'Tokyo Electric Instrument and Sound Company'-a.k.a. Teisco- was founded in 1946 by Hawaiian guitarist Atswo Kaneko and engineer Doryu Matsuda. They produced a large line of guitars, basses, and amplifiers, mostly consisting of copies of existing American and European instruments. By the mid '60's they were made available in the United States under such names as Teisco del ray, Silvertone, Jedson, Kent, Norma, Kingston, Kimberly, Lyle, Tulio, Duke, Heit Deluxe and World Teisco. Although lower level instruments at the time, their funky aesthetic and cool tones have turned many early models into today's collectables.
