Overview

For 25 years the SR has given bass players a modern alternative. Embraced by bassists over the decades, the iconic series continues to excite with its smooth, fast neck, lightweight body and perfectly matched electronics.

The SR405EQM is a handsome 5-string bass designed for the experienced player. The bass starts with an immaculately finished Mahogany body topped with gorgeous quilted maple. Other features include a sturdy 5-piece Maple/Rosewood SR5 neck, a Rosewood fretboard, and a B305 bridge. Cosmo Black hardware adds a hint of stealth.

At the heart of the SR405EQM's electronics are two PowerSpan Dual Coil pickups. Their stainless pole pieces offer higher output, clarity, and fullness than any in the SR405’s class. Accessed by the 3-way “Power Tap” switch, these proprietary pickups offer a choice of three tonal personalities: A rich humbucker sound, a pure single-coil sound, or an enhanced single coil sound— fattened by lows from the humbucker pickups. Add the ability to dial in precise tone preferences via the Ibanez Custom 3-band EQ, and the SR405EQM is a musical chameleon.

Comments about Ibanez SR405EQM Quilted Maple 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Great bass! I bought this one to replace my old SR885. It has the same sound gear by Ibanez feel, but with a faster neck then my old 885. I love the passive pickups with an active preamp. The knobs are super sensitive. It doesn't take a whole lot of tweaking to find my sound(s). The center tap switch is a great feature. The only down side is that it came with almost no neck relief, and after a few days the neck pulled back completely straight leaving the first few frets unplayable. Under an 1/8 turn looser (slight adjustments over the period of a week) on the truss rod brought it back to where it was when I bought it. So no biggie. I would not advise making truss rod adjustments unless you have experience doing such and if you know its really close already.

Comments about Ibanez SR405EQM Quilted Maple 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I am fairly new to playing the bass the right way. Years ago I played by ear and didn't really know anything about how to place your fingers on the fretboard correctly. I did too much stretching of the fingers. Now that I know more about how to play correctly I'm enjoying the process of playing the instrument. This bass is easy to play. It has excellent sound and multiple options for shaping the sound.
This bass would be an excellent choice for many different opportunities to play I just didn't rate that above because I have no experience at these options.

Comments about Ibanez SR405EQM Quilted Maple 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a great bass no doubt, BUT if you have never had experience setting a neck and the intonation on a guitar you should reconsider ordering online. The bass was delivered with the strings very lose (which is how you want it shipped) BUT the action was not set neither was the intonation. I had the hardest time trying to figure out how to set the action, no matter how high the strings were from the neck the third fret still had a lot of fret buzz on all 5 strings. Well turns out the shams under the neck were turned backwards, after setting this the right way and getting everything set, it's now a bass to be played at any venue, professional or just hobby. I bought this bass for my Dad and he loves it so if you want a good bass I highly recommend it, but I think I recommend buying it straight from the store so that the staff can set it for you (unless your really good with setting everything which isn't hard but it is aggravating

High Output and Sweet Mids make my basslines stand out.

Comments about Ibanez SR405EQM Quilted Maple 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I love this guitar. I just bought a Fender Jazz bass back in July and that growls like a motorcycle, this one has so much range in the tones so I am now switching to the Ibanez. The sound is incredible. I think I will step up the next one with the Bartolini pickups. My only beef is that The Output is super loud. I use it at around 40% with my pedal boards. This is a very loud bass. I love the mids on it.

Comments about Ibanez SR405EQM Quilted Maple 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is great. The best aspect is the different sounds you can get out of this bass. This is the first active bass I have really loved how it sounds. I can get a sound that comes across as passive or active.

It has really fantastic build quality and looks amazing.

The string spacing is tight compared to a traditional 4 string P. And the neck is thinner than a vintage instrument. I am glad this instrument is different. The neck size and string spacing works very well for me.
