I have never been a guy to go out and buy a new insturment. I had bought an old Ibanez from a pawn shop and have been playing that bass for a while. On christmas I said I was going to buy a new bass. I went out and I didn't have much to spend. I played basses from epiphones to Fenders to Yamahas. I used minimal settings on the amp and compared each different bass. This bass was finominal. I have owned it now for 3 months and I am completly amazed with it. It's sound, it's playing, the action, everything is great. Good bass for the money.

I have had this bass for about two years now, and its falling to peices. The Strap Button ripped out, stripping the wood of the thread. Also the knobs are all scratchy and hardly do much, you will always have them turned up all the way. The 'Bass Boost' Broke, it doesn't work, turn it all the way up or down makes absolutely no difference, replace the battery, get the same results. The Bass was amazing, but it has gone downhill ever since i purchased it. The Pickups, are 2 hum bucking pickups with these six little painted dots. The paint is gone, and they are rusting. It looks terrible. The thing is easy to chip, shows all finger prints, and dust. The back pickups sound TERRIBLE!!!!!! they have extreme treble, you will only use the front ones. The bass also sounds terrible with a pick. Don't waste your money on this bass, it just DOES NOT last. I thought it was good too, but i wish some one would have told me this BEFORE i bought it.

An Honor to have

By laurence espinoza

from Somerville, NJ

I'm in a band and i needed to upgrade my bass. It was just a p-bass but i was looking for a more evolved sound. This little beauty just gave it all. It has a nice tone and you can make different sounds with the knobs. This was totally worth the money and good for beginners and intermediate players. I fell in love with this thing within the first note. I highly reccomend this to anyone who loves the deep sound of basses and wants a good one for them to last.

Best bass for under $400

By Tyler Pirc

from Cleveland, Ohio

Okay, I bought this bass as my first one over 4 years ago before i started high school. I bought it because i couldn't afford the highly-coveted fender jazz bass of my dreams and i like the color of it (i got the white with the black accents). I play in a band with two of my brothers and we play a lot of shows. This bass, though not a fender, performs great live. It is light-weight, and i love how the color just pops onstage. This bass has a great low end and very crisp highs, so it is really good for slap-style. I play in my school's jazz band and i slap the hell out of it. In my rock band though, i use a pick, and the sound can be really bright and cut through, or really low and growly, depending on how you dial in the tones. This bass sounds AMAZING with ampeg amps if you like a lot of middle-range in your eq, because the bass itself doesn't have a very good mid-range, but a good amp with boosted mids fixes that easily. I use DR steel high-beams to get a nice bright sound, and after setting it up, i have very low action with very little fret buzz. Honestly, i love fender products and i hope to buy one in the near future, but i will never get rid of this guitar. Though i am no victor wooten, i am not new to bass guitar and am very picky about my instruments, so if you can't afford that fender you are looking for, this is a really great budget bass and i am very happy that i bought it. Do yourself a favor and DON"T buy a Squier. they fall apart. With this bass, the knobs come loose every once in a while, but it is very easy to tighten them up because they have little allen-screws in them. I also forgot to mention that this bass stays in tune very well. Once again, you're not going to find a better bass guitar for under $400.

Wow

By Jake Tripp

from Rocky Mount, NC

I love this thing so much that I own 3 slightly customized versions of this sucker. This bass is perfect for finding or improving your sound. Unlike most metal bassists, I use a fat, punchy sound with very low treble, and I need a bass with the tone control to make this possible. If you want access to a variety of sounds, and a smooth comfortable playing bass, don't think twice...Go for this one.

Impressed

By noobassist

from Tuckerman, AR

I've only been playing bass for about 2 years, but after the first year with a $199 Dean starter kit, I figured it was time to upgrade. I had my heart set on a Standard P-Bass. So I shuffled on down to the local GC, plopped myself down on the first available bench, plugged in that beast of a P-Bass, and found myself . . . relatively disappointed. It just didn't have as much tonal control as I wanted. I played around with that P-Bass for the better part of an hour, and it just didn't feel right. So I started looking around, found this bass, and thought it was beautiful in it's simplicity. Started playing it and found that it is just downright comfortable to play. The thumb rests on the pickups are really nice, the stock strings are pretty nice. The Low/High adjusters are REALLY nice. So I brought that sucker home. Been about a year now, and I still love it, have had no major problems with it so far (The battery for the active electronics goes pretty fast if you leave it plugged in to the amp). The stock strings are good, but I like Ernie Ball Power Slinky's, got that nice punchy sound to them. And talk about versatility, this thing plays it all. I can go from Metallica to The Beatles with just a couple little adjustments and it sounds GREAT. If you want a bass that is built to last, and you don't have a huge budget, look no further.

The way of kicking and punching

By Nate

from Cedar Rapids, IA

I bought the SRX4EX1 from my area Guitar Center, but I don't see that model in this site. Therefore I'm writing my review under the SRX2EX1 page. They're similar enough. The SRX is fantastic and I was pining after one for months before I came by the $ for one. The 1st point in its favor is its comfort and speed. I feel that I can get to any fret in a flash with the thin neck. The other selling point is the tone. Most Ibanez Soundgears come with a bass boost knob that adds extra rumble. Plug it into a Gallien Krueger amp, and you'll get a thick and clean punch from your bass. Some differences between the 2EX1 and the 4EX1: The 4EX1 has a set neck and active pickups. The 2EX1 may be a little snappier in its upper range. Also, the 4EX1 has cosmetic differences such as a flat black finish, black hardware, and a stylin' slash mark at the 12th fret. I don't recommend the SRX line for slapping, but that may not be your style anyway. This bass is made for rawk and metal.

Great Value for Money!!!

By Emmit

from Ralegih, NC

I have been playing for about a year now, but have really been taken in with learning my favorite songs. I saved for like 2 years for my first bass, and it was worth it. I had a little problem with changing the battery, the plate got stuck and i had to pry it out, and the neck did not hold up at all when the weather changed, but on the good side, this bass is extremely versatile - low and growly but high enough to make regular use of all 24 frets. After working over the summer I am now looking to buy a second bass, a Rickenbacker 4001 if I can find a good one, so I can get those 60's and 70's era hard rock and proggy sounds, but I suspect I will keep coming back to this bass if a rick cant get the low notes I might need or if I need a Drop-D backup bass.
