Founded in 1946 by Lowell Kiesel, the L.C. Kiesel Company was officially renamed "Carvin" in '49 (Lowell combined the names of his sons, Carson and Gavin). Early instruments were made by Lowell Kiesel, but Carvin also sold rebranded guitars made by Harmony and Kay. In the 1960s Carvin built most guitars from mainly Hofner components, before returning to manufacturing their own instruments in the 1970s.
