Comments about Ibanez SR705 5-String Electric Bass:
I bought this bass in order to start playing 5-string. Coming from playing a cheap 4-string, a few things made this bass particularly appealing to me. First, the string spacing is slightly smaller than usual for a 5-string, which makes the neck easier to navigate with the left hand, though slap/right hand technique needs to be adjusted accordingly. The active eq is very nice and is capable of adding a significant amount of shape to the tone, making this a viable option for playing directly into a DI, should a gig need it. The Bartolini pickups are a significant addition to this model--it's worth it to get this model or another similar one (500 series or above) in order to get the pickups. The switchable mid-range frequency has also been mildly useful. The body is very thin and lightweight, but is well-balanced and does not cause neck dive. The tone is very punchy and naturally well-suited for hard rock or metal, though the EQ allows for enough variety to get lots of other sounds which satisfies my needs. Overall, I would buy this again if given the choice; Ibanez has made a great value of this bass.
