If You're Serious About Bass

By Leo

from California

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

This is a great bass, I've had it for over four months now and I'm still as happy as the day I got it. With all the nobs on this baby you can find some nice tone for just about any style. I practice with my band Perdition and the bass cuts through perfectly, for once I can hear my tone complimenting the band. The bridge and neck are awesome, very quick and smooth. The strings are pretty close together, this made the jump from guitar to bass very easy and comfortable. The body on this bass is very slim and comfortable, if you've ever played an Ibanez Prestige, the body feels pretty much like a bass version of that. I had planned on changing the pickups right out of the box but I found these pickups to be extremely good for being stock, I love them. Something else I haven't seen mentioned is the magnets in the tone nobs that lock on 0 and 10, so they don't move around while you're playing too much. If you're serious about buying a solid, great bass, buy this.

Rippin

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I got this 5-string beaut bass guitar about a year ago and its held up to the torture i've layed upon it in excelence. Got real deep punchy notes. This baby growls. The neck is real tight making the strings real close together compared to other basses which, for me, is perfect because i have small hands allowing me to hit those notes anywhere on the bass with speed. This baby was sitting in a case for about a month and when pulled out, it wasn't hardly outa tune. Friggin Wild!!! So if ur looking for a killer bass at a great price. Go with this one. The only back drawl was waiting a month for the moon shadow color comming in, but it was well worth the wait

My first bump bass

By Brendan O'Dell

from Indianapolis Indiana

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I bought one of these way back in the day. It was my first bass with that bump that you need for slappin. I beat this instrument for several years, and it never once broke. I loved this bass so well, that when I upgraded, I bought another Ibanez. The 305 is still my backup, you wouldn't guess by the tone though, it sounds like any high end bass. I also highly recomend DR Lowrider strings, they give it a little extra sweetspot. This is the best bass available in this price range. Of any instrument on this site, this one, should cost more. I would recomend it to anyone starting out, in a band, or as a good, cheap, reliable backup for a pro.

sham WOW!

By dave williams

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

Ordered this around the begining of Feb.2010 at guitar center mayfield hts. ohio.(Thanks Donny Z,for putting up with me) I had looked at a schecter 5 and had made my mind up to get it with income tax return. On D-day, i happened to pick up an ibanez 5 and just could not believe the comfort and playability and over all feel. GC didnt have the moon shaddow in stock (i had seen it on the site) and they ordered it for me. the day it came in I also picked up an acoustic B20, which is more than enough for the living room musician in training. you guys were great at gc mayfield.5 stars to donny z as well as for the guitar, and amp.

Get it!!

By Maurice

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I started playng bass around 1970, and have owned quite afew. I currently own a vintage '65 precicion bass, a 5string squire and the sr305. My favorite now is the 305. I first found it while brownig GC to see if I could find a 5er at any price that I liked better than the Squire. When I picke up the SR305 it was all over. fisrt the neck feel then the weight. now after playing it for a few months the tone and playability has me hooked. I am still looking for anything that I may like better and have not seen or played one at any price that I would replace this one with. The only problem I have had is the bridge height kept lowering until I put a drop of Fingernail polish on each screw. Now it's perfect!

The best. Period.

By Brian

from Fairborn, OH

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I have owned two fender jazz five strings. One regular, and one deluxe w active eq. I also own Two Ibanez basses. The SR305, and the SR405QM. I think that Both Ibanez basses blow the two fenders out of the water. The fender Jazz just does not have that rich and full tone that the Ibanez SR basses have, especially in the low end department.( and, afterall, thats what playing bass is all about!) The secret to their amazing rich, full sound is the EXF pickups. The soapbar pickups are nice while playing live shows, because if the strings happen brush up against the pickup, I dont get that loud unwanted POP i would regularly get with say a traditional uncovered pickup. I did own another Ibanez bass (SRA 305) that came stock with EMG pickups, and it didnt have the rich tone i was looking for. If you want a rich, full, thick sounding bass, be sure to get any of the Ibanez SR basses, but MAKE SURE it has the EXF pickups! You will not be dissapointed! These basses are also very lightwieght and easy to play, because of their thin neck. Its a Perfect all around bass. you cant go wrong!

Still going Strong!!

By dave williams

from ashtabula ohio

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

It has been almost a year that I have owned this Ibanez 305. I have no regrets. The active electronics are easy on batteries, and offer more range options than I will ever use. It is light and comfortable on the shoulder. The radius of the neck is smooth and easily allows for full access of the neck. Out of the box, there were 2 frets that had some buzz, but with a cautious neck adjustment, and some saddle play, I was able to remedy this. The action is now super low, requiring minimal effort to hit the note, and with string spacing, grabbing chords, and octaves is almost effortless. Setting the intonation was average, and I was able to get it much closer than I have on guitars I have owned before. While I have drooled over basses that are known as being an industry standard, and can easily cost over a grand, if I lost this bass today, I would definately order another one.

A good 5-string for the price

By TheKrummsBassist

from dallas tx

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

i got this bass a year ago and when i first got it, it had a really bad rattle. so i put some thicker strings on it and raised the bridge and after that, it was sweet. i think one of the best parts about this bass is that it is crazy light. i own a jazz bass for when i play punk and eve with a thick comfortable strap, it starts to hurt after a while, but this thing, i could strap this thing with a shoelace and wear it for a year. the tone can go from punchy to nice and clean, to extreamly deep and powerful. overall, this bass should cost more, thge downfalls would be the rattle i had at first, and for some reason, the knobs are startoing ti screw up and not change anything. other than that, good bass.

you will not be disappointed...

By Brendan King

from Willoughby, OH

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

this bass is amazing. i got one for christmas this year. it has far more tone control than any other bass that i played in its price range. i can easily find any tone i want with the style sweeper EQ. its easy to play as well. this was my first 5 string bass and i was expecting to take a long time getting used to the extra string, but i was wrong. one week after purcahse and im playing it as easilyl as my old 4 string. i also got it for a great price. the only cons about it are that it will definitely need a good set up after purchase because the first frets on all 5 string buzz badly, at least on mine. the other con is that the D and G strings are noticibly quieter than the other when playing through an amp. besides that however, this bass is flawless. do not pass on it.

killer bass...

By BIGCHIEF08

from OK

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I've had this bass for the last 3 years, and it's by far the best bass I own. It's taken some beatings since i bought it, but it is still doin work on stage. Ibanez made this bass to be light weight and sturdy, and it lives up to those expectations. Being 6'7, the only problem I have with the bass, is its size. It's just too small for me. Especially with the neck length. But if you're wantin a bass that won't quit, then this one is right for you.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

This is an amazing bass. I got it for christmas, and played it right away. It feels amazing, the neck is nice and slim, for eazy reach of any note, and the hard ware is good too. It has great tone, and eazy playability. You can play anything on this baby. From metal to jazz even soft rock. It has amazing lows for the rock music, and for the softer stuff, the highs are great. The only complaint I have is the mids. They arent bad, but they could use some improvement. all and all get this bass and youll love it, especially for its price.

Great Bass

By Sean

from Grants Pass, OR

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

When I first played this bass, I was blown away by the tone I could get for its price. This is my first active bass, and I don't think I will ever go back to passive. The only bad thing I have to say is that the pickups have a lower output than most other actives unless the mids are scooped. However, all you have to do to fix that is crank up the volume! This bass is good for playing anything from contemporary worship at church to metallica at a gig. The lows and highs are great, but the highs can be overwhelming if you have an aggressive fingerstyle and boost the treble too much. Awesome slap tone as well. For pros, I would highly recommend going a step up to the SR535 with Bartolini pickups and gold hardware. Overall, this is a great intermediate level instrument (and it looks good too).

Decent Bass For Price

By Layne

from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass guitar from my local guitar center over a year ago during their July 4th sale. It was good for the price, felt great and played well. It is my first 5 string. The range in tone able to be produced by it is mildly wide. It is an active bass powered by a 9-volt, and going from a passive bass to that was a big change in tone and clarity. As time went by, I noticed more flaws and downsides begin to appear with the bass. First, the volume knob fell off and wouldn't reattach. I play a lot in drop C and D with my band, and I would have to heighten the bridge constantly because it would sink, affecting playability. Then as I listened to the bass without an amp, the frets would constantly buzz, even though the action was as high as it would go, which isn't that high. Letting a note sustain for about 5 seconds makes the strings buzz, and the thing is I'm using new strings, not the ones that come with it. Also, the tuning pegs sometimes untune themselves somewhat easily. Nor is this bass easy to slap on, so I wouldn't advice that people who like to slap or play funk get this bass. This bass isn't very bad for the price. It is a good bass for people who are wanting to get their first, or last, 5 string. It is more of a practice bass, and not a bass I would play live, which I have. I'm looking for a bass now to replace this one for live shows. I would advice to get a Schecter or ESP/LTD 5 string instead of this one. I've tried many of each and they blow this bass out of the water.
