I bought the transparent purple model of the SR405 in 2005 and I agree it's a great bass for the studio and certain live applications. My only one criticism is that a much better pickup/EQ such as EMG or Bartolini would kick it up notch.
I bought this bass after owning the Soungear 400. I like the neck size ( I can pull a four fret spread anywhere on the neck ) and the active pickups give the guitar great range. This guitar stays in tune and after three years of heavy playing has never given me an ounce of trouble. It's only real flaw is a five screw cover plate for access to the battery compartment. Some type of latch access would have been nice. I just feel like I'll strip a screw or lose one in never-never land but haven't yet. I'll probably upgrade to another Ibenez soon but this one will stay with me at gigs for a great back-up or tune down option.
