JBL speakers, Crown power—it doesn't get any better.

The JBL PRX535 is a self-powered, lightweight 3-way loudspeaker system capable of delivering a very high level of performance. The PRX535 is comprised of a 15" 265F Differential Drive woofer, a 6-1/2" 195H horn-loaded 90° by 50° mid-range, and a 2408H 1-1/2" annular polymer diaphragm, neodymium compression driver mounted to a 90° by 50° horn—all driven by a multichannel Crown International Class-D digital power amplifier. A propriety DSP chip is at the core of a fully featured input section, providing user selectable system EQ, protection, input sensitivity selection, cross-over functionality, dynamic limiting, and discrete component optimization. The enclosure is constructed of quality plywood and coated in JBL's rugged DuraFlex finish. Durable polypropylene end-caps add extra protection for the cabinet. An integrated polemount on the bottom endcap enables easy deployment. The CNC machined steel grille wraps around the sides of the enclosure so there are no protruding lips on the front of the box to create acoustical interference. The grille is also lined with an acoustically transparent foam to provide additional driver protection. The amplifier input panel offers XLR or 1/4" jack compatibility and a sensitivity switch provides extra flexibility, making it possible to connect literally any sound source without using a mixer. Signal present and overload lights indicate the system status and assist in setting the optimum level, via the level control knob.

  • The Perfect Mains for Our Trio

As reviewed by Bill Koepnick on 9/10/2009

Our 10-year-old PA system was showing its age, and it was time to move up. We visited the Atlanta GC store and spent a couple of hours comparing systems using a CD of live recordings of our music as reference. We actually came prepared to purchase a QSC system with a pair of K-12s and a single matching sub based on comments and reviews, but hearing them in the store changed our minds -- they certainly were loud and clear, but overly sibilant and edgy. It was a characteristic we couldn't dial out with EQ. Other QSCs were tried, but the 2-way systems just weren't giving us the warmth and even coverage across the audio spectrum we were looking for. Then we switched to the PRX535s and got exactly what we wanted -- a full-range 3-way cabinet that sounds like a great Hi-Fi speaker, only able to crank out 134dBs. They have plenty of solid low end to allow our bass player to play straight through the PA, and the drummer's V-Drums sound like a perfectly mic'd kit. No Sub needed. The female singer's vocals and guitar sound clean and natural with none of the harshness we heard in the other speakers. We play small clubs and bars -- maybe up to 200 people -- so the PRX pair have more than enough volume and punch for our needs. For our material -- acoustic/electric rock and jazz -- the sound is warm, full and accurate. At 74 lbs. the 535s are surprisingly light and easy to handle for their size (the comparable 3-way QSC HPR153i weighs 118 lbs. and none of us wanted to have to wrestle with a pair of those). Heavy rock, electronica, and others might prefer the loud and penetrating characteristics of systems like the QSCs (and I do believe they make quality gear), but for a clean, accurate, and un-hyped sound, the PRX535s are the best we have found.

  • JBL PRX535s with JBL PRX518s Subwoofers...It doesn't get better than this!

As reviewed by Rick Klein on 3/26/2011

I am a professional disc jockey of 27 years who specializes in playing at wedding receptions in the Chicago area. I have owned Bag End, Fender, E.A.W. and JBL EON speakers over the years. I have to tell you; hands down the PRX series is the best sounding speakers I have ever owned! They look great, easy to move and they have a very big sound. You can also stack the PRX535s on the PRX518s for a sound tower. The PRX535s make the vocals and horns come alive with 3-way speaker system. They have great bass on their own. When you couple a pair of PRX518 Subwoofers with them, it sounds like the performers are right there. I have had loads of complements on my sound system by guests at wedding that I have played at.

  • clarity and control

As reviewed by NDepth Entertainment on 4/11/2007

The 2 535s paired with 2 518s are all you will ever want for most venues. The sound quality is better than expected.I have yet to even ask anything from them because they perform so well without pushing them hard. Large outdoor parties may need more subs but thats it.
