Active enclosure with unprecedented power and bandwidth.

The PRX700 Series represents an evolutionary step in powered speaker design. Efficient amplifier power, rugged durability and enhanced versatility combine together in a self-powered loudspeaker designed from the ground up to perform in the real world of sound reinforcement. Inconvenient audio environments, high ambient noise levels and loud volumes are typical features of performing, and the PRX700 Series is adept at meeting all of these challenges. They are the first systems to use JBL's patented Differential Drive technology with ferrite drivers featuring high power, wide bandwidth and low distortion. Versatile, scalable, easy-to-transport and set up, the PRX700 Series use JBL's tour tested technology throughout for a lifetime of reliable performance you can trust.

The JBL PRX715 is a powered two-way enclosure with a 1500-watts of Class D power. The clarity of this enclosure relative to its volume is revolutionary. • JBL PRX 715 a huge improvement from PRX 615!

As reviewed by MARIO INGLES on 9/26/2013

Had a wedding gig this past weekend and I used them for the very first time and coming from using the PRX 615 Series, you can definitely can tell a big difference in sound, meaning, it was very loud and what amazed me was the vocals were sooo crystal clear, I used them along with the PRX 618XLF also the fan really helps, they were not warm at all and I heard many compliments on the sound, I definitely recommend these speakers. Another winner speakers from JBL.

  • A bit disappointing

As reviewed by DENNIS on 9/4/2014

When I heard these speakers at my local Guitar Center, I was very excited about getting my hands on a pair. I had some aging equipment and was needing to replace it with newer gear. One of the most disappointing parts of this experience was to learn that JBL is using consumer power ratings. It is obvious that their rating of 1500 watts is a "peak" rating and not RMS as many of us are used to. Still, I expected them to be the "in-your-face, balls-out, brutally impressive" type of speakers that one would expect from JBL. They are not. They are also rated at having the ability to achieve an SPL of 136db peak. I have yet to break out my decibel meter but I am sure that this is an exaggerated rating. What is truly disturbing about these numbers and the performance is that I twice called JBL tech support and the same rep told me that NEVER should I at any time feed the speakers power that allows the "peak" indicators to come on AT ALL! This goes against everything that I have ever been taught about pro audio. Most manufacturers say that occasional limiter blinking is OK as long as the light is not on constantly. This JBL tech rep did not agree with this philosophy and/or practice. This was alarming given that they have built-in limiters. This struck me as suspicious since JBL is a Harman subsidiary who also creates my favorite compressor, the DBX 166XL (I own two of them). DBX invented and perfected the "over-easy" technology that is now copied by many compressor manufacturers around the world. You see, these speakers contain built in limiters and I would have expected this type of technology to be built in to the electronics of this speaker but from what the JBL rep has told me, it is not. I have gone so far as using one of my DBX 166XLs in my signal chain and have the "over-easy" feature engaged as well as the limiter that I have set to put out a maximum of +2db as opposed to the industry standard +4db. Even still, the limiter light on the JBLs still blinks and I can never push these speakers the way that I would have expected for a JBL product. I see no way that (given what was said by the JBL tech rep) that these speakers can achieve the 136db rating that they boast. Still, I purchased a second pair as well because I do have to say that the sound is phenomenal, the setup is easy and they are lightweight for what they offer. The coating seems to be an extremely durable quality that will last a long time and take a lot of road abuse. Even further, I still purchased covers for all of them just because that's the kind of pro I am about my equipment. It was strange to learn that getting covers requires a special order since JBL themselves no longer manufactures covers. Gator makes them for other distributors. Even the Guitar Center reps recommended that I buy them on Amazon.com because of the pricing and the quicker delivery. One pair of these are adequate for small to medium sized "inside" gigs and venues but I would recommend a total of four for larger venues and crowds just to be able to move more air. I really wish that I could have given this product 5 stars but they just don't hit that mark given my experience with them (after about a dozen gigs with them). One last note: When I bought my second pair, one of them had a faulty fan that never came on. It ran hot all night but it made it through a 6 hour gig without blowing but it was a disappointing experience. As usual, Guitar Center came to the rescue to quickly and easily replace the malfunctioning unit. Let's just say that this is a very good product but JBL didn't quite hit the mark. I also am highly suspect of their power and max SPL ratings. Still, this product is of higher quality than the majority of their competitor's offerings.
