The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe was originally released in 1969. It was basically a Standard Goldtop that was fitted with mini-humbuckers. The new pickups produced a nice, tight crunch that pleased many players of the period. The Who's Pete Townshend made use of them in several concerts and recordings. The guitar first appeared on the gibson price list in 1969 for $425 and proved to be a successful alternative to the full-sized humbucker equipped Les Pauls.
