The Jazzmaster was introduced in mid '58 in an attempt to enter the jazz market. It featured pickups specially designed to acheive a mellower tone and also has the distinction of being Fender's first guitar to make use of a rosewood fingerboard. While it failed to make an impact in the jazz market, it's unique tone, electronics and tremolo made it an instant hit with the emerging surf-guitar music of the '60's.
