Overview

The Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer is a reissue that's just like the original in so many ways. Same factory, same components, same housing, same famous seasick-green paint, and the same crankin' overdrive that made the original one of the all-time classic pedals. Guitar Player called it the best. Plug it in. Crank it up. You'll hear what all the fuss is about. Tone, drive, and level controls.

This pedal is one of the best overdrives you can get for under $100. Not only does it get the best blues tone out there, but it also works great as a boost and it is versitile enough for all types of music. Through my Fender tube amp, this pedal can make my Stratocaster sustain for days. The pedal is so easy to use and it is simple to find the sound that you want without having to mess with the knobs for a long time. The knobs are recessed too, so they don't get bumped around easily. This overdrive does everything I would want it to do, and it has not let me down yet. I strongly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a great sounding overdrive without spending a lot of cash

This pedal is not for everybody. It is famous amongst blues players, garage rockers, superchurch powergroups, and classic rock enthusiast. It would work for fans of late 70's/early 80's punk rockers, people who are into jam music, Misfits fans, and "light rockers". If you are into devil music, death metal, powerviolence, shock rock, cockmetal, late 90's pop-punk, or "emo", then I am afraid that you might have ahard time finding a place for this pedal on your board. I, personally, love this pedal and feel that it would give me years of use with it's versatility. I would buy it again if some butthole stole off the stage.
Simple as it should be.
This pedal is my new secret weapon. It can range from having the tiniest bit of bite for a "mean and clean" kind of sound, or it can have quite a bit of break up. It can also be used to push your (tube) amps preamp for more of a natural sound. The type of guitar/pickup you are using has a pretty big effect on the way this pedal sounds. For instance, when I plug in my SG, it has more breakup and sustain than my Tele. It really lets the overall tone of your guitar shine through. Poop guitar = poop screamer. The pedal is also very responsive to the tone knobs on your guitar. Between your guitar, your amp, the pedal, and your playing; you are bound to find a sound that you enjoy with this tube screamer.
Being a producer/engineer, all pedals are valuable to me. This pedal, however, seems to have a low frequency roll off around 100hz. It definitely changes the EQ curve of your quitar, boosting midrange frequencies - which may be why it sounds so cool when it's voicing the high notes of your guitar. This interesting effect, I feel, would deem it unsuitable for players looking for a "mesa in a box", or "Marshall in a box". I would say that if anything, this pedal sounds like an overdriven tube combo amp - old style, you know, the ones with just a volume knob.

Comments about Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

I've owned and used the same ts9 for about 15 years and it still sounds amazing. I love this thing! I use mine for a great rhythm tone, or added on top of another distortion pedal or dirty channel for extra strength during leads. You just can't go wrong with this thing!

Comments about Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

First of all this is the first effects pedal I've ever bought, so a couple of days after I bought it... I found out about the Fulltone OCD and then I saw all of these youtube comparisons and felt a little less optimistic about my new overdrive (on its way already), but when I plugged it, I was immediately blown away by the sound... No regrets at all

Comments about Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

I finally tried one. I have had at least a dozen dirt pedals. I do like this one. My only complaint is when you turn the drive to zero there is still some drive. The switch is nice and quiet. If you want more options on controls, volume and tone look at the Mesa Boogie Flux Drive. It is pretty much the same sided by side but you have more control from zero drive to full on metal. But it does cost more. The Ibanez has a bit different bite to it. I'll probably put both on my board.

Bought this at my local GC for like $59 (used) and thought I'd be returning in a week, like 6 months ago, however it has performed flawlessly since. Very versatile, with my LP or Strat. Blues to Metal you can find the tones you need. It's also a solid stomper, easily making it through some major gigs and throw downs.
          Great purchase.

I bought this to replace another brand's TS clone. I am using it mostly as a slightly dirty clean boost into a squeaky clean amp. Does the job.

Comments about Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

I Really like this pedal for my amp, its hard to know exactly what you will end up with when you buy a pedal because they will always sound different depending on what amp you are playing through. I have a Peavey 5150 2x12 combo. i generally run the TS with Very low gain into the dirty channel it adds a mid boost that to my ears gives it a nice warmth without over saturating the sound. Clean sounds good too with very low preamp and a cranked power section pretty much anyway you set the pedal up (i use in conjunction with compression pedal alot). The only thing i dont care for is the light is very hard to see unless its quite dark but if you play out live its usually going to be dark. If you have a very Mid heavy amp Like a Hot Rod DeVille i would look at different pedals but thats just my opinion

I run my TS9 in front of my dual rectifier 3rd channel for maximum saturation. This pedal significantly adds more mids and treble than the DOD 250. Each have their own purpose and I love them both.

Comments about Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

I was expecting a little more fidelity on this...maybe it's just me; I don't play on stage so maybe it would produce at performing levels. When you just jam with friends at lower decibels, I don't think it's worth having. The box though is very good and I like the larger switch a lot ! Most amps now, if you are not a professional, will have enough boost, or a boost setting --to make a fool of yourself with your friends.

Comments about Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Effects Pedal:

Been eying this pedal for a long time and it was worth the all the wait. So many great guitarist use this pedal and I can see why. Its not over complicated, only having three control nobs, but you can get a wide variety of tones out of this thing. On a clean channel you can get sounds from old school blues up to 70s/80s Rock. Added with the gain on your amp you can get a really clean distortion perfect for various metal tones, in my opinion. It's basically my new favorite on the pedal board.
