Overview

The JBL EON518S is an 18", direct-radiating, high performance powered compact subwoofer speaker system designed to extend low frequency performance of any EON system. The JBL subwoofer also offers the convenience of an integrated crossover and stereo loop-thru capability.

The EON518S is comprised of a 460 mm (18") Differential Drive woofer driven by a 500W Class-D digital amplifier. The amplifier input panel offers stereo or mono line level inputs via balanced XLR connectors as well as a single channel speaker level input via a 1/4 inch TS phone jack. Signal processing, crossover functionality and limiting for the system is integrated into the input section functionality.

Overall subwoofer input sensitivity is controlled by a single easy-grip knob and a simple switch enables polarity reversal for sub/satellite system optimization. I's signal present and limit lights indicate performance status and JBL provides an additional switch to kill the illuminated logo in theater applications.

The speaker enclosure has been engineered for maximum performance and absolute minimum size. Constructed of 18 mm plywood it is coated in JBL's rugged DuraFlex finish. It also features a full screen-backed steel grille designed into a rugged copolymer bezel for maximum component protection. For comfortable portability the EON518S subwoofer features 2 large ergonomic rubber grip handles.

My sister and I have a 6 piece band that, when idle, we will use our PA and DJ some weddings and parties to supplement our band income. We have always used JBL products and were using a pair of the EON G2 subs with our EON 15G2 mains, and were pretty happy with them. I wanted more bottom and more power. This new EON 518S has an 18 inch speaker and 500 watts of power and is surprisingly lightweight. We used it to DJ a party and the PA never sounded so good. Last week we ran the whole 6 piece band through it, and great results again. All the guys in band were ecstatic with the extra "Thump" We are getting ready to add a second one to the system. You need this sub for your system ! It will sound great and better than what you have now.

They don't suck

By FRED RELEFORD

from Lebanon KY

This thing will absolutely extend your low end range. There is no way to adjust the crossover though. It is what it is. I had a Harbinger sub with mostly the same ratings and it would beat one of these to death. I went with JBL for the name and quality of sound and my mains are EON 515XTs. My OCD wouldn't let me mix and match PA brands LOL. Since I am a mobile DJ a 65lbs sub made me smile. I still smile everytime I pick these up to move them. They do sound ok but I don't see 500 watts RMS coming out of one. I bought 2. I am neither happy nor unhappy with my purchase. I'm just kind of meh about them. I'm switching to EV as soon as money allows

Great Tone, Lightweight

By JOHN RANDOLPH

from Jackson, Michigan

I have been a musician for many years and my bandmates and I are getting older and we want to lighten the load. The JBL 518S fit the bill. Surprisingly lightweight but with BIG, BIG sound. Only one thing would make it better - a bit more power - perhaps 800 or 1,000 watts. A little more power should not add too much weight to the unit. If JBL would produce a more powerful unit I am sure that they would sell gazillions of them.

Ok EON Sub

By Victor Ruiz Saldivar

from Romeoville

Its ok to be a self powered sub but I really was expecting more from it, to be a powered and portable, I dont think there is anything better out there, but they need to improve all of the powered subs.

JBL Eon, perfect for any application

By KEN FIEDLER

from Winter Park, FL

I got this Sub about 5 months ago, and I use it about every weekend. This subwoofer is perfect for everything I have done! Everything from small weddings, to large format dances. I have two QSC K-12's for highs and mids, and use a 100 Hz HPF so all the mids and highs go to the QSC, and anything 100 Hz and below goes to the sub. My system has never sounded this great! I love using all powered, they weigh about the same as my older passive system, which I used to lug around (2) 50 pound amps to power it all up. If you are in the market for a nice warm, low end cabinet, look at this! I actually also did a comparison between the PRX618S, and there is NO DIFFERENCE!!! I love the cabinet, very lightweight, and portable. PROS to JBL!!!

Great Deal.

By Keith Murphy

from Cincinnati OH

Love these subs. Especially for the price. Not real big on the new JBL high packs. But i have these paired up with the Mackie SRM450 v2's.. its almost like they were made to go together. Throw in a dbx Drive Rack PX and your good to go. Sounds better than systems twice its size.

Great Buy

By Keith Murphy

from Cincinnati Ohio

I have had 2 of these for a year or so, paired with a set of Mackie SRM 450v2's They sound amazing together. Only thing i strongly suggest is put a Driverack PX between the mixer and the speakers as they can blow which i learned the hard way .. And good luck getting a replacement amp from JBL took me almost 2 months..

OH MY GOD THIS SUB IS AMAZING

By Dj FreaK

from Grand Prairie, Tx

i went out to go get the prx518s, but i didnt have enough money. so the guy at guitarcenter told me about the eon and i was open to hear it. they showed me one on clearance because of a small problem [it rattled at high volumes] but i took that out of consideration and i thought it was alright. the rattling of the sub just made it seam like it couldent hold up at high volumes. i bought a new one and it wouldent fit in my car. i had to call my friend to bring her suv and it would barley fit in the back of it! she brought it to my house and i was kind of skeptical because it was really light, and to me lightweight speaker = not built well. i got it home and hooked it up to my system on about 30% volume. that was a mistake [or a rather awesome discovery]. it sure went BOOM. my neighbors came over to my house to complain in the first 30 mins i had it home. im notorious for disturbing the peace in my neighborhood. they usually dont care. they said they can tolerate loud but this is ridiculous. i cant wait to try it out at a gig. this REALLY puts the bump in my system i needed. this sub is as big as the sound, without the weight. i love it. this is yet another one of jbl's creations that continue to amaze me. im going to pair this with some prx dual 15's. i couldent imagine how amazing that would sound. buy this sub!! you will NOT be let down!

Just right for the price

By DJ Resistor

from San Jose, CA

Added one of these to my setup a few months ago, and it's exactly what I wanted. Not too expensive, lightweight, hits low and loud. Perfect match for my pair of EON 510s - easy to connect, and sound great together. The backplate gets a little warm but nothing alarming if you've been around power amps. Taken it out twice to a small club to reinforce the barely-there house sound system, and shocked the bartender and other DJs with how much sound can come out of such a stealthy little portable setup. Wound up using my speakers for the dancefloor and the house system for backup. Highly recommended. I wish I could reasonably justify buying a second one!
