The LSR305, part of JBL's 3 Series studio monitors, is a 5" powered studio monitor delivering professional performance at an affordable price points. 3 Series Powered Studio Monitors are first to incorporate JBL's exciting new technology, the Image Control Waveguide. In conjunction with 3 Series high-performance transducers and system components, the Image Control Waveguide lets you hear detail and depth in recordings as you've never heard before.

The LSR305's 5" long-throw woofer and its 1" damped woven composite Neodymium tweeter are designed from the ground up to reproduce the powerful transients and micro dynamics of your mix. These drivers deliver impressive deep bass and smooth high frequency response beyond the range of human hearing.

JBL's Patented Slip Stream low frequency port design works in concert with the woofer to produce deep bass response at all playback levels. The double-flared shape of the port is precisely engineered for greater low-frequency extension and reduced turbulence.

Big Power, Big Sound
3 Series efficient Class D Amplifiers provide abundant power to deliver the output and dynamic headroom needed for the most demanding production styles

Professional Balanced Inputs
Balanced XLR and 1/4" (6 mm) TRS inputs give you the options you need to connect your 3 Series to any signal source while maintaining professional signal quality.

Selectable Input Sensitivity
The -10 dB/+4 dB sensitivity switch ensures compatibility with a broad range of signal sources, allowing you to connect the 3 Series to high output professional gear without any danger of input overload.

LF Trim and HF Trim "TRIM" switches for both the Low and High Frequencies give you excellent control over the 3 Series sound in "your" room. Use these to fine-tune the amount of bass and treble you hear to compensate for room acoustics, program material and your personal taste.

JBL Professional Reliability
Prior to becoming a production-ready design, each 3 Series model is subjected to JBL's tough 100-hour power test, in which the speaker is required to play continually at full output for 100 hours without failure. This demanding test ensures your 3 Series speakers will deliver years of reliable performance.

JBL LSR Design - Your Music Needs a Point of Reference
While most manufacturers take only a single on axis measurement of the speaker's performance, this doesn't tell how it will sound in your room. JBL's LSR Linear Spatial Reference design criteria requires seventy-two measurements yielding more than 1,200 times more data, enabling JBL to engineer a speaker that "sounds right" in any working space. With LSR design, 3 Series Studio Monitors deliver superior accuracy regardless of the size and shape of your room, so your mixes "hit their mark" when heard on any playback system.

Just picked these babies up yesterday, and although I need to break them in, they sound nothing short of incredible. I listened to a whole bunch of monitors in different stores. I was blown away with the clarity of the high frequency, and the smoothness of the mid range. Lets face it.....we all know that the Low Frequency is always going to suffer with a 5 inch woofer. There is no way around it, and those are just the facts. I happened to have a JBL 2300 Sub already, and thought I should probably match the monitors with the sub. Well I am glad I did because you can legitimately pick out each instrument in a good mix......I believe thats what you want in a monitor. Every tone should be flat, which they are. I am EXTREMELY happy with these monitors. I picked the JBLs because of the amp set up. I thought it to be logical in that it has a 41W for the HF, and 41W for the LF. Seems like it is a good idea. If you dont have matching amps, wouldnt you think that dips in the lower wattage tweeter frequency would get lost somewhere?? I think so. Thanks for listening to my review, I hope it helps someone with the long process of trying to decide.....It was ROUGH for me! I didnt want to get stuck with regret. I will report back once i get about 30 hours on these things..... THANKS!

Great sound but terrible reliability.

Great imaging. Incredible price. Clear without aural fatigue. If JBL would correct the power supply issue experienced by so many, these speakers would receive top billing.

Comments about JBL LSR305 5" Powered Studio Monitor:

Second day I had them one the monitors failed to power on. Apparently a common problem with these. I'm not even gonna go into how they sound & all that because if you can't even rely on them to work then why would that even matter? I wish I had done more research beforehand but alas, on my way to return them. Don't know what I'll get in exchange yet but I know I'm done with JBL. Just something to consider, I had a cheap pair of M Audio AV40s for a couple years that never failed me ONCE. JBL failed me on DAY TWO. Garbage.

Comments about JBL LSR305 5" Powered Studio Monitor:

OK so I sifted through all the u tube videos and went around for awhile listening to a lot of my price range options. These are my third pair of near fields that I have owned. 'KRK' 'Mackie' an now these. I've got them in my home setup and at first I was a little disappointed. I did appreciate the review though. However two weeks in and they are starting to shine. Perhaps I might be adjusting to them as well.So for me it took almost a week before the sound to gel and sound as they do now. There very neutral sounding and flaws can easily be detected and corrected. I made a mix and then listened to it through the other monitor options I had and the mix shown through consistently enough to appreciate the 'JBL' process. They are good but not as good as the hype but well worth the money. T

Comments about JBL LSR305 5" Powered Studio Monitor:

This is the second pair of LSR305s I've purchased. The sound is immense for such a small box and the wave guide creates a superb soundstage and even dispersion. You can't possibly beat these for two-to-three times the money!

Comments about JBL LSR305 5" Powered Studio Monitor:

These speakers are really accurate. I have worked with Yamaha 8" in the last studio I recorded in and were blown away by those. But for my home studio setup I went with the JBL's and I couldn't be happier. It does take a few minutes to find the sweet spot, but other than that they are plug in and play speakers. They are fantastic at both low and high volumes. I would suggest testing them at low volumes and then going louder that way you can continue mixing with these accurately. These are better than the muddy KRK's so don't even second guess it. I shopped around a lot before choosing these and would recommend it to anyone who is recording or mixing at home.

Comments about JBL LSR305 5" Powered Studio Monitor:

Great sounding speakers, I give them 5 stars because they really deserve them. I have a pair of Adam A3x and they are just as good if not better as far as imaging goes.

BIG problem: got these yesterday, mixed for a few hours, and this morning one of the speakers won't turn on. Very common issue it seems with those, I have to send it back and bought another one, hoping that the new one won't have problems. It's a huge problem, doesn't help to have great sound when you can't turn them on.

5 stars for sound, but only when you can actually use them. Hope the next one will be reliable.

ALSO: there is a very audible hiss coming out of the tweeters, probably another electrical issue that has been reported by countless people. Please JBL, fix that!

Comments about JBL LSR305 5" Powered Studio Monitor:

These are great. But don't believe statements of them having broad dispersion. You can't have both broad dispersion and low reflections. I think the dispersion is intended to be more wide than tall, which make sense. But when you consider the tweeter is 'set back in a focusing housing', it's not going to disperse the way a surface/flat mounted tweeter will. (that would be my preference and would require a completely different tuning also). They have excellent sound on-axis. But the 'in the room sound' will be quite different on high end. This is actually normal and to be expected. But these are not best for 'casual listening', as they are focused and you must sit in the sweet spot. As to if the sweet spot is wider than some other monitors, perhaps, idk, I don't have that data. But I can say these are the closest to 'flat' you will find, by far, at this price, and perhaps in any speaker of this size. They are just a tiny bit (about 2db) 'tubby' around 250 hz, and perhaps also a tiny bit (about 2db) shy in some highs (I forget the approx freq I found). But these are very minor imperfects. Overall the sound is closer to flat than any other common brand I researched. It's common to want the focus to avoid reflections, but honestly I would prefer more dispersion anyway since I don't have them over a desk. I couldn't ask for a much better sound, but I would prefer a more hi-fi -like dispersion (tweeter). That preference is probably in a minority so it makes sense they made them this way.
