I wanted a small acoustic electric guitar to plug in and play. I have a large dreadnought, an electric and a baritone ukulele. I play the bari uke all of the time because it fits in my arms so well (and the sound is so beautiful too). I'm a woman with a smallish stature and find my dreadnought pretty unwieldy to play. I wanted to get back to playing 6 strings! So I began my search thinking I should buy a 3/4 travel guitar but my eyes landed on the Fender Stratacoustic. I really liked the look of it but couldn't stand the sound or the fiberglass back and sides. I finally laid my eyes on the Blue Ibanez TCY10. I liked the look of it and it sounded better than the Stratacoustic and for the price I thought I should at least give it a try. After speaking with the guy at GC, I learned there were other colors available. I chose to have the white one delivered directly to me. It arrived and I find that the white one has sparkles in the paint, which I loved. But I also noticed that the black body binding is not actual body binding but painted on! Cheap looking, and it just looked bad! The body and sides were not lined up and put together well. I know it's made in China, but come on! It sounded alright but there was a ton of fret buzz so I took it to my luthier where they told me that the neck is so warped that a fret dressing would not even help this guitar. They deemed it unplayable. I took it back to GC and no more white ones were available but I didn't want black or blue either. I decided to try the next model up and exchanged the TCY10 for the TCY20. (Perhaps it would be put together better?) I had them mail me the Vintage Violin color (which was much more reddish than tan from what I gathered from the pictures on their website) and I was still not 100% satisfied with the sound, it was just not as warm as I would have liked. I know I shouldn't expect much from the little money I paid but I really loved the look and the size of the Talman and wanted to see if there were other models out there. So I began researching on the internet and that's when I heard about the TCM50 on a discussion board about the Piezo Pickup vs. the AP2 Magnetic Soundhole Pickup. I went back to GC and the guy I spoke to said the Magnetic pickup is definitely warmer than the Piezo. So I ordered it, crossed my fingers and got it last week. It sounded so much nicer and much warmer even with the stock Ibanez strings! I took it down to my luthier where he "wowed" at the look of the ash top. He lowered the action a bit by lowering just the nut and he put Martin SP Phosphor Bronze Light strings on it. It sounds absolutely beautiful!! He even said that it was a really nice guitar for the price I paid for it! Obviously it's not a large booming sound but I don't expect that from such a small body. It feels great in my arms and is much more easy to play than my large dreadnought. It's light to hold but not too light or cheap feeling like the TCY10. The TCM50 feels solid!!! Through the amp it sounds amazing, like a large acoustic. I highly recommend the Phosphor Bronze strings, it makes the guitar sound very professional, again like I paid a lot more money for it than I did. So if you can't decide between TCY20 or the TCM50, definitely get the Talman TCM50!

I bought this sight unseen,,,,pics of it looked cool. I had jacked with some other thin bodies but the price was too high, so i ordered the talman TCM50. I did like the magnetic pickup. I kept it from getting that "tin" sound. I wanted an acoustic that felt similar to and played like an electric,,,,,this guitar has not done that for me. I find it burdensome to play live due the feed back i cant seem to get rid of. The sound wasn't anything special when it didnt feedback. The price of this guitar is the only attraction. I'm no expert, but I think I'll cut bait with this guitar.

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCM50 Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Big time buzz on 5th string. I couldn't live with it and returned it. I also bought a TCY-10 and kept that one. A little better value, IMHO.

Also no tuner. TCY-10 has a wonderful tuner and costs $100 less. Not that much difference in tone between the pickups for $100. Sounds a little bit like a cigar box until you plug it in. Then it sends like my Martin.

But still the most comfortable, easy to play guitar I have ever held.

            Awesome guitar

            By Boyd

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCM50 Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First: I am a newbee, or at least to say I am a newbee again. Picking up music after years of not playing so starting over. I was looking for a good looking acoustic and got caught up in the electric versions. I decided on this one because I wanted the feel of an electric, sound of acoustic and pickups that are a bit more than a mic in the body. I have had it a couple of days, and grated I have not even gotten close to using to its full potential. But in the couple of days I am impressed with the sound and feel. Very nice and to me seems easy to play. The guys at my local GC helped me choose a nice fender amp for a hundred bucks, and had the perfect fitting case (didnt expect that) in stock. I did have to tune this at home, as all the strings were about a twist off of tune. The look is not as striking as in the picture, a bit more subdued imho, but a very sharp classic look. A complete inspection top to bottom and I found no flaws, no fret issues (some have said that the frets out of alignment happens, mine were perfect). Neck, tuners, everything was flawless. This has a bit of a chiming sound versus the booming sound you might get from a jumbo, and thats perfect for me. With the fender amp, its a great match. Thank you GC, you guys helped me well and took care of me. Customer forever...

            Very Nice,... BUT!

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCM50 Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

yes ,there is a big hairy BUT around the corner in my experience. I've owned this guitar for 2 years now, and this is a great sounding guitar, and the action on the neck is very good if you want an electric guitar feel with the acoustic sound. However, I've taken this to my local Guitar Center to have it to have a buzz on the 2nd (A) string in the lower neck fixed, but they can't seem to get the buzz out. :/ thought about contacting Ibanez but don't want to deal with the BS. Either way, I love the way this guitar feels when holding it and it is very versatile.

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCM50 Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I don't own this guitar YET, but i plan to purchase it from GC. I played one that had been tweaked with slightly lower action and i felt that i had NEVER played a better acoustic. Seagull used to be my favourite brand for acoustic, and for just straight up acoustic they still are; however, for acoustic-electric, Ibanez just wiped out the competition. It plays smooth with its thin, electric-like neck, and it is practically as thin as one compared to my Yamaha FG200. It looks absolutely beautiful. I now trust Ibanez for all my acoustic-electric needs.

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCM50 Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is an amazing little guitar. Unplugged, it has just enough volume to satisfy, yet I can play hard in my apartment late at night with no worries. The sound just seems to stop a few feet away instead of carrying. Plugged in to my amp ( Tech 21 Trademark30) I get excellent clean sounds that are much more "acoustic" than I ever expected-very nice. Cranked, I get some very unique and powerful rock & blues tones that can keep up with no shame or embarrassment. I've owned & played Ovations & other thin-body acoustic-elect. and this stands out as a clear champion. Playability is amazing. I constantly have to slow myself down to play my normal acoustic styl, because this neck just wants to be played, hard & fast. A great, fun, unique, affordable guitar.

I couldn't have designed a better guitar for leaving in your livingroom. Very playable, nice feel, and sound is decent (better in amp). I have more expensive guitars but this is the one I pick up and play most often. 5 stars for a livingroom guitar.
