Understand, I'm a guitarist, not a bassist. As far as I can tell, this thing is sweet. The Built in EQ and pickup mix make getting the tone your after as simple as can be. Playability is superb. This thing will slap out funk, beat out metal, and play some blues as good as or better than any other bass I've heard. Wonderful feel on the neck and the instrument as a whole is well balanced and fairly light. An absolute joy to play. If you're looking for a great sounding and feeling bass that looks sweet too, don't even hesitate. Get it.

The body and neck are great. The neck pickup has good sound. The bridge pickup is weak and sounds very thin. The EQ and boost do not allow for adjustment of the midrange sounds. This is a great bass for someone that needs a lower priced 5 string bass for customizing. Quality pickups and EQ are needed to make this bass perfect.

WOW...

By Joaquin

from Las Vegas, Nevada

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

THIS BASS IS TRULY ASTONISHING! I own another bass in the soundgear series, the Ibanez SR300 bass, which is a great bass too, but the SR405QM is pure awesomeness. If you have a chance to get it on your budget, then GET IT! You will NOT regret it. If you don't believe me, go to your nearest Guitar Center and check this bad boy out. It can play any type of music from Smooth Jazz to Heavy Metal, and has tone that will make the angels cry. GO GET IT NOW!

Sweet Bass

By CJ

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I had been eying this bass for a little while, and got it for christmas. It's only my second bass, and I have been playing for three years, but even I know how amazing this bass is. The finish is beautiful, and the EQ allow me to get any tone I want. The pickups handle the low sounds of the B string perfectly. Another great thing is how light the body is. If your looking for a high quality five string for a great price, look no further.

Amazing powerful bass!

By Jeremy

from Seattle, Washington

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I got this bass the other day and it is AMAZING! Plays well, looks beautiful, sounds perfect. The controls are amazing for switching tones without changing the amp settings. The only bad thing about this bass is that the Bass boost is so powerful that if I barely turn it up my 45 watt Behringer sounds like it'll explode! It's awesome! I'm getting a new amp soon, hopefully 200w or more because I play with my brother that has a 160w Line 6

Ibanez gets it right everytime!

By Gerald Miller

from Basstown, America

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

This bass surpassed my expectations, in just about every way possible. The neck is fantastic, slim quick, and not thickly lacquered like 95% of basses on the market. The pickups are actually great stock Ibanez pickups. This bass is an all around 10 hands down, and the finish is much better in person than in photos. If you are looking for a great bass at a good price, this is the way to go.

monsterous low end, and overall great bass!!!

By Hurstracing300

from Fairborn, Ohio

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

This bass is simply amazing. The low end i get out of it is ashtonishing. Active pickups bring this baby to life! For normal playing, I use the neck pickup to get that low end that I love, and for slapping and popping, I use the bridge pick up to get those crisp highs, and an amazing slap-pop sound. The thin neck makes playability a problem of the past, and the overall lightweight makes playing those long gigs a lot easier. I love this bass! I reccomend for anyone who is looking for a quallity versitile five string for a reasonable price.

had it for almost a year, love it

By jonathan

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

im a prog metal player and this bass does everything. i use a peavey 1x15 tnt combo amp and it makes the bass sound awesome. the treble/bass stacked knob gives great control to the tone. the only thing i would say is bad about this bass is what they call the "slap/finger" knob. i dont see why anyone would keep it on finger, it cuts out most of the bass frequencies. other than that this bass is perfect. GO BUY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW! This bass is incredeble.

By mitchell McIntsoh

from Reno Nevada

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

Just bought it yesterday looking for a intermediate bass. And this far exceeded any expectation. Just played for eh. 40 people? and i got like 15 complements on the finish. Its absolutely stunning in person. It plays beautifully. The low B has an amazing tone and it offers glossy highs. The 5 knobs make not getting a specific sound almost impossible! You can completely make your sound amazing with a volume tone Bass Treble and mid all on your guitar! Amazingly light. I played from 1 to 630 with an hour break in there no problem! Anyways. Get this if you want a bass and your done messing around. Best bass ive ever played (I honestly choose this beast over a fender jazz and its loads cheaper!) Only complaint is its gives a quite a bit of feedback depending on how your bass is Equalized. Amazing.

a dream come true

By Nick

from Oakley, CA

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I bought this bass in place of a yamaha 4-string what happened was that I really wanted to get a 5 or 6-string so I got this. Ever scince I joined my brother's band it never let me down, great low B and lots of highs. Overall the only problem is that the band I'm doesn't require its use but it blew Alex away the first time saw it. I hit the jackpot biznich...

Great bass, best for the price

By JOSHUA SENIC

from Greensboro, NC

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

The Ibanez SR405QM right around the middle of the Soundgear line. Its not at the bottom of the line, but isn't as appointed as the "top shelf" SR stuff. The 405 isn't loaded with Bartolini's and sweepable mids in the preamp. Even taking all of this into consideration, the SR405QM could EASILY be the "top shelf" bass of any other bass guitar producer. Mahogany body, GORGEOUS quilted maple top on body, 5-piece laminated maple/rosewood neck, rosewood fingerboard, 3-band preamp with USABLE centered frequencies for bass, mid, and treble... I think my favorite feature on this bass has got to be the radiused pickups. Yes, these are the "stock" Ibanez pups; hear me out on this one. First of all, the pups are dead quiet. No 60 cycle hum. These pickups sound good; really good! Because the pickups have a radiused case, the outer case matches the radius of the fingerboard. String action is setup based on the height from the fingerboard, and is therefore radiused. These pickups give very even string to string dynamics, so you don't lose any gain on the A or D string. Very, very cool feature; one that I never thought would be all that important before owning this bass. This bass absolutely rocks, and it is extremely versitile. I play this bass in a country band, but I've played studio sessions with this bass for rock, jazz, blues, R&B, country... The tone just fits. The 3-band preamp is powerful and versitile. String spacing is 16.5 mm at the bridge, which is pretty standard for 5-string basses. I have have big, thick fingers, and the spacing is comfortable for me. The neck feels amazing -- thin, fast, effortless, but strong. The 405 is lightweight, so if you have back problems, this may be a great option for you. It is well balanced when standing or sitting; no diving neck for me.

overall nice bass

By James

from denver colorado

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I was looking for a relatively inexpensive 5 string bass. This fit the bill for sound, weight and looks. My only criticism is I had to get frets sanded. They were eating away at my left hand. Otherwise, a really nice bass for the money. Nice balance and not too heavy.

Good for a beginner

By ESP user from now on

from Somewhere, NJ

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

When I first bought this a year ago i fell in love. The action was amazing, the finish is beautiful (mine is more red than brown liek the pictures), and the tone was perfect. Over time, this bass went downhill fast. Wires were falling out of place, sound cuts out, pots had an incredible amount of dust in them, knobs come lose fast, and the batteries get the life sucked out of them in no time. Ive had to get it fixed more times than my Ibanez starter bass. This bass is a good start for somebody just getting into 5 string basses, but dont expect it to last you very long.

Great Bass!

By Matt

from Eastchester, New York

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

Well I got this for Christmas, expecting to get a Thunderbird, I was so surprised! I thought the 5th string was going to be such a nuisance. It really isn't and this bass has a huge variety of sound and is the greatest thing I have played so far. The tones it can get are astonishing! Buy this now before people realize 500$ is not enough for this masterpiece.

Close, But not up to My Standards

By Eddie

from Fontana, CA

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

First Of All I Gotta Say That This Is In Fact A Pretty Good Sounding 5 String For A SoundGear. The Action Is Great And It Looks Amazing, but the EQ Just Didn't Do The Job (At Least For Me). It Has Great Low Frequency For Blues Or Reggae, But It Doesn't Really Pack Enough "Mids" To Let You Stand Out In Playing Rock Or Metal.
