For those who prefer the simplicity of a self-powered subwoofer, there's the JBL JRX118SP 18" Compact Powered Subwoofer Cabinet. JBL started with the same woofer used in the non-powered JRX118S and added a specially designed amplifier with 500W (peak) and 300W (continuous) power output. The stereo crossover network is great for systems with EON or other powered satellite speakers. Peak limiter that protects the amplifier and speaker from clipping.
Wasn't sure which Sub to purchase, so I went ahead with the JBL. Just DJ'd a wedding and a house party and this thing puts out perfect Bass! Not too much to drown the party, but just the right amount. For the price you can't go wrong. Just be very cautious when shipping around town as the MDF cabinet is not as strong as the poly cab's.
i use one every week 2-3 times a week. i'm a dj and i bring it to mobile gigs and to some of the local bars and clubs. on my mobile gigs i use this with 2 jbl g2's and a monitor and i never needed more. it even sounded good alone in a big ballroom
