This one is identical to the SR505 but with a Poplar Burl top. The bolt-on neck joint on the Ibanez SR505PB 5-String Electric Bass Guitar allows superb access to the upper frets of its five-piece jatoba/bubinga neck. Only 4/5" thick at the first fret, the 34" scale neck provides more comfortable playing than standard 5-string necks.
Bartolini MK1 pickups and 3-band EQ deliver world-class tone, while the mahogany body and eye-catching Poplar Burl top provide naturally warm lows and sweet sustain. A rosewood fretboard offers a strong, bright sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain. Ultradurable Accu-Cast B25 bridge offers quick and easy string changes. Single-screw saddle height adjustment gives you better stability than standard double-screw designs.

Still a learning bassist have been playing for a year now and just upgraded from an Ibanez SR205 and wow. The bartolini mk1 pickups in this guitar are intense and very clear coming through an Orange CrushBXT100 amp. The overall fit and finish on this bass are top notch. Couldn't be happier with the guitar would recommend for anyone.
The beautiful Poplar Burl wood finalazed my decision to go with a 505 instead of a 605 or higher model. The two things I did not like (past tense)was the flat finish and a small amount of fret bite. The fret bite of course is easily handled with a file and delicate hand. You can probably pick one that has less or none by choosing bewteen particular instruments if more than one is available to choose from. A little Meguire's Ultimat Compound and it has a beautiful satin finish instead of that awful flat finish. I have an SR305 and loved that bass. This one surpassed it! access to the trussrod is very handy without having to deal with screws. I have mine set to .229 mm neck relief and 3.5 mm action height with no buzz. Tone controles with 2 mid set points produces more punch than I need. I think it can even be set to sound very similar to a Rick 4001 or my vintage '65 Precision bass. Watch out for overdriving your pre-amp though. If I play with the same settings as the 305 there is a very pronounced overdrive, so I had to push the -15db button, reduce the lows and mid lows on the amp to prevent overdriving the cabinet simulated output to the PA board. I am now afraid to pick up one of Ibanez's more expensive guitars. How much better can it get?
