Overview

This Ibanez S5470 Prestige is the electric guitar other metal-minded guitars will be judged against. 24 frets of wicked fast neck, ZR2 bridge with ZPS3 spring system, and an advanced tonal versatility give the S5470 guitar an edge over most guitars in its class.

Heavy mahogany tone without the heavy mahogany weight. Thin around the edges for comfort, fat around the pickups and bridge for tone. S Prestige model features HGD1 Hot Grinder neck humbucker pickup, ST1 Short Tracer mid single-coil pickup, and HGD2 Hot Grinder bridge humbucker pickup. The Hot Grinder humbuckers are hot, yet sharp enough to hear the pick bite the strings. The Short Tracer has a strong magnet that provides full output in low profile setting.

5-piece neck with Prestige finishing for increased playing comfort, Gotoh precision tuning machines and deluxe Prestige case. Made in Japan by Ibanez's best craftsmen.

The ZR2 (Zero Resistance) bridge with the ZPS3 spring system returns you to "zero" ” center point ” after each use of the tremolo arm, even in the case of string breakage! No more wondering if you're back in tune or worse, knowing you're not! One more way to provide more dive-bombing freedom with less hassle.

Just 1 word can describe this guitar, as the title suggests, amazing! The moment I opened the case (This guitar does come with a case, if you missed that in the description) I knew it was gonna suit my needs. I got the S5470 Satin Oil finish. This thing is sheer beauty. It's very light, not quite as light as I had expected but it's definitely lighter than my Zakk Wylde Epiphone Les Paul custom. The pickups sound great, best on a clean setting though. The tremolo STAYS IN TUNE. Don't let a lot of other tremolos fool you, this thing WILL stay in tune. I've played many hours on it already, the strings are still in tune from when I first tuned it. That's the great thing about this tremolo, it moves on ball bearings, not a knife edge, that gives it amazing tuning stability. The only downside is you don't get the "flutter" affect that a floyd rose original can give. This tremolo also features the zero point bar, this adds to the stability. If you break a string, it won't go out of tune. This makes it a little stiff on diving though but you'll get used to it. I would highly recommend this guitar if you have the money.

I've owned this guitar for just under a year. This is only the 3rd time I've had to intonate it and when I did so, stipped two of the screw holes out on the A and D positions.I'm quite experiencedin this with over 30 years of playing and know not to "warf" on things during set up. of course, it's under warranty and hope it's just a matter of a "bad egg" and will come back like new and I'll never have another problem like this again because I do in fact love the guitar. (Thus the good review) With the exception of the pickups being a little on the weak side and this unfortunate incident....I can't wait to get it back and get back to work!!!!!

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I upgraded to this from an S570. I am very pleased. There is a very noticeable difference in the playability and sound. Don't get me wrong, I was nearly as impressed with the s570 when I first got it, and consider it to be an excellent guitar. The neck on this guitar is even thinner, yet very firm and sturdy - not at all flimsy feeling. The knobs, trem, and electronics are all noticeably upgraded. The sound is incredible. The sustain is great, tones are great. The finish is gorgeous. It feels incredible to play and its light. I guess I'm kind of in love. Nothing disappointing, this thing has it all.

    Almost Perfect

    By Andy Soles

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

Recently purchased S5470 transparent black sunburst. Right out of the box awesome appearance, great custom hard case, nice tool set (all in one), great wood grain finish. Wizard HP neck is awesome (super, super thin) and just demands the need for speed. Solid body design is super thin, couldn't ask for more. Intonation was right on, right out of the box, after initial tuning, all 24-frets right on. Issue --> Strings have some sort of back residue on them?? It got all over my fingers (blck color), had to wash off with soap. This thin coating of black film was all over the strings, all the way up the neck. I'm in process of getting a new replacement set. I figure putting on a new set will be easier than returing the whole guitar. Everythingelse was super clean. Over-all, this realy is an awesone guitar.

    attention to detail

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I dont often write reviews, but I have had my S5470 for about 8 months now and I have no regrets. The finish is smooth and allows the grain to show through nicely. The neck is VERY nice and I find myself playing a lot, I cant put it down. The case is a little cheezy, the glue was squished out in some areas, but it does its job of protecting the guitar. The multi tool that is included is very handy, but the cheap plastic pouch that it came in was ripped at the top seam. The people that made the guitar did not make the case...an awesome job on the guitar! The case would get 2 stars. It stays in tune, easy to adjust intonation and action, and comfortable to play...Thank You Ibanez

this guitar is great i cant lie but theres so many guitars that are nice for half price.its truely is a stunning guitar with great playability but its just to darn expensive and not worth 1,799.99. ive p[layed for years and i love ibanez but id rather play my schecters and jacksons over this and there about a third to half the price (damien elite fr jackson dkmg custom].thias guitar is good but not worth spending all the money

    Awesome Design

    By Michael Wong

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

This locking tremolo system is the best I've ever seen. Other locking tremolo systems that use ball bearings like these such as Kahlers apparently have to be lubricated to function right, knife edges wear down faster, and titanium knife edges are more expensive. The parts of this locking tremolo system are positioned in a way that the strings are more equally leveled with the whole fretboard. Unlike how on most guitars I've used, the distance between the strings and the fretboard are way different at the bottom of the fretboard than at the top of the fretboard. The reason I only gave this 4 stars is because I think it's possible to incorporate this locking tremolo system on a cheaper guitar. I think there are cheaper pickups that sound just as good as these. What would be perfect is if Ibanez made a custom shop to pick all of the desired parts out.

    AWESOME GUITAR!

    By DYLAN FURR

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I've played guitar for 9 years in jazz, metal, rock, blues, etc. and this guitar can handle it all. The neck is super fast, the whole body is way comfortable for shows, gets a great tone with many pickups, is lightweight, and looks great. Every show I play someone asks about it or asks to try it out. Stays in tune very well for a floating bridge...like reallllly well. It has a very accurate feel to it and is super adjustable to suit any preferences. I love this thing and its my favorite of all 13 guitars I currently own. Highly reccomended. If you wanna hear the tone of it with some fat active emg pickups or see it in action, look up some of my tunes on facebook or youtube. Just type in Mirrored :)...sick guitar, I love it, and everyone who plays mine raves about its comfort and ease of playing.

    Best guitar!!!

    By Luis Torres

    from FL

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

Pretty close to perfect. Too pretty to handle the same way I handle my other guitars.
Tuning stability of the ZR2 trem is great even after heavy use. Too early to comment on the ZPS. The pickups have very little or no noise and sound great in all combinations. It is extremely confortable and playable. The case is very sturdy and nice. It is molded specifically for this guitar so that it fits snugly in it without floating around. Nice tool kit included. The saddle screws are offset so that they can be accessed without loosening the strings during intonation. Intonation tool is screwd to the bridge for quick access.
The finish was flawless. Knob adjustment feel is great. Dispite the thin body the guitar feels very solid and well built. The pickup selection switch is slightly noisy thru the amp while moving. Factory set action is just right for my taste but there is slight lower string buzzing at the upper frets which could require neck adjustment. Intonation was perfectly set at the factory.
    Great value.

    Team J Craft logo

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

ONLY thing I would change would be the middle single PU, maybe a Blue Velvet Dimarzio.
Stock one doesn't have much punch/output
People are freaking out on internet because their headstock isn't stamped "Team J Craft" no worries, I spoke with manager at Pennsylvania Ibanez plant and wrote to the Japan HQ . Both were more than happy to speak and one email response..
As long as it stamped with "Made in Japan" and has a serial # (that you can look up online @ Ibanez it is the real deal. The Team J Craft logo was partially phased out in 2010, instead using the that space for the KTS Titanium/CE logo .
I ordered mine driectly from the Pennsylvania plant and it doesn't have logo , just a heads up to the authenticity. Don't freak
    Bang for the buck, I aret a 9 on a 10 scale

    Team J-Craft quality guitar here!

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I bought the Red Viking version of this guitar in early 2011 and had Dimarzio EVOs installed. When it arrived and I opened the case it was like Christmas morning. It looks so awesome in person, just a beautiful instrument. The finish is perfect, the neck looks impeccable, just looking at it is satisfying. I'd never owned an S guitar before but I had played on the mid range models at guitar shops. If you're unfamiliar with them you should know they are SUPER light and really thin. I had been playing my old Les Paul Custom primarily before I got this guitar - when I strapped on the S5470 I could barely even feel it. The sustain and tone is no where near as good as my Les Paul, but I was expecting that based on how small the actual guitar is - not bad, just no great. The ZR2 bridge is pretty nice. It sets up super easy with the thumb wheel in the back and the intonation tool is pretty clever. The Zero Point System was kind of a gimmick. I removed it as it made the trem too stiff - didn't matter though the thing still wouldn't go out of tune. Can't comment on stock pickups but with the EVOs it really screamed - probably more than I wanted! The neck is awesome if you like thin, flat, and wide necks. I ended up selling mine because I realized I prefer fatter, more narrow necks. Personal preference. If they made this guitar with a more Strat like neck and 22 frets I'd buy it in a hearbeat. Definitely recommend.
