup and selling his much larger (heavier) speaker/amp setup. And I was glad that with active cabinets with built-in limiting, there wasn't anything the DJ could do to cause heat or over-excursion damage to the drivers. Sweet!
(PS - I am experimenting with using this setup in my large "listening" room at home and so far am concerned at how well it compares with my $40K speakers. Although only having 1 full evening of listening time to devote so far, it's upsetting that this affordable equipment could even come close to the definition and clarity at low-to-medium volume levels, and still sould so good at SPL levels my expensive stuff can't even get within 10dB of!)
