Overview

The Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar features an exotic zebrawood top and a mahogany body that delivers a warm tone. With sleek top arch the S5EX1 is an instrument that feels luxurious and is highly playable. The 3-piece bolt-on maple neck has the fast Ibanez Wizard II neck profile and is dressed with 24 jumbo frets for increased expressiveness. The ZR Zero Resistance double locking ball bearing bridge offers smoother and stable tremolo action. Dual "zebra" Ibanez INF humbuckers have a versatile tonal array. Case sold separately.

Infinity humbucking pickups
The INF 1 black and cream 'Zebra' humbucker installed in the neck position has a ceramic magnet and is versatile and responsive with warm classic tone and added output. Infinity Single1 single-coil pickup in the middle position has an alnico magnet and is designed to work with the humbuckers in the split position. The IN2 black and cream 'Zebra' humbucking bridge pickup features an enhanced midrange output. Its Alnico-5 magnet allows for individual string clarity and excellent dynamics.

Zero Point tremolo system
The unique Zero Point system stabilizes the bridge and insures tuning stability by consistently returning the tremolo to the center point (or zero point). In addition to the usual tremolo springs, the Zero Point System features two additional springs, which insures the bridge's return to the center point. The Zero Point system adjustment can be quickly set by hand–there's no need for a hex wrench. The ZR tremolo uses a ball-bearing based system for precision and friction-free smooth action.

Excellent guitar

By Aurieg

from Oregon

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

I've had it for a few months now and so far I'm very pleased. This is my first ibanez guitar, and the built quality for the price is impressive. It has a good tuning stability, even after playing with the tremolo, sometimes however low E and A get out of tune but that's not a big deal. I got an amber model and finish is one of a kind. I didn't like the INF pickups much and had them replaced with Dimarzio Evolution, they provided the sound I was looking for and are more powerful. Guitar feels solid and well built, S-series body is extremely thin and smooth. Wizard II neck profile is fast and comfortable. Guitar is very versatile, with 3 pickups and a 5 way switch you can get a variete of great tones.

Great Feel

By TJ

from Houston

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

The feel of this guitar is great. As the other reviews mention it is Light, Smooth, Good Looking and Fast. My only draw back is the pickups. Everyone has different taste but if you are into heavy rock and metal these pickups are a bit too Mid-ish for me. They don't quite have the punch that I am looking for in rock/metal soloing (I do like the clean sound). Overall a good guitar for the money. But if you are into Metal you will may need a pickup upgrade. I drop it one star just for the bridge pickup (I would drop half a star if I could) NOTE: this is only based on preference.

Fantastic

By Chris

from Crown Point, IN

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

There isn't anything I dislike about this guitar. I recently received a small bonus and decided to make an impulse buy. I don't regret my decision one bit. The guitar has amazing tone to back up its beautiful appearence. The trem system in here is a huge step up from the floyd rose liscensed trem I have on my other guitar. This axe is very versitle. It sounds as clean and clear as a bell, even on the high frets, when played on a clean setting. It also has quite a punch when used with heavy gain and distortion. The neck is, simply put, one of the best I have played. This guitar is worth every penny.

The Best ever S-series....ever.

By BighornPT

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

This is my second review. And I can't help myself saying...This is the best ever That Ibanez and Guitar Center can ever conjure up.The color schemes is beyond comprehension and the finish is custom beauty intriging. This guitar plays like its worth thousands of dollars. And the sound of the pickups is just what I've been looking for.Its perfect on every pedals train I got. From distortion, metal, fuzz,EVH (phase or flanger),this guitar takes it and ask for more.I love my Fender amer.strat and my Les Paul Standard and SG.But they now take back stage. This guitar brings out "The Beast Within Me" attitude.Playability, versitility, sound, and most of all it featherweight its almost like playing on air.I can play for hours and don't get tired.Fellas...if you havent tried or played this guitar you are missing out...this guitar makes you wanna play and be inspired. Thanks Ibanez and Guitar Center.Peace,Love, and Rock & Roll.

Great Guitar

By Rocko

from texas

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

Hey guys, I'm a professional musician and studio tech.. Bought this guitar a few months ago because I wanted something versatile, playable, and not outrageously expensive. A lot of times its hard to hear just how an instrument will sound live or on a record when you are testing it out in the clamor of the store. (and a lot of times, the dudes at GC won't even let you turn up the amp loud enough to hear!!) So, buying a guitar based on how it felt in the store is always a bit of a risk.. I would just like to assure all of you who are indecisive about buying that this is a top notch guitar that it is worth the money. It bears amazing similarities to the sabre used by Shawn Lane (that alone should tell you enough). It has a remarkably versatile sound that is really easy to shape. Playability rocks too. Overall, an awesome instrument.

Amazing Guitar!!!

By Cayden

from Texas

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

I spent 4 hours looking for a new guitar at guitar center. I tested and played just about everything within a $$$ budget. This guitar stood out and amazed me. First i picked it and noticed how extremly light it is considering it is made from mahogany. Then i plugged it into an amp, and it took me on a wild ride. I the pick ups sounded crystal clear without the slightest bit of buzz. They can sound very distorted and heavy for hard rock and metal, then go to a light twang for a softer sound. The neck is amazing and very fast to play on. The die-cast double locking tuners keep a tune for several days of hard play. The ZR tremelo can take you down to deep dives and come right back up. And you can adjust the tightness of the tremelo on the back of the guitar to the way you perfer. Then there is how this guitar looks. I got the transperent grey and it is beautiful over the zebra wood. The neck inlays fit the guitar's style. Over all this guitar stands over its competitors like the schecter hellrasier, Gibson les paul, and the Fender Stratocaster. I highly recommend this guitar to everyone!

2nd review.....!

By Jacob

from Kent,wa

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

Who said, lightning doe'nt strike twice at the same place.Well I do.I took my Ibanez S5EX1 to my friends birthday party.Every one were all sit up to play everyone had there fender's,Les Paul,Schecter on hand,But mine tooks the cakes in looks, playability, versility, and sound.Even the girls were impress of the design that I had (amber).I also have the transparent gray at home. But I decided to take amber its more in the radical design. It got that prehistoric predator type attitude.I love both guitars. The reason I got both colors is I'am planning of changing the pickups to DeMarzzio.Just havent decide which design. My friends say the amber would be the best choice.well anyway.I am very happy.I having fun learning new techniques and styles and this guitar really has the blows and whistles to get me going to the next level of playing.Just like Herman LI of Dragon Force. Thanks GC and Ibanez.Peace,Love, and Rock on.

A Radical Color,Awesome guitar.

By Point Blank Rage

from Seattle,Wa

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

Yes,finally found the Ibanez guitar and the color design I've been dreaming. This is a nice alternative to the Ibanez Prestige. What I like about this new guitar is the tremelo,"no felt washer".I have the RG Prestige and I lost the felt washer and I had terrible time getting a new one. This guitar comes with all the blow and whistles without blowing a hole in your pocket.Custome feel, looks, sound etc. This guitar was made for us budget pinchers.I believe this is a limited run,so get one before they all run out.Get it.

pretty much amazing

By nolan's friend

from nolanville

Comments about Ibanez S5EX1 Electric Guitar:

this guitar is probably one of the thinnest guitars i've ever seen and or played. i got this with a the money i've been saving from my summer job and it was TOTALLY worth it. the neck on this guitar is the fastest neck i've ever played and incredibly smooth. this guitar is even fun just to walk around the house and play without it even plugged into anything. it has a great tonal quality and is very versital. the cleans on this guitar are my favorite part you can can a smooth clean, a twang clean, or a nice in between sound when you switch to the single coil by itself. i highly recomend this guitar. it's color scheme is also very unique and beautiful.
