Overview

The JBL EON515 is a 15-inch, two-way, powered, portable speaker system. Capable of reproducing full bandwidth sound at high levels it offers the additional utility of a 3 channel built-in mixer. The EON515 speaker is comprised of a 15" Differential Drive woofer, a 1" neodymium high frequency compression driver coupled to a 100° H by 60° V waveguide. Both components are driven by the discrete channels of a 450 W Crown Class-D integrated power amplifier. The input section contains all crossover functions, protection, and audio mixer functionality.
The mixer offers XLR or 1/4-inch TRS phone jack compatibility. Selectable input sensitivities allow a broad range of devices to be properly matched. A unique mix/loop signal low router provides opportunities for daisy chaining or gigging with the built-in mixer only. Pre-engineered system EQs allow for matching the settings to the actual source material. In the "cut" position maximum level can be achieved for speech reproduction by reducing need to reinforce the lower frequencies. This is also a typical setting when using the PA speaker system as a floor monitor, reducing low frequency build-up that occurs naturally when placed on a floor. The "flat" setting is ideal for live music and the "boost" for reproducing low level pre-recorded music, delivering extra low and high frequency energy. The signal present and limit lights indicate performance status. JBL included an additional switch that kills the illuminated logo in theater applications.

I've been very happy using the JBL Eon G-2 15's for years now. I certainly was excited to get to use the entire line for 2008 Christmas and Corporate Events. I couldn't get over the light weight, they were so easy to mount on the pole and a few times guests at the parties, asked if I had additional speakers hidden from the public view. Looking forward to using them at all of my gigs in 2009.

I was so excited to get these speakers to replace my G2 15s 450 watt speakers and was so bummed how they operate. I called JBL tech support and when through the settings with him to no avail. He said - "oh ya, we went a different direction with the G3s and you need a very powerful mixer." So yes, you do need a very powerful mixer. I use a Newmark for DJing and it's no where near powerful enough. Unlike the G2s, with the G3s I can't just plug a computer into them in a pinch if I needed to. Very low sounding volume and pumping them up just makes them clip. My G2s I only need to put up to 1/3 volume and they fill a room. Why have powered speaker with a semi-mixer built in if you have to have a very high end mixer to lug around? If you have a very powerful mixer and you don't care about being able to use them without a mixer apparently you're good to go. JBL should have called them something else since they really aren't anything like the G2s.

Great on so many levels

By Mark Richards

from Oreange, Ca

I use these for video productions. I was video taping and streaming a national compatition for Yoga in the Grand Ballroom (20,000 sq ft) at the LAX Westin infront of 500 spectators. I had these babies set up for the live sound conected to wireless recivers fed from an eight channel digital recording sudio. They sounded great and so clear with voice only but the music was also just as clear. Set up and tear down is so easy too. Their light, clear and powerfull.

Nice Sound!

By DJ Sly

from Houston, Tx

Bought these about a year ago. Apart from the fact the speakers look good, most importantly they are very light and ideal for the mobile DJ. I complemented these with a pair of EONs 518 subs. To get the most out of these, you will need a good mixer otherwise it will not drive the speakers appropriately and output will not sound as it should. This offers more range than the older versions but if you do not drive them right you won't get the desired output. On there own (515s) they are nice but, with the 518s you can do decent gigs and hold your own.

Pump up the Volume

By DJ Bill E

from Windsor Ct

I purchased a pair of these speakers to replace my older Mackie 450's. Was looking to lighten the load. If you are doing small rooms they might be ok. For any kind of venue with 100+ people, these speakers do not cut it. I have a Rane Mp 44 mixer wide open and was very discouraged at the outcome. People suck up the sound. Standing behind them was trip also. They sounded like a train with box cars rumbling by. I had to keep checking out front to see if I was getting the same noise for the auidience. Save your money and get the PRX 515's. They are more money but twice the speaker. My older Mackies SM450's out performed the Eons, with power to spare.

Great Sounding Speakers!

By Erik Bohn

from Enola, PA

Before buying these speakers, I compared the JBL EON515s to several other brands side by side. The sound of the 515s was so warm and natural. Other brands in the same price range, through the same mixer with the same music, were either muddy or harsh. Since purchasing the EON 515s, I am overwhelmingly pleased. I use them for an acoustic duo, so two vocals, and two acoustic guitars running through a Tapco mixer. I have had no issues playing in small to medium sized bars and clubs with a pair of these. We played an outdoor event under a large tent with 500 people in attendance, and the EONs filled the tent nicely, and we could be heard well beyond the perimeter of the tent. (We even brought our old PA in case we needed extra coverage and did not need it.) I love the sound and portability of these speakers.

Poor Output, Clips Easily

By Kevin

from Durham, NC

Like my title says the speaker has poor output the G2 are better. Pros: Lightweight Power rating On board Mixer Cons: Clips Easily Problems with actually output Summary, Speaker is a great concept but the end result they did not perform like they are rated. Tried another pair of speakers with the same setup but someone elses equipment and they clipped easily and had the same problems with the actually output of the speakers. FYI. I tried the same setup with an Allen & Heath PA Mixer and got the correct amount of gain to the speaker but the old G2 performed better.

EON 515

By Perfecto Mangual

from Milwaukie, Oregon

I bought these speakers a few months back and I love them. Besides sounding great, they are very lightweight and simple to set up. I also bought the bags designed for them. They are a "must have" item for transport.

Turn up the volume!!!

By Hugo C. G.

from Long Beach, CA

Even though they claim a higher wattage, the JBL EON515 needs more power. My expectations were high and to my surprise the EON's didnt meet my expectations. The sound is good and crispy but it needs more power. I suggest trying out the EONS in the store and dont be scare to turn up the volume. I exchange the EON515's for a pair of JBL PRX's.
