I did not go to GC to purchase a bass, I only went for drum hardware. But since I was there, I decided to look in the bass room. And from the moment you pick up this bass, you'll notice that the neck isn't extremely wide being a 5-str. You'll also notice the easy playing action and it's remarkable sound quality and adjustment! The controls do exactly what they're described to do with great clarity! The addition of a description plate for the controls is also a plus for the new bass player. During my 2nd visit in the same week to see this attractive piece of equipment, I decided to take advantage of the layaway plan, which allows me time to sneak this purchase in the house as a birthday present to myself.
I have to say that I am very happy. I have been playing on and off in bands for the past 25+ years and I must say that this bass is quite a catch for the money. It came perfectly set up and ready to play off the rack at the store. Pickups are well-balanced, which is an issue that I have commonly seen at this price point. EQ is very usable and flexible. Only issue here is there is a bit more noise than I would have liked when really pushing the EQ in the higher frequencies, but not a deal killer. Has a great even sound and if you tweak it just right, it will sound like a very expensive bass. Should work for just about every genre with a bit of EQ'ing. Great playability and light weight. It's pretty, but not showy. Really pretty basic. Maple neck seems to offer a little more "smoothness" and ease in playing. I am really enjoying it.
